bad news about rust from the body shop
subyrally replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
at least you have shops that are willign to look at rust, there is only on shop i know of in my area that will even take the time to look at rust, even if its easily fixable. they only are willing to fix rust because they do classic car restoration. -
gd, i hate to say it, but if you want to rag on the ea81, start another thread. you know, some people like doing things because they are different, the road less traveled so to speak. but sure, if you wanted to get power with out spending a lot of money, you could do an ej swap. but seriously, hop of the soapbox, and quit being so agressive about the ej swap. not everyone wants to go ej in their cars, i dont, not in my brat anyways. and post count means nothing.

EA82 Cam Case Idea - maybe crazy **UPDATED**
subyrally replied to stephenw22's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
use the right stuff sealant, there is reason that its so expinsive, it works and works well. -
the other thibng you have to look at, these engines are generally going into a single engine plane. wouldnt yoou prefer to spend a few $$ more and know its going to be safe and reliable at the power levels they run at? im always willing to pay a little more to know that the parts will hold up to abuse and what not. sure, you could get the same performance from cheaper parts, but for how long?

nice, very nice.
-
should, just take your time with it and read the label carefully
-
pb also has a paint and sticker remover that should be safe to automotive paint. gets rid of spray paint rather well.

been there, thought of that. the ej pistons have a different hightfrom the ea pistons, you would need custom rods to make em work, but i cant remember the specs on that,. might just be easier and cheaper to get a set made for the ea engines. http://www.ramengines.com/ they make parts for the ea series. including forged turbo pistons and stainless valves. ive tlked to them a few times about the ea82t i want to build, just havent had the money to actually start my build yet but yeah, you can make the ej pistons work, but it wont be bolt in. -

do i sense a new reincarnation of bucky? even if not, the new impreza is a really nice car. i actually like the look of the hatchback version, especially the sti variant. cant wait till the sti is finally released. congrats on the new wheels there connie. how cheap are we talking on the impreza? my gf needs wheels soon and it might be a good push to get her to get a liscence. -

think there are a couple of people working on that right now. from what i understand, you will need to cut into the radiator support and move it forward to fit the engine. pretty sure that the trans will bolt up. also, from what ive heard, the pistons should drop right in. my concern would be with cooling and head gaskets to be honest. dont see why you couldnt build this thing to run, but it wont be too cheap to do it right. it should go like stink if you can get it done though, keep us updated on wht you end up doing, id really like to see this go somewhere. -
Two Loyales race in The 2904

this is interesting, let us know how things turn out, -
it might take a bit longer to get your parts, but call jackie at anapolis subaru here in maryland. she will go out of her way to help you find parts. if you go onto nasiopc and look in themid atlantic chapter, they have their contact info in the vendor section.

i like the sounds of a flowmaster or magnaflow muffler, something like the ones they market towards muscle cars, usually not too loud, but have a nice tone. but then agian, i also like a properly tuned "tuner" muffler, like the n1 mufflers. simple, compact, doesnt sound to bad. i am looking at a custom set up for my brat involving a dual cannister muffler that i used to have on my rx and impreza. was thinking about seperating the two mufflers on it and splitting em to go to either side of my brat, possibly have them both exit where the side steps are. i would have that to be removable to bolt on a normal rear exiting exhust for times when i have to have a quieter set up or for long trips, ect... eh, either way, i plan on having fun.

EA81T performance page.
subyrally replied to Jerry DeMoss's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i thought about that a while back when i was looking at getting a turbo brat. -
hmmm, looks like i need to go talk to some peoples if i can today. i know a few shops that do custom fabrication work. i dont trust me to do the axles right.
-
hmmm, this could be potentially annoying. i wonder if anyone on the east coast has actually done this on an ea81. and i guess the real question should be where do i find the axles needed or the info on the specs for it. it is going to be a while till i can actually do th swap on my brat anyways, its going to have to wait till i start working again so that can afford the suspension components i want for it.
-
one thing ive been wondering about with the 5 lug swap, if i am using a transmission from a turbo car and impreza front hubs, will i need custom axles? what axles fit that set up? also, i am goin to do this inmy brat.

any one got a welder i can use?
subyrally replied to subyrally's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i tried to find a way to contact century, but the only thing ive come across is the phone number in the owners manual, and that isnt right. it rang at an automotive parts supplier from what i can figure. -
A possible JDM/EDM soob i don't know about?

yeah, it didnt say that it was a subaru, but that it was more stylish than a subaru. -

i had thought of using fiberglass to patch it, but ive never worked with it before. and there are a few places where id rather have steel welded in place. i am thinking of glassing a few spots just cause it would be easier than trying to get into it with metal and a welder. but they are just small spots. i have also thought about going over some sections with fiberglass sheets to help water proof it and to kinda hid some of the not so pretty patches. eh, ill figure it out as i go. oh yeah, and the welder is rather cheap. its a century, lincoln's economy brand made in italy. i paid $250 for it new and it doesnt even have the option to hook up a gas feed, there isnt even a blank hole in the back for the fitting or anything. funny part is that when i called the service number for the warranty, it wasnt even the right number, it was some kind of auto parts company. and lowes doesnt keep info about warranty transactions for over a year, even though it has a 5 year warranty on it, so i cant even take it back cause they dont carry that brand anymore and i dont know where the receipt is:dead: .
