Weatherly hill climb
subyrally replied to desertsubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
is it just me or did it sound like the rx7 at the end had anti-lag? -
are brats really that light? that really makes me happy to hear and plays very well into the plans i have for my brat. hehehe 2700 seems a bit hefty for a loyale, my impreza only tips the scale about 28xx with the auto tranny, i think they come in about 2810 with the manual. i want to say that the auto box adds like 50 or 60 lbs to the wieght of the car. i thought the loyale/gl/rx/ect... cars were about 2400-2500lbs. or something like that. eh, i might be very wrong too, im not afraid to admit that, lol. oh yeah, from what ive been told, rotaries are actually rather heavy for their size, something about wieghing only like 45lbs less than a chevy 350 or something like that. granted, this info comes from a friend that worked for a mazda tuning shop.

wonder how hard it will be to get 5 lug bits to work on my brat.
-
wondering if there is anyway to get the better front bits to work without actually going with a 5 lug swap. i can do the swap if i absolutely have to, but for the time being, its more than i want to do on my brat. that and i really dont know how id get all the parts for the swap, lol, xt6 rear bits are hard to come by. thankfully, i already have 5lug bits for the front but no idea where to get the rest of what i need.

looks like there are a few left in the country, she said 5 of one side and 8 of the other. couldnt find the book for the brat but we looked em up for the hatchback. they are about $150 each from subaru. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/member.php?u=107051 if you want em, they arent melted yet. call and ask for jackie. she is good people:headbang: they also give discounts for nasioc members, i think. either that or they just have some of the best prices to begin with. -

tried that a few weeks ago, after the guy at the counter stopped laughing at me, he said that they ran out like two years ago, or something like that. he searched the inventory, which i had to damn near force him to, and there were no results, at least thats what he said. but i just remembered that i have a friend at another dealer that wont feed me bs about it. ill give her a call and see what she can do. -

im in the same boat on this one, but from what ive seen, no one makes replacement sheet metal for these anymore . kinda wishing i had a source on floor pans cause im in the middle of patching up mine right now. next is the rockers. thats going to be fun:dead: looking at mill supply, looks like they carry the rockers for the wagons, but im not sure if they are the same as the brats. last time i checked that site, they didnt have anything but front fenders for the old school cars. -
I would like you all to embrace the suby!

glad someone else caught that, you really need to rig up a harness bar behind the seats, yolu dont want the belts at more than a 45* downward angle, otherwise, it can make you dead in a wreck. would hate to see any one get hurt while ouot having fun. other than that though, looks like a fun rig. keep us updated on your progress. -
Joining old gen but which way should I go?
subyrally replied to stumpy's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
first thing i would do is to make sure that you can title it for on road use, otherwise, you might be wasting a lot of money and energy in working on it. but onceyou know you can register it without any issues, go nuts. an ej swap might be some fun in that thing. would definatly be quick when done. -
basically, thats an easy fix, the hardest part is finding the proper sze drill bit for the helicoil. hate to say it, but replacing the heads cause of a striped bolt is like raplacing the car cause a scratch in the paint.

You must be kidding me...

reminds me of the people that refuse to sell a car in their driveway cause it might be worth more later, nevermind that by time they are ready to sell it, its soo rusted out that they have to pay someone to take it. like the guy with a porsche 911 turbo rotting in his driveway. wont sell it cause its going to be worth more later. i guess no one ever told them that rust isnt worth anything.. -
that makes me happy in the way that only a brat could:banana:

nice going man, the car looks great. keep it up!!

almost sounds like when the coolant hose for my turbo popped, might want to start there first then possibly check the turbo over. -
i probably wouldnt be able to make it down anywhere till next year anyways, i still have to worry about chemo for the next three months or so. but maybe ill have my brat set up by then and ill be able to roll down in that. one could only hope, lol. keep up the good work though, i cant wait to see how everything turns out.
-
dude, how far are you from the blue ridge parkway? or mt airy? my grandmother lives in southern va just off of the parkway and if i ever get down that way again, i want to see your set up in person, its kinda like what i have planned for my ea82t. thats if you wouldnt mind meeting up or something. granted, it might be a whilewith my chemo schedule and such. but yeah, id really like to see what you got in person if possible. keep up the good work man.

hmmm, think it would be a bit of a hike from the west coast to come to the cookout. unless you are east coast and just need to update your profile. -
the awd ej trans uses the same clutch disk as the 4wd ea trans. the only difference is depending on what engine you have, youll have adifferent flywheel and pressureplate. i think the disks are both a 1" X 28spline input shaft size. eh, either way, it was a lot cheaper for the clutch to go through brake a nd clutch of ashville. for the stage 2 clutch kit for my rx i paid less than the stock replacement from advance auto.
