  1. Maybe so, there isnt anything protecting the lead pipes and oil pan. Theres no tellin, lol
  2. Not a drop! kinda surprising. Guess these little ol motors are tough! Does anyone sell skid plates for my Brat? Man the lead off pipes on the exhaust and the oil pan seems like they wouldnt take to much without bustin. should i start another thread for that question?
  3. On my 81 brat there is a tiny little valve on the hose that goes to the heater core. My brat has been sitting for 5 years I got it to half way run saturday. I was sittin in the seat just letting it run and noticed water started running all over my shoe. The only reason i noticed the valve is because I had replace that hose. Just an Idea. If ours are the same it would be worth taken a look before replacing the core. Note: on mine one end of the hose it about 1/2 and the other end is about 7/16. Dont destroy the hose because it tapered. Good luck Kelly
  4. Thanks McBrat, This Brat that I got was given to me by my inlaws. It has been sitting for about 5 years! You would not believe what would come out of a carb, fuel pump, gas tank and fuel line. Its unreal!! I went through the carb saturday and got it to bust off and half way run. (when going through this carb there is a little red ball that is a check valve on the acceleration pump. DONT LOSE IT. lol) The reason i was asking if they were interchangeable is, when i first start it the motor sounds ok, as it starts to warm up and the oil get thinner it starts sounding like its a little wore out. Are all of the flat motors like this? Im gonna change the oil and see if oil that isnt 5 years old helps.
  5. Hey Gents, The brat that i have been working on has a EA81 and its a 1981. A friend of mine has a 1979 and i believe that its a EA71. Does anyone know what size motors come in the 79 year models? Does it have to be a EA71? On the owners manuel it has 1600 serise on it. I guess my main question is if my motor went out (EA81) would everything fit so I could put the EA71 in it? Would everything major bolt up? Thanks
  6. Back up and running! Thanks Zap!
  7. Ok let me know it i got this right! I have a gen1 chassi and its hard to find lifts for because of the rear suspension? The only difference between a gen1 chass and a gen2 chassi is the rear suspension? Its easy to swap a gen1 rear suspension for a gen2 rear suspension? 1982 was the 1st gen2 chassi?? Please let me know if i have all of this stuff right? 4x4brat has been very cool with me and he has a gen1 lift kit! So im not completely out of luck. Also I have learned tons on this forum and would like to thank each and everyone of you that has replied.
  8. Ok one more question and i will leave all of yall alone. If i was to go ahead and do the 6 lug conversion and put 15" wheels on my 1981 Gen1 Brat, what would be the biggest tire i could put on there without it rubbing too bad? I know its probably a low profile tire but whats the biggest without any kind of lift. I would just like to know bc i dont want to start buying tires just to see if they will rub or not. Is it even be worth converting to 6 lug if i dont lift it? There are no tires that i can find that are mud grip in size 13. If i could i never would do the conversion. (guess there was more than one question sry) Thanks Kelly O.
  9. Bill, Im just looking to gain a little more ground clearance by putting bigger tires. I need gain some space for a bigger tire. (im not talking huge tires) What would you suggest lift wise? Body or sup.? Another question, have you ever done the 6 lug converstion? Im a machinist and it doenst seem to hard to do. what do you think about it. kelly O
  10. Bill Thanks, Honestly im a chey man and this subaru stuff was confusing the hell out of me. I sure do like this little brat, The only thing that sucks is that its so low to the ground. Bill do you know if i found a 4" lift would i have to change any cv axles? Kelly O
  11. I know I have a 1.8 liter, (1800cc) size motor. I can find lift kits for EA81. Does that mean it will fit my Brat? It does have the 4 head lights. Another random question, Does the size of the motor have anything to do with a lift kit? Someone said i have a gen 1 chass and its going to be hard to find a kit. but also was said if i have 4 head lights i have a ea81 and i can find the kits for that. Should i not pay attition to the motor size when im looking for lift kit. Should i just make sure that the lift is for a gen 1 chass.? Thanks again for all the help.
  12. Why do they call it? EA??. Im not sure what ea means but i see alot of people calling it that
