  1. Some day! are Cv shafts hard to change?
  2. Its not a dual range. I looked. The motor is a ea71 and i think that the brat is a 1979-1981. Not too sure really but it has the same headlights that mine have. There is a 1979 brat out there with a ea71 that looks pretty good. But the guy giving me the stuff wants me to try this motor first. Its free so no compaints. Do you thing the motor will be ok internally?
  3. I found it!! To make a long story short i was driven my brat around friday and something started making a loud noise. Since the damn thing is already knockin i thought that it was just about to chuck that rod. So i figured what the hell, I jerked the motor out. It was very very simple.. Only took me about an hour and a half. Since i have a clue what Im doing i could probably do it in 45mins. Well come to find out some flat spring came apart on the pressure plate and was beating the crap out of the inside of the bell houlsing. but its still knocking. I pulled a motor out of another brat last night. Only concern is that it caught fire. lol. I dont think it got hot enough to do any damage to the block/crank/pistons. I will post some pics soon of whats going on. Oh and I have a EA71
  4. Thats awesome. I have a artic cat 400 4x4 and the tires are only rated for like 6 lbs of air pressure. do the tires you have hold up well? What psi are you running in them?
  5. Sweet82, Damn nice buggie. If you dont mind me asking what did it cost you to do all of that?
  6. Ok thanks, Man would you have any ideas of what kinda motor oil or something i could put in my motor to make it last a little longer/stop knocking? I put a 20w50 in it bc i thought it would help with the knocking and it did a little but when she gets good and hot it starts sounding worse. I started it yesterday and when shes good and cold the motor sound perfect. when the oil starts to get warm and seems to get thinner the knocking starts. But for the first 3 mins of running it, it sounds great, no strange noises. I also put some oil stabalizer call locus. Im just thinking if i could run something that would be a litte thicker when it gets warm the knocking wouldnt start. Any Ideas?
  7. Thanks, The NO is a part of the cast when the manufactor the block, the numbers are stamped. Maybe its just a serial number? So it should be possible to see the EA?? without taking anything off like the intake manifold?
  8. Is there any possible way to do this to a brat??? Would it be worth it?
  9. Hey Gents, I have been trying to figure out what motor I have in my brat. I did find some numbers by the disty where yall told me to look. This is what i found. NO 924781. Im not to sure about the NO part it was very hard to read but im positive about the numbers. Does this mean anything? Does this mean I have a EA81 since the last numbers are 81? Any info would be very helpful! Thanks, Kelly O.
  10. bigo1966 that thing is awesome!! Can you post a picture of the whole thing??
  11. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=95079 like these?? lol
  12. ok, what does it mean if it is off to the side?
  13. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=6081&d=1232587402 Heres one pic, i know its not very close up but it does show the top of the starter. Its right underneath the mount that goes from the firewall to the tranny. can you see it? its behind that red fuel line
  14. i dont mind sticking to a carb! I would rather not have to deal with all of the electronics. I like old fashion. lol. I still need to figure out if i have a EA81 or EA71.
  15. any brats ever fuel injected? if so what year?
  16. it was brought up before but is it a problem if the motor thats in it now has the starter on top? If i get a different motor with the strater in a different place everything else should bolt up right?
  17. Maybe sometime ill get the balls to just tear into it. i have never messed with a flat motor like this. Maybe i can find a motor and tranny with a dual speed at a wrecking yard. I know where there are 2 other brats i can steal parts off of. I know that one of them is a 1600cc and not sure what the other is, but the other one caught fire a long time ago. If the motor isnt stuck ill think about swaping it if its a 1800cc
  18. subystomper i dont want to sound completely retarded but what a EJ? I know its a motor but what kinda motor? what does it come out of?
  19. Bratman18 will everything bolt up? Do you know what all i would have to replace? I guess Im refering to cv axles. will they all fit into a different tranny? and the rear drive shaft? Tranny mounts? stuff like that?
  20. Alright I got some bad news! I took my brat down the road for the first time last night and I'm convinced that the motor is knocking!!! . I honeslty cant be mad because it was given to me but Im thinking before I throw a rod through a fender i would just park it and rebuild it?? It sounds like a main bearing knock instead of a rod knock. How hard are these little motors to break down and rebuild? I'm guessing I will have to split the case to replace main bearings? Does that make it hard to do? Has anyone have any experiance completely overhauling a EA81? Thanks Kelly O.
  21. Thought you were snowboarding! Can you do this to the front and rear?
