just curious ea82t swap
subyrally replied to codytotheh's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the ea82t is a fun engine when you get it running rght. my rx is nuts, what can i say. but yeah, if youcan get the whole car, then you will have everything you need. the hardest part will be the wiring, just plan on spending a fair amount of time in the harness. like was said before, you will need the turbo engine cross memeber, the ecu, the wiring harness, and all the accesories and sensors for the turbo set up. btw, i am doing this swap into my brat. -
Battery Relocation :)
subyrally replied to Caramanos2000's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you know, common sence would dictate that one would turn it off, but i tend to lack common sence and i cant remember how to turn the sterio off, lol. -
Battery Relocation :)
subyrally replied to Caramanos2000's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well, after tonight, i can definatly say that you wont regret the optima. i have muy battery in the trunk of my rx, using a plastic battery box sitting in one of the cargo compartments. i still need to acutally secure the box, but for now, the elastic and 2x4 are working rather well. as for the optima, i spun the crank pulley bolt out on my way home from work tonight (didnt come all the way out) and when i got it back in, i noticed that the alternator belt was a bit loose due to the alternator moving a bit when the pulley fell down. i tried to tighten everything up, but the bolt that holds the alternator in place stripped out and wouldnt hold tension on the belt. so yeah, i basically drove 25-30 miles on minimal charging and the battery. every time i would turn the wheel, the charge light would come on and when i used turn signals, the radio would turn off, lol. but thanks to that battery and i am thinking the rx's desire to live to irritate me another day, i made it home safely. sorry for the novel, lol. -
What is on top of the thermostat housing?
subyrally replied to 88 EA82T's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
if it is what i am thinking about, its the aux. air valve. i think it gives you the high idle untill the engine gets to temp, then it closes, or something like that. -
Strut tower Reinforcement?
subyrally replied to 88RxTuner's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
there was someone a while back that was advertizing a plate that goes on top of the strut tower and acts to stiffen and reinforce the area. i think it had holes big enough that te nuts would still hold down the struts, but it was welded on to the tower all the way around, or something like that. if i can find it, ill post more accurate info. i think it was marketed toward rally car preperation -

i am looking at 05+ legacy turbo suspension to swap into my brat once i do the 5 lug swap. its going to take a little while though, i have to save tome money first and also get the brat on the road. but for the rear suspension bits, i am looking at fabricating a new rear shock tower and wheel well. -

welcome from america, good to see another brat owner. im happy to see that im not the only one looking to make a sporty brat. i am about to swap my brat over to the engine and drivetrain from an 87 rx very soon. sadly, even though it was a planned swap, i have to get it done sooner than expected due to the crap economy and my impreza needing to be parked for a while. but i guess its not all bad, i might be able to finally drive my brat for the first time since i got it almost two years ago:lol: on a side note, you guys from across the pond, should you ever find yourself in the washington DC area, should get in touch, id be happy to take you around the area if needed. -
i am thinking that with the long travel square tube axles, it wouldnt cost too much in materials. the hardest part would be milling and then geting everything ballanced. you would have to cut the stock axle apart, keeping the splined bit at the trans side to weld to the tube, then mill the axle shaft to fit snugly into the tube. add a lot of grease to keep things from binding. i would also add slightly larger tubing sections, like 1-2" long bands at each end of the tubing section to reinforce the tube and keep it from splitting at the corners. also i would add a ring on the original shaft and on the tube section to be able to attach a flexable boot, like what you would see on a steering rack, to keep the grease from washing out and to keep dirt and muck from getting in. bosko, you gotta call me again sometime, we gotta come up with some more crazy ideas, lol. but for now, my luch break is just about over, so i gotta get back to work :-\ have fun guys peace tim

Corbeau Seats in a Brat?
subyrally replied to renob123's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
if im not mistaken, wont the 85 GL 2 door brackets work for the brat? on a side note, i need those, and the seats that attach as well, lol -
Are these gaskets for an ea82T?
subyrally replied to the sucker king's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the tiny little gasket there looks like the gasket that goes on the bottom of the turbo for the oil return pipe. at least from here, lol.but yeah, the other guys pretty much hit the nail on the other gaskets. -
Single Point Fuel Injection on a ea81
subyrally replied to thermalsurfing1's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
down boy. its not your car, so dont worry about what he is putting in it. we appreciate your opinion, but you dont have to force it on to everyone that doesnt have an ej swap. -
get in touch with brake and clutch of ashville. they made my clutch thats in my rx. stage 2 performacne clutch, i cant slip it. n top of that, it cost less than the stock replacement clutch kit from advance auto. i will post the info when i get home from work tonight. i am sure you can find it on here if you search. they do good work.

Any ideas on a Brat harness bar/harness setup?
subyrally replied to renob123's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ive have been trying to figure out the same thing for my brat. i am thinking that you might be able to get a harness bar for an impreza, or base one off of it. but there shouldnt be any reason that you couldnt make a harness bar to mount where the top of the stock seat belts are bolted in. then just make some anchor plates in the floor or backo of the cab area to secure the ends of the harnesses. i doubt that anything will bolt in directly in the bar, unless you get lucky and find something that is the same width inside. even then, it might still be a challenge to do so. if you come up with anything, let me know, i am in the same boat on that one. -
welcome to the club. im sure that we can helpyou out in your search for a worthy 80's model suby. infact, i might have a line on one or two in maryland. peace tim

interesting, very interesting.

you could always do what i am going to do in my brat, cfut out the wheel wells in the rear and make you own custom shock mounts. i am planning on taking out the tortion bars and converting mine to coil over suspension in the rear. i will also be making a full custom strut mount and then a new wheel well around it.

subyrally replied to Kostamojen's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
i was goingto post up a pic od those latches, they are fairly popular in racing. on top of that, they just look cool when you have the fluch mounted latches. and they are more secure than hood pins. -
actually, my 86 rx had wiring harnesses from about three different cars. the body harness was the orginal, the engine harness was from an xt turbo (for the spyder manifold) and i think the wiring from the ecu to the engine was from an 87 or 88 gl-10 wagon. all of it worked together and none of it fit properly under the dash:lol:

thats nice, my only concern is that it needs more skid plate up front.

1985 4WD Turbo RX
subyrally replied to thermalsurfing1's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
if it runs well, is clean, little to no rust, and everything works, i would expect around $1200 or so. the rx is a fun little car, i have one, i loved driving it when it was registered. -
you have a pm.

The truth of the EA82T and intercoolers
subyrally replied to 4x4_Welder's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
my rx was much improved from the addition of the intercooler, but then again, it was a freaking huge front mount and i did have the td04 turbo on it as well.
