mayday, the rx still dont run!!
subyrally replied to subyrally's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well, i know that hte spark is getting at least to the ends of the wires, me and my friend checked for spark, and when i had the cap off to make sure that hte rotor was spinning when i cranked it, i saw the spark jumping the gapthat the rotor would usually bridge.tomarrow, i will try fo some new plugs to see if that makes any difference. if not, then ill prolly be calling local garages. unless someon is able to come out here to help out. -
whats up with that?!?!?, i thought you were gunna hook me up with a few parts from your rx. not that it really matters, i cant even get mine to run

TURBO JUSTY sighted?????
subyrally replied to Hondasucks's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
thats just not right. now just imagine finding a way to fit the ej20 outta a jdm sti, hkmm, lets say ver6 or so, in a justy. that would be meen, no one would ever see that coming when you absolutely rape them head to head. -

oh yeah, btw, i know that when you set timing belts, you set one side up and the other down. i used to work for a suby garage (bunch of jerks there) and i have every book for the 80's subies. that i could find. as well as the fact that i go to school now for automotive technology at lincoln tech. -

i need to check that, i havent cahnged the timing on the belts since they were first installed and the car ran fine till it died 2 months ago. i wonder if the plugs could have been fauled by the repeated attempts to start the car without success. any ideas or opinions? btw, for any that dont know, the rx does have the ea82t, mpfi turbo.great car when it runs, but for me, its a p.i.t.a. -
...and ive been old that if i cant get it running soon, ill have to junk it. i have replaced just about all the ignition system components under the hood during the last couple months. new coil, ditsy, cap, rotor, plug wires, alternator, battery, plugs are new from december when i built the engine. i set the timing on the ditsy to tdc. the timing belts are still in sink. i checked for spark, it were there. pulled a plug and smelled gas, so the injectors are working. i tried starter fluid and the car didnt even try to start, i just got a single "pop" from the tail pipe. i really need to get this car running again so that i can get to and from school while my impreza is in the shop.(damn deer) it will be down for at least two weeks and i think that getting the rx running will cost less than getting a rental car, even with the insurance co paying a bit towards that. any help would be great, i need all that i can get. i am at a loss on trying to fix it. i have no idea of what else to look for. thanks tim c.

that price is retail on all the parts and the cost of paint and labor. it should all be cover ed be the insurance co. unless they total it, in which case, id raise hell everywhere it would make a difference. i really think it would be dumb to total a car that has a little bi of body damage. but the repair costs are getting ot be near if not over 40% of the blue book value or the car.
-
well, from the pics, it looks a lot better than it is, i went to the body shop after i got home tonight, just to look at the car(the shop was closed) the radiator support and basically the whole front end support bit is bent up rather badly, couldnt see it before cause the hood was stuck shut and the grille and light were still in place. the shop called me earlier and said that the estimate sofar was around $4300 and they hadnt finished tearing it down to inspect for more damage. it looked like they already moved the radiator off of the drive belts though, the supports are still badly damaged. the hood was definatly a total loss, then they cut a hole in it to get it opened. i was looking at some venders on nasioc and found one that was selling the twin beam morette style headlights and a cf hood withthe scoop and vents for less than the stock parts from the dealership.i might just endup saving a few bucks from the deductable and making my car better in the process. but for the meantime, i still need to get the rx running and registered sothat i can get to and from school while the impreza is down. thanks everyone for your support and concern.

thats funny, i want a huge pushbar and driving lights. i think that would have made a differance in hte damage i suffered. although, a huge pushbar doesnt really look that good on an impreza.
-
i really hate deer, especially the ones tht dont look both ways before crossing the interstate at night without wereing reflective garments. bastids. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7480974&posted=1#post7480974 here be the thread i posted on nasioc not the real issue other than the impreza being hurt is that i really really need the get the rx running again so that i can get to and from school. i have no transportation now.the rx still wont start aswell.

subyrally replied to HardcoreSoob's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
im thinking that you may be able to use something like a wheel spacer to bolt the rim to the hub. i was thinking about that a while back, but havent had the time or money to try it. -
im scared, soooo much power from a 1.8l engine. sounds awsome though, i want it.
-
my only concern with popinting it to the back is that when you are driving, the wind going over the snorkle might create a dead spot in the air flow, almost a vacuum sucking air out of it.

The ultimate fuel additive
subyrally replied to torxxx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i dont have detonation problems, but my car still runs like crap on regular, the two extra octane points really seem to help. i only use mid in my rs. -

yes, i want to knoww more. -
you need my friend's impact gun, its got "nut bustin" torque
-
thats when you get huge fender covers and and mud flaps.
-
i thought that the tranny wouldnt go into or out of low at speeds above 20mph. at least not without major damage.
-
most of the snorkles i have seen open to the front, if you are worried about mud, just get some bigger mud flaps

poor greenbacks, i wish i had some to sacrifice. good luck with our project, mine is going very slow, although i ended up getting some free stuffs today, well, nearly free. got a jdm ver7 sti bov for the cost of lunch and i scored some free wrx shocks and struts. now to find a use for the suspension components.

i like this thread sofar, besides, if people only posted when they accomplished a great conversion or build up, this forum would be rather dead and boring.

im getting confused. btw, wha is the conversion betwween hp and ps? ive been trying to figure out hte hp ratings on japaneese cars in a video game.
