Thats a hard call. The seals didn't get replaced when the timing belt was? I don't know what they get for labor down there. Off the top of my head rack would cost between $150 to $200 and a set of axles (I've always been told its best to replace in pairs) thats $150 more a couple of ball joints $40 plus labor. If the car is as clean as you say and theres no other Major problems I would go for it.

I had my timing belt, tensioner, idlers, water pump, front seal and cam seal changed on Monday. (97 leg wagon 2.2 152k) Yesterday on my way home from my parts car my cel came on. I went to Autozone and had the code checked. It was the almighty PO420. I've been searching the message boards and found lots of stuff on this code. On one of the boards I read oil or coolant leak. Is there anyway this code is related to my timing belt swap?? It seams to be running fine and I've checked all the vacuum hoses a couple of times. No major leaks anywhere. Does the old disconnect you battery and run the system dead clear the code on a sub? I've never had to do it on an ODBII.

I got this email from a lady I sold parts to asking me to help solve her dilemma. how about a MAF sensor? and~ the subaru i bought friday ran fine home to lakes region from manchester. next day, started shifting wrong~(auto) and check engine light on. well, no codes showing for O2 sensors...my mechanic is thinking EFI system or MAF sensor...or both, one relying on other...etc. this is a concern, but a more bizarre thing happened right @ 5pm when he backed it out of the garage. i was in the car too, he turned it off, pulled out the key and some dash lights stayed on. ever hear of such a thing? sorry to bug you~ i really am wondering about a MAF sensor from you~ mine is a 2.5 engine~97 legacy outback thanks again~ jody sue every older subaru i called about(95 and older, if you know what i mean~i didn't want to have to jump through any emissions hoops) all were already sold. so i settled for a newer,,,and am starting to regret it. Anybody have any Ideas???

Tire Rack lists 195/60/15's as an optional size for my car. I did find some 02 Legacy wheels that depending on the make of Legacy (not listed in the ad) would have 205/60/15's. I used the tire calculator to compare and they look like they could fit. Their shorter then Zap's 195/70/15's. I'm calling about these rim's in the A.M. Any feedback would be great!

I compared the offsets on wheels at tire rack and its the same between my car and the outback of the that year. The tire size calculator is a great tool I've had it saved in my favorites for a couple of years now. I'm still a lit sketchy about it. I bent a rim and need new tires and this guy is selling the whole set with tires for $160! I would save money and upgrade from steel wheels. I'll have to watch my speeding though. At 60 I'll be doing 65. Thanks for the help so far guys!

My car starter pulling and vibrating a couple of months ago. 97 leg wagon 2.2 I didn't think much of it I did some snow banking over the winter. I was changing the oil and noticed a 2 inch strip of my drivers tire was worn bald but thats not all. The CV boot was thorn in half. Is there something in the front end that can cause both? or is the Axel causing all of this? When I bought the car a year and 26k ago the pass. side Axel had already been changed. I don't see anything else wrong but I haven't pulled the Axel yet. Just wondering what I should be looking for.

I bought a 97 leg wag auto 2.2 a couple of months ago. Over the last week or so I noticed when I turned to the left it shutters. Seems to be coming from the front pass. tire. It's almost like the axle is slipping. I'm not sure if an axle can slip but thats what it feels like. There is no noise coming from that side. The boots look fine. I've put about 5k on the car. When I bought it the dealer gave me some receipts for parts he put it. On one of them was a axle. I don't remember which side but I do remember thinking why just one. Anyhow what could this be??

Crutchfield is ok but I found their a little over priced. I use http://www.sounddomain.com/ Theres a forum, chat and many Subaru owners on there. -
I recently bought a 97 Legacy wagon 2.2 with 94k. After about a 1000 miles I notice a knocking at start up till operating temperature then it seems to go away. I was wondering if anybody had any idea what it might be. Any help would be great. I put a ton of miles on this car and I want to make sure I'm not damaging it.

I've been looking on ebay for performance chips and intakes to add some pep to my 97 legacy wagon 2.2 auto. Has anybody tried any of these products or can suggest any products to improve my 2.2's performance. I'm not looking to do any major mods. I do know that next time I will buy a stick. Any help will be appreciated.

Ok I went and saw the title. It's from Ct. So I think I can rule out Katrina damage. I did run a vin check with Consumer Guide it came back clean. I got a 60 day membership so if anybody wants me to run a check for them pm me. I will look into checking up on it with the dealership. I didn't even think of that. Thanks guys!

I found a nice 2000 Leg. Gt 5 speed with a new clutch 138,000 miles. That I'm really considering buying. I know there's a couple things I should be looking for. It was bought at auction in CT. One owner and no maintenance records. What other then the head and timing belt should I be looking for? I ran a vin check and nothing came up. Any help would be great.
