yup, the battery was indeed dead, but the starter is also suspect. i actually took the starter to the store to have it tested, it popped out and spin like it should, but when i had it on the car, it was acting like it was dead. so if i do manage to make it for the show, it will be in the impreza since i couldnt get it registered and tagged today:( i am still going to work on it tonight though. -
ok, got a new battery this morning, its not the problem, granted, i needed the battery anyways for the impreza. im leaning towards the started after lookign at a few things and talking to a friend about it. looks like the starter is shot, its drawing a lot more voltage than it should be and te positive cable is getting hot. it turns very very little when i hit the key, the alt. belt moves maybe 1/4" tp 1/2" and bounces back when i let off. the realy suck part of it is that now i cant get the car registered for at least another week or two. mom wouldnt add it to the insurance since it wont start and without that, i cant get tags for it. so even if i do get it running this weekend, i cant ever test drive it, thats if i could even afford the parts to fix it. wouldnt have been so bad if the bank would let me have more than $100 of my pacheck before next week.

no coolant passages in my carb for coolant to get into the manifold that way. either way, i think it was the battery, i think it was leaking already, but i thought it was just water from all the rain we have had out here. i just got a new battery for the impreza, so ill try that out after breakfast. i think that was the reason it wasnt turning over, but i didnt think of it last night cause i had been driving the car yesterday, it started fine, but maybe it was already going out and starting it that last time was enough to do it in.

im starting to think it was the battery, when i used it to start the ipreza this morning, it was flat dead. luckil;y, mom paid for a new battery this morning. so after i eat, i am going to try to get the new battery in the brat and give that another shot. -
so yeah, i finally get the carb back into the brat, get seats in it, start bolting up the fenders. and now it wont even turn over, so i have no idea if my carb rebuild fixed my original problem or not. i dont know what is wrong now, i think it might be the starter, but im really not sure. when ever i try to start the engine, it just makes a loud "clang" and i think it tries to turn but just bounces back to where it was before i turned the key. i am thinking that its either the battery or cables is buggered or the starter is done. but it was turning over just fine last weekend when i swapped in a new fuel pump/ i am starting to think that im not meant to ever drive my brat. everytime i make a bit of progress, it immediatly countered with some sort of set back. how can i tell if its the starter without pulling it off the engine>?

well, ive come to the conclusion that god hates me. first off, i wont have any money this weekend eventhough i got paid today due to a new policy at my bank that wont let new accounts access their moeny for about a week:mad: , i was already in not so good of a mood due to a couple people that i work with treatiing me like i dont matter. and on top of everything, i have no idea if the carb rebuild fixxed the problem in the brat because the engie wont turn over, just makes a loud "clang" when i turn the key. never had to deal with that before, and it was spinning fine last weekend when i replaced the fuel pump/ im almost to the breaking point, i dont know what to do anymore and im not sure if ill actually be able to make it out the way things keep going for me, i think im close to just giving up on cars in general, granted, that wont ever happen anyways, then i would be bored, lol. either way, i dont know what to do, the battery i took out of the brat and put into the impreza is leaking, i cant afford the new battery or any more replacemnt parts for thebrat, and now its rain, great. -

next year? im still trying to figure out whats going on this year at the show. figured that id at least ask while i am here, does anyone have a spare carb just incase mine is buggered, i got the wrong rebuild kit from the parts store and had to make my own gaskets for some of the parts last night. that and it was the first time i have ever worked on a carb, so i have nbo idea of how well i did on it:-\ -

me no likey spiders. well, it would figure, ive hit another snag on the carb issue, the store sold me the wrong kit. this one looks like its for what i am guessing is the carb fro an ea82 car. the gaskets are clost, but the spacing is different and the openings are a tiny bit larger. i have no luck sometimes -

i is scared about breaking something on the carb trying to rebuild it myself, ive never worked with carbs before, im all about fuel injection and turbos. i just dont want to rist breaking the carb or a part from it and not being able to fix it in time for the show. ive been trying to get ahold of my friend all day, but he doesnt always answer his phone, unless he wants me to do something for him, typical i guess:-\ -

trying to figure out the brat
subyrally replied to subyrally's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
sooo, umm, yeah, i am clueless when it comes to carburetors and rebuilding them. i got the rebuild kit, but im afraid that ill break something trying to take it apart. i started on it, but i cant get some of the parts off and some of the screws are a bit "tight". i jsut dont want to strip anything or break anything that i might not be able to fix or replace before the weekend. -

hmmm, just wondering, could the anti diesel valve cause the fuel to not make it through the carb? the original owner had a brand new valve in still in the box with the brat when i got it. i cant remember why he said that he got it, but i think he said that he had fixed the issue that caused him to get it in the first place. ive got the carb parts on the way, should have everything by tuesday, but i am getting a little worried that i might not be able to get it running in time. i guess i am just paranoid. -

well, i actually managed to get a carb rebuild kit and a new float ordered up today, i should have em by tuesday... i was worried that i wouldnt be able to get a replacement for all the parts, but it looks like the kits come with everything i need. ive heard that people generally have good luck with the gp-sorensen kits. just beware if you go to advance auto parts, they have a good price on the rebuild kit, but the float is about twice the price of everyone else, at least in my area. make sure that you shop around before you buy. i just ope that i can get the parts and get the carb rebuilt and the engine running in time for carlisle.
