Documented: The 1970 FF-1 Project car...

man, that car is going to be sex on wheels when its done, lol. -
get a mistubishi starion intercooler, fits rather well behind the grill but youll have to rock out hood pins cause the hood latch will be in the way.
-
eh, i want to see how they are set up stock. kinda want to see exactly how diferent the tops are.
-
hmmmm, would you happen to have a pic of the stock legacy top mounts? i need to get to the point where i can get ahold of these parts and start figuring things out.
-
holy crap, he's alive!!! on a side note, looking at the first pic in the thread, the legacy shocks look like the mounting points might be an inch shorter than the stock ea82 shock. am i right or is it jus the angle of the pic?

it would be nice if i had access to better condition cars, granted, i am away from salt air, they still salt the roads here in winter. but for $350, i couldnt pass up this brat, i have been after one for years now and havent seen very many good condition brats that were at a reasonable price. thankfully, i have a lot of free time on my hands and nothing much for entertainment in my area. it really makes commiting to a restoration a bit easier, granted, that is undermined by my lack of income:dead: . eh, either way, i am almost dont welding up the driverside floor pan and have cut out most of the rust on the passengerside. once i get the floors done, i am going to get the rockers in and at least tacked up(my welder is crap) and then ill have a shop finish weld the rocker patches so that it at least looks halfway descent. only thing left after that is a few small spots around the outside, like the rear fender and a sopt under the rear bumper from a shoddy rear end collision repair. oh yeah, and there are a few small bits on th frame rail looking bits behind the front wheels that need attention. once i get the rust repair done, ill be looking at swapping in a 5spd full time 4wd d/r tranny and limited slip rear from a turbo car and then attempting a 5 lug swap on it as well. once thats out of the way, i am going to rebuild the engine with high performance bits. needless to say, i need to get a job before i get into the engine stuffs. gotta finish chemo before i can get into anything other than the rust repair. it shold be fun once i get it back on the road. keep up the good work with yours man, i definatly like that brumby.
-
good luck man, hope you can find a way to change her mind on that one.

if you come into frederick, there is a shop in town called givens. they are one of the only shops i know of in this area that will touch anuy kind of rust repair. they are very nice people and the owner has got to be one the absolute nicest people ive ever delt with. i am restoring my 85 brat and they were more than happy to help me out with advice and what not since i wanted to try to do the work myself. the only other shop i know of is a hot rod shop somewhere north of frederick in thurmont, but i cant remember the name of the place. you might want to post up some pics of the rust and whatnot you have to deal with. -
dude, that is just awsome. makes me happy to see. i hope mine is that nice when im done, but i gotta deal with the rust first.

i cant wait to see this car done, looks like its going to be very fun once you get it on the road. -
well, if you want a 5 speed and low range as well as a limited slip rear, look for an old subaru rx or gl-10 turbo. some of em had part time 4wd with fwd, 4wd hi and low, other had full time 4wd with high and low, and some of the full time 4wd even have a diff lock switch. the limited slip diff and turbo trans will have a final drive of 3.7. the lsd from these car is rather tight from my expiriance, had my rx on a lift and the rear might as well have been a locker, the rear wheels wouldnt turn opposite directions, but i never had any problems with it on the roads except for a but if chirping at very low speeds on dry pavement.
-
i like this idea. as far as the radiator, i think that you can get one for the 89 turbo wagon with an auto tranny that is a three core deal. if i remember correctly, it wasnt that expinsive either. icant remember where i found that listed though.

i love this thread, sooo many great bad ideas for me and my brat. i really cant wait to get it back on the road and get everything for the 5 lug and suspension upgrades.

Bucky Is On His Way 2 His New Home
subyrally replied to Bucky92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
mmmm, chicken n' dumplings, was going to have that for dinner tonight as well, but mom wasnt feeling up to making it good to see that bucky went ot a good home. i know how hard thats has got to be to give up the one that you love. stay strong connie. -
check out ram performance engines. they mainly deal with aircraft engines, but will also work with you to make a streetable ea series engine. they are the only company i know of that actually makes stuff specifically for the ea81 engines. get in touch with them and talk to Ron, i think. i am looking at getting their master rebuild kit with the high comp pistons and hot cam, ect... either way, it should be fun when i get it all together.

Cooling System, I bwoke somting!
subyrally replied to beataru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
that little hose isnt impossible, but it does take a lot of profanity if you dont pull the intake.ive had that hose go out on two engines. thankfully, the secodn time it happened, it was near the t-stat housing, so ill i had to do was trim it down and pop it back on. -
the problem is that subaru claims its not servicable, even though you can take out the castle nut holding it on and ter it down. the real problem comes when you try to get a replacement carrier for it. i took mine to a drive shaft shop not too long ago (gary should remember that) we went through multiple suppliers' catalogs and called a few, no one in the aftermarket produces a carrier in the right size, htere were a couple that were very close, maybe a little grinding and drilling here and there, but we couldnt find anythig that would just bolt in. and from what i remember from the dealership, any drive shafts they can get are $500, even for the old school cars since i believe they are interchangable. i think they just rounde3d em up into one part number, whn you look uip the old part, it comes up the same as the new one, at least at my local dealer. good luck, and if you can find someone that can get the proper carrier bearing in the aftermarket, please let me know, ive been looking for a while now.

What Cam grinds avail for EA82T ?
subyrally replied to discopotato03's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
from talking to delta, i know that 272 is the moderate grind, kinda what one might want for rally style driving. want to say thay they said 260-265 was the mild street cam. or something to that effect. -
Nitrous and Turbo EA81T EA82T
subyrally replied to Myxalplyx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
welcome back man. i still have the hood with the wrx scoop from your rx in my shed, at least that much of your rx still survives, and i think the body kit ended up out west, colorado last i heard. so at least some of the parts live on after the car was lost. cant wait to see what you turn out next. was always fun to follow your progress. -
ooooh, thats sexyness. i want rhd and turbo. keep up the good work and keep us up to date.

Nothing to grease on my Loyale?
subyrally replied to TheLoyale's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ive done pull-ups with a 3" 1/2" drive breaker bar trying to get the diff plug out. think i managed like 4 o5 before it broke loose and smacked me in the head, lol. the other mechanics at the shop i worked for got a good laugh outta it.
