  1. Im not sure of this is the right forum for this but... As i' m driving around (wasting time) at work i passed a house with a brat sitting in the back yard drive way. I circled the block to have another look. Yep its what i thought i saw. The tag says august of 2006. I pulled around front and knocked on the door. Turns out the guy that owns it was the janitor of my highschool. He said the car doesnt start because it has a melted plug to the ecu.(?) I asked him how much he wanted. He never would give ne a price. He says he wants to fix it. Uea right. I asked him several times for a price. He finally ended up telling me thay if he sold it i was fourth in line. I'll probably end up dropping by a few more times just incase. Lol. It looks like a good ride. No rust, has the jump seats and everything that goes with them. Its a manual trans with four wheel drive. Interior is good. Needless to say i want this car...
  2. Alright so i have a 1981 dl 1.8 4 speed manual 4x4. The interior is to say the least ugly. I have done some searching on interior options. Didnt find to much. I did read on how to dye the carpets. Really what i would like to know is what seats would be the best choice. Id like to just replace the front and rear seats. Color isnt a big concern. Any ideas on what would or wouldnt fit?
  3. So the graphite intake gaskets are what i want
  4. For some reason i cant multiquote. Anyway great info guys. Where does everyone suggest for oem gaskets?
  5. rdweninger, i forgot to ask. Is there a website you use to order parts?
  6. Ha! The stick was a temporary part. I was cleaning stuff out of the back. Came with four extra tires on the stock wheels. It was on the back.
  7. I figured id throw in a few pics. I havent taken pics of the inside yet.
  8. I had the intake gasket problem on my loyale. The loyale didnt put out as much smoke thru the exhuast as the dl does. I guess ill do the intake gaskets and see what happens. Anyone know a round about price on the oem intake gaskets?
  9. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=2758484&cc=1267927 What does everyone think about these?
  10. I popped the cap before the car warmed up. When i got it off it gurgled out till i couldnt see any water. It had the steam the entire time. The car ran for about 20 minutes and the needle on the gauge was about a quarter the way up the gauge. The radiator had the smell of gas. Like someone pourd gas in it. Ill have to fill it with coolant and do the taste test. Thanks guys
  11. So i bought an 81 hatch ea81 4 speed manual 4x4 with 139000 miles yesterday. I drove it an hour home no problems. Today i go to fire it up and is smokes a little from the exhaust. I popped the radiator cap. Its gurgling water. Pretty bad. Also smoking and smells like fuel. Theres no water oil mixing. The car never over heats. The plugs are dry and clean. Also the rubber tube that comes from the passenger side head into the air cleaner is sputtering water and steam. My guess is head gaskets. Any ideas?? Also the car has sat for a year and a half before i bought it. Put a new battery and fresh fuel and it started right up.
  12. Welp goin to look at the car this evening
  13. Once again.... emails stopped being answered. Sooo frustrating:mad:
  14. Ill make it easy http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_EA_engine
  15. I forgot to say that search can be done on wikipedia
  16. You can look up "subaru ea engines" and it will give you everything you want to know.
  17. GD what do you think of an ea82 intake and weber carb on an ea81 engine? I read on here that the ea82 intake had a bigger opening at the bottom of the carb allowing more air.
  18. I saw a write up on here about it and i was a little curious. Im glad you read this GD. Seems like you are the "go to guy" about alot of things:grin:
  19. So i was doing some reading on the ea81 to ea82 engine swap and it really doesnt seem like its worth it on the carbed engine. Eleven horsepower gain and 7 ft-lb of torque seems kinda silly or is it? The below specifications are from wikipedia. Ea82 Specifications Displacement: 1781 cc Bore: 92 mm Stroke: 67 mm Compression Ratio: 8.7:1 or 9.0:1 SPFI According to Subaru Factory Service manuals: 9.0:1 "carb" 9.5:1 SPFI Valvetrain: SOHC Horsepower: Carb - 84 bhp (63 kW; 85 PS) at 5,200 rpm SPFI - 90 bhp (67 kW; 91 PS) at 5,600 rpm MPFI - 97 bhp (72 kW; 98 PS) at 5,200 rpm Torque: Carb - 101 lb·ft (137 N·m) at 3,200 rpm SPFI - 101 lb·ft (137 N·m) at 3,200 rpm MPFI - 103 lb·ft (140 N·m) at 3,200 rpm Ea81 Specifications Displacement: 1,781 cc Bore: 92 mm Stroke: 67 mm Compression Ratio: 8.7:1 Valvetrain: OHV Pushrod Horsepower: 73 bhp (54 kW; 74 PS) at 4,800 rpm Torque: 94 lb·ft (127 N·m) at 2,400 rpm
  20. Take a piece of teflon tape and drop some gas on it and let it set a bit and let me know what happens. Im not sayin it wont work. I just wouldnt trust it. Heck ive even used it for a variety of things myself:)
