mine will be able to handle light off roading, but i am making it for the twisties in the hills and to take to the road course. even though i cant stand street racing, it will still be funny to suprize the ricers and a few of the "tuners" around here. needless to say, people here dont think of any old subaru as quick, let alone fast, i am hoping for fast. we will see. but either way, it will still be a beast in gravel.

i love my brat, havent even driven it yet, but i love it. i cat wait to get it on the road finally, but first i really need to find work and a new welder.

basically, that and make sure that you have a good tune up and fresh fluids, ect...

i miss having turbo -
90mph for 90 miles will be easy, hell, i did that in my rx, without overheating, when i had cooling issues, lol. got lucky and didnt get pulled over on that trip, but i did coming home because of the hella driving lights on the hood, stupid va state troopers, the car was legal where registered in maryland. but yeah, if you can et a stock ea82t ad 3.7 gearset, you should be fine, just make sure you have enough airflow to the radiator and id also reccomend getting a free flowing exhaust to reduce the exhaust temps under the hood. either go catless, get a cutout, or go with a high flow cat and free flow muffler.that should help a little bit wth keeping temps down. by no means is it a close comparison to a good cooling system though, fluch and fill the system before you go out there, make sure the radiator is good and that hte fans work. might also want to work out a cold water sprayer for the radiator, not sure if it would do much on a suby, but it couldnt hurt.

well, good luck and have fun, and take lots of pics during the event, get video if possible. i want to hear about you finishing.

Last-minute 5-speed swap questions
subyrally replied to casm's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
get ahold of the two peice shaft from the original 5 spd car, take it to a machine shop or anywhere that makes drive shafts. tell them that you need it in a 1 peice, most should be fine with that and it gets rid of the carrier and can get you replaceable u-joints if you have a new yoke and flange put on it. -
Don't use 4wd LO(or HI) on pavement!!
subyrally replied to Gloyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i never had any issues with drving my rx win 4wd on pavement, just have to go to fwd at low speeds, like taking a turn from a stop, ect... as long as i was over 20 mph, the car was fine in 4wd. -

gary, you sir are good people. ill at least take you to dinner or something when i can. -
should have skipped the muffler hunting and gone with a universal that would give it a better tone.these cars sound great with a good free flowing muffler.

85 RX Rear Drive Shaft
subyrally replied to ScoobieDoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah, these are meant to be replaced, not repaired. i had two go bad on me, one the front u-joint crapped out and the other , hte carrier let loose and scared the hell out of me. actually, gary is the one that helped me out with that. i still owe you for that gary. a was actually going to go for a one peice shaft for my cars, but unfortunatly, its hard to spend $300 when you dont have a job if anyone does find a place that can get the center carrier for the two peice shafts, please let me know, even the place that was going to build my drive shaft couldnt get em. -
sounds like you have a fun project ahead of you.i am still trying to get my brat on the road, but having built my 86 rxx and started on my brat now, i know how annoying getting parts can be. i was lucky that i got a job with advance auto while i was working on hte rx. do be careful if you go to advance auto, the computers still list the wrong parts for the old school cars. make sure that you look at the pics if they are available. also, remember to take lots of pics and keep us updated on your progress.

not a problem

might help to give a bit more detail on what is needed. i know some people are better with structural work than cosmetic and vise-versa.

dude, if you are in the dc area, take a trip to anapolis subaru and talk to jackie. has to be one of hte best parts departments ive come across. jackie is grea, she has taken the time on numerous occasions to search down hard to find pars for me.

the way i see it, it would be fun as hell, but i figure that if i can beat cancer, then whats stopping me from tryin to finish a race? well, other than not having a car to compete with, lol.

\ thats what im sayin man. with some beefed up suspension, i dont see why a suby wouldnt have a chance.
-
good score man. be sure to take lots of pics for the rest of us.

holy crap, jay what have you been up to man? yeah, those tracks would be lots of fun. i heard that those are the tracks for atv's and run about $5000 a set.
