Had to unexpectedly replace all four tires today. Drove about 175 miles, pulled over to take a break and double check the lug nuts. Turns out three tires are one model of firestone tire and the fourth is another firestone tire. They are all the same size at 205 70r 15.. Any thoughts on the severity of this? This is on a 96 outback with 5 speed transmission and 203K miles. I have to call the shop back tomorrow to see what I can do about it but am concerned about the miamatched tires even if I get new ones. They are all season tires according to tire rack but the different on has a m+s rating on the sidewall too. I guess I can measure the diameters. I'm just kind of annoyed right now.

The autozone I went to a few times just gave me the scan tool and let me do it myself in the parking lot. Write down the code(s) then clear them all to see if they come back. I had a cel come on after replacing some items. I cleared the code and the light never came back on. Just a weird glitch I guess.

My driver side rear quarter window on a 96 obw broke while I was out of town for Thanksgiving. I don't know what hit it, but I heard a pop and looked in the rear view mirror to see something weird. I wasn't going to drive 5 hours home on the NY thru way with a busted out window so I had to find a place quick. Went with a company called Payless Auto Glass. It cost $241.50 tax included. They came to the house and did it in the driveway. I still find glass bits in nooks and crannies, but there doesn't seem to be any leaks.

Cool. I was reading the recent atf thread and the point about the fluid draining down the fill tube made by fairtax seems like what happened in my case. I will check the level periodically to make sure everything stays where it is. I guess with each dipstick pull, I'm bringing the fluid down just a little bit closer to the full line. The transmission feels much better shifting now with the fresh fluid though.

Apparently transmission fluid is a popular topic today. I had the opportunity to change the transmission fluid for the first time after 2.5 years of ownership in my 96 5 speed. I put in fluid to get to just below the Full line so I buttoned everything up and took a test drive running through all the gears. I pulled the dipstick and found the level up at the F letter. I checked again several hours later and it is still at the elevated level. I searched the forum and found a discussion about overfilled auto transmissions and it was helpful, but since I have a manual, is the level as critical? I even thought about a syringe and some rubber tubing to pull some out through the fill tube rather than pulling the drain plug, but maybe it's not a big deal. Thanks for any input.

I have a Thule rack for a 96 Outback. I use the LB 50 bars and foot pack 1054. I bought the feet second hand so not sure if that is the current model #. I leave the factory cross bars on because the Thule rack fits around them and I can't see taking them off to then have to store them somewhere. I don't know if the 2000 model roof is radically different, but maybe this helps. I found the Thule site fine. My rack came from another vehicle that I had used the gutter feet for. Traded in the gutter pack for my current set up.
