RX update with pictures
subyrally replied to Caboobaroo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
im hoping that i might be able to get my engine done by the end of summer, then i can start getting together the bits for mega squirt and edis. hmmm, depending on ow reliable we can get these cars, we should get together somewhere and have a rx shoot out. maybe we can get one of the improt mags to cover the event, it would be great. maybe we can get the guys from scc out to prove that these cars arent all granny's grocery getter.it seems that every one that has an rx is fixing em up and try to get em back to life this summer. we should make something of all this. -
life time warranty means that if it fails due to manufacturer defects, they will rep[lace it as long as you own the car, its not a free set of pads due to normal wear and tear. suby gal, im looking at the 94 legacy sport rear brake calipers, do they come with mounting brackets? i have a set of vented rear rotors and pads for the legacy sport and am looking to mount em on my impreza, but getting ahold of the calipers is a bit tricky sofar. i might be able to order em from the advance auto parts store i work at. but id rather get em from subaru than a remanufacturing company. thanks tim c.

you might be able to get longer hoses and mount it elsewhere if need be, im not sure how well the car will run sans canister.

i was thinking about mounting a stereo in the head liner of my rx when i get it back on the road. that way, i can leave the center console open for anything else i might need. might end up doing it soon i hope. -
im lost at the speaker setup for the RX

go for a set of new pioneer speakers. take your car to an audio shop and have em rewire the car for new speakers. that is, if your willing to spend a few $ and have an aftermarket stereo. it will be worth it. -

cpngrats, you found the heater core. yeah, ive noticed that shallow syereo pockets are a rather common issue with the old school cars. be creative, besides, those universal mounting brackets never look good. -
also look into o-ringing the cylinders and port and polish the heads as well as a three angle valve job. should help out a bit the o-ringing should keep the head gaskets from blowing out unless you go outta your way to do so. im getting my first engine completely worked over by a shop that builds race winning engines.

gary, i can help you out with some of your body work, we can talk when you get the pistons.

i cut out the rust in the rear fenders, sanded out any remaining rust, covered the entire area including hte wheel well with rubber under caoting, the pop riveted aluminum sheet metal over the holes and even reconstructed the shape to the fenders, then wen crazy with the rubber coating to make sure that water and moisture never see that area again. i think the rubber finally got to be about 1/4" thick around the rust prone bits. and thats the rubber spray that doesnt build up easily. when in doubt, overkill. needless to say, im going to get it prefessionally fixed one day when i can save to money to do it, and once its back on the road.

What will get out this stain?
subyrally replied to MorganM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
almost looks like youd need an act of god to get that outta there. or maybe just some good detailing. -
yup, theys the same thing, as well as i think vf4 and vf2, or someting like that. both of the engines i had in my rx had a vf4 turbo bolted to em when i got em. from what ive been told, its pretty much the same turbo.

those seats look like the set that are in my 86 rx. well, maybe just in better shape as mine are nearly 20 years old and had been neglected for like 7 years.

how this new item work ? + link to ebay.

i think that is just a $0.47 resistor that the plug some wires into and say its a tuning chip. what it does is it makes the ecu think that it is running lean and thus adds more fuel. it also has a tendancy to fry the maf and ecu. at least thats what people have said, a lot. its a waste of money. -
Loyale hit while parked; TOTALED???
subyrally replied to thealleyboy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you will feel better once you have hunted down the person that did that. i bet the car will run better too. hmm, sounds like it might have jarred the allignment bits from the impact, yo should get it up on a jack and take a cose look at the ront suspension on both sides, also take a look at the front x-member and frame. hopefully, its not too bad. good luck.
