welcome to the forums, your not the only one with head gasket issues. mine has started doing the coolant flavored smoke screen everytime i run it.

subarubrat, you gotta come up to frederick sometime, im planning a suby meet here, im thinking there are a lot of things i could learn from talking to you. as for the idea of twin turbos, if you want to do it, do your homework before you ever even touch a screwdriver.
-
(slight hijack)hey tbird man, your in boone, does the theme park tweetsie railroad still exist? i used to go there as a child. and yes, remote turbos will work, thyere is no reason that they wont, unless you dont use the right turbo for the application.

dag, i just noticed, a few of you guys live near my grandmother in the blue ridge mountains. she is right off the blue ridge parkway in fancy gap va. we should gt together next time i manage to make it down that way. id love to see a turboed flat 6 that isnt in a porshe. hopefully, ill be able to drive my rx next time i have a chance to get down that way again. hell, maybe ill even come up with a remote turbo on my car, just cause i can, grantd, i have got to save up money just to get the 90k service for te impreza before i can have fun. but once i get things underway, i am going to make a lot of progress on my rx, and hopefully gt my engine built up.

without inspiration, whats the point, i though this site wa here to voice opinions and come up witn new ideas. im all about getting contrasting opinions, but whats the point of a forum if every time some one says "what it?" you tell em to basically shut it? ive come up with a lot of ideas about my own cars from other people speculaing about things. lets all try to keep an open mind. id hate to see this site turn into another i-club or nasioc where childish peaple run rampant and good ideas go unheard. just had to go ranting, dont mind me. peace tim

tbird man, you are my hero. there is no problem running turbos in the rear from what ive heard and from people that ive talked to. like said in a few places, as long as you plan things out first and do your homework, there is no reason that this wouldnt work. besides, the exhaust doesnt loos that much heat bytime it reaches the tail pipe. if you dont beleive me, look at my rear bumper cover on my impreza, its melted a bit from contact with the exhaust tip. ive seen n/a cars with holes burned into the bumpers, so it does still hold quite a bit of heat. another benefit of remote mounting is tht you can have a totally seperat oil and coolant source for the turbo, so if the engine craps out, the turbo wont go along with it.you could get external oil coolers and a small radiator and run em with electric pumps and seperate resiviors.

Mystery Parts.....what are they??

#1 is a dohicky and #2 is a thingamjig. yeah. #1 looks like the purge solinoid. i have no idea about #2 -
there is actually a company that makes turbo kits that mount the turbo under the rear where the muffler goes. the ay i see it, if you get some thicker walled exhaust pipes and wrap em with insulation, should help keep the velocity up and the temp stable. besides, the exhaust doesnt loose that much velocity by time it gets to the muffler, tends to be the muffler that slows it down. as for turbos not fitting under the car, ive noticed that the space the muffler sits in is larger than any turbo ive seen on a suby, but you would probably have to moddify the other side of you wanted twin turbos. after i get my ea82t built back up with all the go fast bits, i will save a bit of money and try out the remote turbo idea, i just need to find an external oil pump to send oil back to the turbo. im wondering if i could set up the turbo with its own oil system with an external cooler. besides, this will give me a chance to try out new ideas for my subies, granted, i should get it running first. great thing about ding a remote mount set up is that you can use the stock n/a exhaust up to the axle back. just replace th muffler with the turbo assembly. nothing is impossible, not with a positive attitude. i try to keep an open mind about things, especially things that make my car better. i first heard of the remoe turbo set ups from an article in turbo magazine. ill try to find it and post a link to the company that makes the official remote turbo sets. peace tim

for the turboes, you couls always rig up a remote mounted set up. mount em under the rear of the brat instead of a muffler. from what ive heard, the intake plumbing running under the vehical cools the air char so that it reduces the need for an intercooler. it would be cool to look into a tail pipe and see the turbine sitting there instead of a muffler. and for protection and a bit of sneakyness, you could get some thing sheet metal and make a muffler looking shell to put over the turbos to hide and help protct them from the elements. i want to try this one day, i hope i can pull it off.

K&N for Soobs?
subyrally replied to AWD's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
i drive a lot of gravel roads and back country roads around here, as well as a lot of highway driving. they also put down sand as well as calcium and salt during winter here. sofar, in nearly 50-60k using the k&n cone filter, ive had no issues with the filter letting in particulates that cause any issues.the only notworthy problem that i can remember, is that one time when on the high way while following a semi truck in a heavy downpoor, there was so much water getting to the filter that the car started to sputter a little bit, granted, it was raining so hard that i sholdnt have been trying to drive that day.. i still say that if you take care of the filter, clean and reoil it properly and when needed, you wnt have any problems. -
Just got a Saab 900 IC...now what?

an intercooler wold just hurt performance on a n/a car, you need the forced induction to get the air through the intercooler with any gain from it, basically, it would restrict the flow of air to the engine. damn, of all the times i cant remember how to spell, and the way i want to say it, it makes more sence than the way ive typed it. -
basically, when you put in the fuse, you are sending an uninterupted power source to th solinoid, normally, it is regulated however its needed for traction. when it is left alone, it turns on and off as needed, thus giving it a chance to cool off and also to maintain the best traction level to the wheels. when you put the fuse in, is constantly engaged, which i think its a powered "off" style circut. when it cant turn off, it builds up more heat than it was designed to deal with for prolonged periods. and thus, has the possibility to burn out. its not definate, but i dont reccomend running in fwd. peace tim

K&N for Soobs?
subyrally replied to AWD's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
ive been using one on my impreza since i got it at 69k, im now at 122k and have absolutely no problems related to the cone filter. at least none that are worth remembering. k&n is probably one of the best filters in the aftermarket, id definatly go use k&n or hks. as for cone filters not improving performance, thats bull, when i added mine, my car was bone stock with a brand new paper filter. i noticed a definate difference in power and accelration. especially at high rpm. that and the sounds were cool too. the car instantly had better acceleration than stock, and thats just with a cone filter mounted to the throttle body. granted, that only works on map based engines, not on maf engines. another car that benifited greatly from a cone filter was my friend's 1990 toyota camry with the 3s-fe inline 4 engine. afterthe filter was put in, his car would actually accelerate like a real car. and top end was much improved. you can bash aftermarket intakes all you want, but ill never go back to stock intakes, both of my cars have cones in em. peace tim c. -
using the fwd fuse to drive on a daily basis can cause damage to the diff if it isnt already gone bad. the center diff is electronic and putting the fuse in puts the solinoid to 100% duty, which can cause it to over heat and burn out permanatly. from what ive heardm there isnt much improvement in gas economy in fwd as opposed to awd. but i could be wrong on that.

there are a lot of intake and other performance mods that you can get for subies. check out some of the tuning sites out there www.nopionline.com www.rallitek.com www.planetperformance.com -
id rock that out, i do like the mini spoiler that redirects the air flow, that looks kinda sweet. ive heard that the under carrage plastic bits might actually make it over hear when they bring it to us, its not actually armor, but its there for aerodynamics. i think im liking it more every time i see new pics of it.

welcome to the forums. its a great place to learn, dont ever be afraid to ask a quetion. as for rtfm, i think it stands for "read the fugging manual" eh, manuals are a great thing to have, but they dont always go into depth on some things, thats where the the forums come into handy.

XADO - anyone ever heard of it or used it?
subyrally replied to KStretch55's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
thanks for the response on my question. once i get my other engine built up, i think ill replace the head gaskets in the current engine and give the stuff a test run. it couldnt hurt anything on an engine im not planning on running again once i get the new engine. it would be worth a try, i think that the head gaskets are the only issue with the engine at the moment. i should be able to get to the point that im ready to try the stuff soon, i think ill be starting a new job this week coming up and then should start actually making some money. -

i wonder if that would help a failing head gasket. if i had any money and knew that it would help the engine in the rx, id be all over it. hmm, how much is it for the gas engine oil aditive stuffs? -

hmm, i thought that a product has to be proven to get a us patent. it has one, ths cant be too bad, in theory, but then again, we wont know till some one tries it. hell, i might give it a try, if it delivers on its claims, it might bet my rx running right again. or at least help, good thing i have two engines for it. -
