  1. thats a sweet rx man, my friend just got an 87 thats done up nicely, but i still like my 86 rx:grin:
  2. sounds a lot like blow by, do a compression test. almost sounds like the rings might be starting to wear out. that sounds like what happened to the first engine i had in my rx, it sat for a long time before i got to drop it into the car, and i thing that the rings had some rust on em. either way, around a 1000 miles after i got the car put together , i started getting a lot of oil in the intake, to the pointthat it stopped the turbo. when i tore down the engine, i found over an inch of a ring missing all together. like i said, get a compression test done to it. best of luck with that.
  3. i might be down that way at the end of september for my friend's wedding. but i dont remember when exactly that is.
  4. id be down depending on price. but yeah, its seems to have been a long time with no news on the progress of the hoods.
  5. that might work. i was thinking that you could use the cat back section of a wrx exhaust until you decide to upgrade th turbo. where will you be living when you come back stateside? make sure to document the construction and results of your headers.
  6. i tried building my own headers but my welder is trash and the welds cracked. if you are looking for a decent 3" turbo back, look at ebay and find one for a wrx, thats what i got on my rx. youll need to do a little bit to get it fit, but its not that much, i think it just needs another bend and the hangers moved around. as for the headers. if you do it off of the engine, make sure that you take frequent test fits, i made my first set by using a mock up engine that i forgot to bold the oil pump onto, needless to say, i had to take it to an exhaust shop and have em pinch the pipe where the oil pump hangs down.
  7. you dont have to remover the turbo, but the rear bolt on the inlet flange cant be easily removed without pulling off the down pipe from the turbo. but once you get that done just jack up the passenger side and slide the manifold out.
  8. it goes like stink, when it wants to. i need to reseal the oil pan and pump . when i get home, ill post more pics.
  9. nice, keep em coming. maybe one day ill make my way out there for the show .
  10. sooo, how did you wire it up? also, how did you get the throttle cable linked up?
  11. sorry to drag up an old thread, but did anyone ever figure out how to wire up the 4 wire to the 3 wire harness? i think i read somewhee that three of the wires were the same function as the three wire and the fourth was something about idle enrichment or something to that effect that the xt needed. ive got the spyder manifold with the xt6 throttle body on it it the machine shop and i should be getting it back on monday.
  12. i work for advance auto so i know what filters are what, i dont mean to sound errogant or anything like that, but i sell these day in and day out. i only use the purolator pure one filters on my rx, sofar they work fine.
  13. the tough gaurd should be a greyish color, the ph filters are orange, either way, ill never use fram, never have and never will. purolator or k&n is where its at.
  14. not the safest, but it works take a breaker bar, get it on the bolt and turn the crank until it rests on the drivers side frame rail. then quickly crank the engine. i used to work for a subaru garage and was told that they have done that trick for many years, just dont get near the breaker bar if you try that if it slips, it isnt pretty.
  15. on mine. i had to twist and lengthen the down pipe, but then again, i ad to make mine a fully custom set up.
  16. 4 door jdm sti with i think a better suspension and tranny set up, the type ra was the 4 door, the type r is the 2 door. me thinks.
  17. i still want to try for it, i need an excuse to go down to my dad's place
  18. i didnt forget about the thread, i just wasnt getting that many replies, that and most every one on this forum lives out west:banghead:
  19. do a search for mega squirt, there are lots of possibilities with that.
  20. what about mine?? there we go, cant have a driving light thread without me now.
  21. get a hood from a beater, rattle can it to the color you like after you get the scoop in it.
  22. i need them cams and i also gotta finish my new headers
  23. way ahead of you, did that last night, but thanks for the advice.
  24. is anyone traveling east from colorado to the washington dc metro area?? i am thinking about to get a brat from some one out there and realized that there is no way that i could go about getting it myself. either that or does anyone know of a good car transported that wont rape me on the cost? depending on what i can find out, id like to at least make an attempt.
