mine does something like that every now and then, but its usually when accelleration from a stop. it wont rev in gear. starts bogging hard, then a loud pop, pop, pop from the engine. once it pops. it takes off like a raped ape and goes like stink. usually wont do it for a long time after though.

go will. this sounds like it will be a lot easier than haveing to revalve the shocks. let us know what the results are in the performance tests.

hey you guys that upgraded your Turbos,
subyrally replied to Tcat55371's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
not being in cali, they arent nearly as strict with emmissions. as long as the ca at least has a functioning cat, its legal, it doesnt have to be in the stock location. although, from what i hear, in va, they are trying to make it illegal to have any modifications to a car. i love being in maryland though, emmissions every two years and no inspections after you buy the car. as long as you dont have a cel in a newer car or pass the sniffer test in an older car, they dont really care. -
the only thing i can see is that the carb cams would most likely have more overlap betweeen the intake and exhaust lobes. turbo cams tend to have much less overlap to retain the extra pressure from the turbo. if there is too much overlap, the boost will jus be waisted through the exhaust, not pressurizing the cylenders. or something like that, i just woke up and am still loopy.

i was fiending last night, i needed the oldschool fix. -
to run the impreza engine, you would need a lot of work. i would try to get as much power from what you have before moving up to a different engine. where are you located?? sounds like you have a cool project underway though. good luck and get some pics of the action.

maf to turbo tube broke, repair or replace?
subyrally replied to subiemech85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
looks like what i used, only reccomendation on that would be to move the rubber hose from direct contact with the turbo. get a stock intake hose if you can find a spare, and put that at the turbo inlet and then get a 2" threaded pipe union thingy to connect the two hoses. i hope that makes sence to you, it did in my head, but ive only been awake for like 15 minutes now. -
make sure its clean, and then hit it with rubber under coating or spray on truck bed liner.should give a good level of rust protection.

Block building questions
subyrally replied to idosubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
there is a company that does rings, i think they are actually name gapless rings, but i hear that the no gap rings are actuall a waste of money, they apperently wear out faster than a standard piston ring. the same company makes regualr rings that are of very high quality and used a lot in racing from what i hear. -
maf to turbo tube broke, repair or replace?
subyrally replied to subiemech85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
hardware store would be the cheapest fix, just dont use the plastic pvc bits near the turbo itself, they will work for a few runs, but then start warping and melting. i ended up using a peice of threaded steel pipeing about 2" in diameter and 2" in length to connect the hose on the turbo to the rest of my intake. i havent ad any melting issues since. if you must ge the stock part, the dealer will be happy to hunt one down for something like $60 or so. at least from my expiriance, ive gone through 4 original inlet hoses, they were all used and all fell apart on me. you might be better off building something more reliable. -
How come these pistons not look the same?
subyrally replied to subynut's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the pins are smaller, the skirt is longer and there are no impressions for te valves. the longer skirts might make it less prone to piston slap. but thats about the only thing i see of any value with those pistons. personally, id get my money back and go with someone that works with these cars on a regualr basis. -
ea82t cam shaft upgrade
subyrally replied to tailgatewagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
hmmm, indeed, im thinking that i might go with a slightly smaller gring, maybe a rally/street grind. hey gary, let me know when you get it fixed. actually, if you havent already done so, you should stop by frederick motorsports and have scott build you a larger exhaust. he does excellent work. -
this ever happened to your soob?
subyrally replied to Urabus-84HBDR's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ive only ever seen that happen on cars with really worn pads or loose mounting bolts -
watch out, there are people here that will tell you its impossible. i think you should be able to do it, you will need a new ecu and at least the engine wiring harness. you will need better exhaust as well. as for the people saying it wont fit, i think that the left turbo needs to be moved to fit it in the car, then you will need heat sheilding around the turbos as well. but other tan that, i dont really know cause i havent had a chance to do anything with that engine. all i can really say is, take your time, dont skimp on the swap and dont cut corners. and on top of all that, good luck, id like to see this done as i cant afford a twin turbo engine of my own. peace tim
