  1. If you still have brake lights and turn signals, it could be a bad headlight switch.
  2. It was still running when the impact with the tree caused the belt to jump. This made the pistons, which were still moving, hit the valves which had stopped moving.
  3. There may be a ground somewhere in the circuit. Try putting the multimeter on the continuity setting (or resistance if it does not have continuity) and check between the positive connection for the bulbs and the ground. If the positive has continuity/no resistance with the ground, there is a short somewhere. ***You might take a look at the wiring to the radar detector to see if there it is causing the problem***
  4. I bought a 91 awd legacy with 206k miles on it for $900. It ran fine (it did have a check engine light on for the evaporative system) until someone t-boned me and totaled it. Seems like a good deal, if it runs and drives good. I have never checked oil pressure, so I cannot help you there. I'd say if the light is off and it runs without excessive valve noise you are probably ok.
  5. You might try craigslist or a junk yard. I know that at some of the junk yards around here it is $20 for a rim with a tire on it.
  6. Oh, does that thing have mechanical fuel injection? Working on that was a nightmare for me. I was thinking the kind of fuel pressure regulator most electronic fuel injection has, the systems are pretty different. Please forgive my pointless rambling. Subarus do have a very bosch-like fuel injection, so the fuel pump might work.
  7. I think that the fuel pressure regulator allows fuel to flow back to the tank when there is too much fuel pressure. There should be a feed on the fuel rail from a fuel filter, and that is where the fuel should come in. Fuel pressure regulators normally make your car run really rich when they stop working. I tried the diagnose/replace parts thing for a while on an early 80's volvo, it would be much cheaper to have a mechanic figure out the problem. It is really amazing how much easier stuff with obd/obdII is to diagnose.
  8. In my 96 legacy they did a sniff test (and gas cap test), and in my wife's 98 accord they plugged into the obd-2 port. I don't know if that would tell them what motor you have or if their computer system would even know which motor your car was supposed to come with (2.2 v 2.5).
  9. You might think about using the all wheel drive setup from a civic wagovan, and maybe throwing an integra motor in it. I know that is not a subaru set up, but it might just be way less custom fabrication.
  10. Maybe a tar removal product, but make sure it is meant for use on cars. Try to stay away from laquer thinner or strong solvents that may take off your paint.
  11. Rangers seem to run forever. I had a 90 with around 100k miles and it ran and looked like new. My bro-in-law has a 94 with well over 200k and it still runs.
  12. I think that there was a factory recall for that happening in 96. I don't know what the fix would be, though.
  13. Is there any way that the water pump or thermostat housing could be leaking and the coolant could be running down there somehow? Those are the things that were distrubed while you did the t-belt, so they are the things that you should look at first.
  14. Make sure the wiring is all good to go before you replace any switches. An unplugged sensor or a broken wire is a cheap fix.
  15. 2. Sometimes cars that have smaller engines have to work really hard to maintain highway speed. This can increase your fuel consumption.

  17. Hey everyone! I recently got a newer Subaru. I used to have a 91 Legacy AWD 5spd wagon, but I got tboned on the way to work the Sunday after Thanksgiving. So finally this last weekend I got a 96 Legacy AWD wagon. Yay! Anyway, I have been reading stuff on this sight for a while, so I thought I might as well register. Later.
