who cares what the car will be worth at resale after putting 6k into it, i doubt that he is doing that just to sell the car, hell, if i sell the rx when i am dont, ill keep the engine and drivetrain from it, no point in doing all the work if its not going to be enjoyed. everyone here needs to go out, take a deep breath of fresh air, and just relax. everyone is getting wwwaaayyy to high strung for my liking, besides, no one is forcing you agree with the theory, if you think its stupid, thats your opinion and your right to feel that way, but please calm down a bit about all this, i sick of seeing people getting flamed on the forums, which is why i dont post much on nasioc anymore. so everyone, go out, smoke a bowl, have a beer, have a cig, take a drive, just chill out. thats all i ask of you, this is supposed to be the more mature and intellagent subaru community, lets get along with each other and quit bashing other peoples' ambitions.

is there anyone in maryland that could help me?
subyrally replied to subyrally's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the lack of the fuel pump priming was the first thing i noticed when it didnt start. i rewired the pump, but still no priming, i jumped the relay for the pump to make sure the pump worked. it ran like a champ. i tied replacing relays with some of the spares i had, no change. i got another ecu, no change. i replaced the coil, plug wires, it has new plugs, fresh gas, clean air filter. it ran perfectly, with the exception of the timing being slightly off, untill the weekend before last. i mighta bumped something out of place when i reinstalled the hood release cable/bracket. i have no idea anymore, my head hurts. by the way, if anyone is wondering, on the weekends, i usually stay home or rather close to it. and this weekend, i will be trying as hard as possible to get the car running so that i can drive it to school next week. that and my impreza is way too close for comfort to the timing belt replacement and wwwaaaaaayyyy over due for its 90k mile service, its at 104xxx miles now and its only a 2000 model. -

the t-belt could be a source of the problem, shouldnt be though, im pretty sure that the belts i put on were new. ill check that anyway, jus to be sure. on the otherhane, how would i go about jumping the coil? also, how could i check to make sure the injectors are working? if anyone is willing to come out here on a weekend (fri-sun) ill gladly break out the grill and treat you to a cook out for your help, and ill prolly find something else to give as well. dont mean to sound cheap or anything, but i am unemploued and broke. but, what the hell, its an excuse for a cookout anyway. might as well have one while the weather is still nice. -

well, i have replaced the coil, wires, and even the ecu, the car still will not start. im running out or ideas. i havent found any broken wires or obvious shorts in the system. i am rather lost on this problem. im about ready to just gut the car and rewire the whole thing, not that i really want to go through that again. i really need help with this. -
the way i see it, anything is possible. this is one of those things. wjm has my support if he ever sttarts this project. i am already working on upgrading my rx, if i can get it to start again. im not going for 300hp, but it wil be fast when i am done.

what you mean that sti came out in '93, it was formed in 1989 when subaru started the legacy rally car. they even had a sti model released in japan in 1990.

the car was running up untill the weekend before last. i drove it to the end of the street and came back and backed into the driveway. didnt touch the fuel lines other than qentally pushing one about 1/2 inch to get the hood release bracket bolted down under the dash. i think that the problem is in the wiring under hte dash, the fuel pump wont run unless i jump it to the hot wire. even when i make the pump run and then ttry to start it, it wont start, it cranks over like a champ, but nothing happens, not even a sputter. i need to figure out if the problem is in the ecu, wiring, or under the hood. i dont have much in the means of diagnostic tools other than my fluke multimeter and my juicy brain. im lost on the diagnostics, im better at fixing things than finding out what is wrong with em. im the type tht thinks up new and exciting things and new ways to do things, but i am srewed when something goes wrong and i dont know where it is. -

howdy, as some of you may know, i am rebuilding my 86 rx. i have hit a snag in my progress, i cant get the car to start anymore, it died last week. i have replaced the ignition coil, plugs, wires, alternator and battery. i also made a new ground for the fuel pump, andchecked all the fusable links. everything checks out, but the engine just wont start. is there any one in central maryland that could possible come out sometime and help to get the rx running??? before the car died i was > < this close to getting it inspected and registered. someone please help me. thanks tim c.

i have been looking into getting a body kit for my rx (if i every get it to start again). i am thinking something that would look simular to the front and rear bumpers on my 2000 2.5rs,
-
same thing happened when i first rebuilt my rx, it had been sitting for about 6 years after it cought fire. i put in another engine and it smoked for a while, till it burned off a bunch of stuffs. didnt seem to hurt it any though. now i have fresh gas in it and am going to run a fuel system cleaning as soon as i get it registered.

more EA82T max out information
subyrally replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
thanks warp, you helped clear that up for me. my friend drives a wrx and swears up and down that if you put on anything larger that 2.5" past the downpipe, the car wont run as well. he says that his beatup old mazda 323(regular 323, not gtx) would stomp the rx into the ground if i used the 3" catback on it. i think that on some points he knows what he is talking about, but others he exagerates and makes things up. -

i know that exhuast is important to the performance of the turbo engine, but i was kinda chewed out for trying to go for 3" catback om my rx, once i get my td04 and intercooler installed. my friend wa saying that no suby does well with three inch pipes after the downpipe. i really dont care what he says, i am using the 3" catback i have for it cause, well, its free. but with the new ,larger turbo and the wrx intercooler and new custom header. will i need to worry about using the three inch catback? i dont think it will be a problem, but i would like a few opinions on the subject. -

subyrally replied to subyrally's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well, i fixed the wiring to the pump, but the car still doesnt start, im not sure if its the coil, plugs, or something under the dash. -
wjm, you have too much free time.
-
where can i find the front lip? notthat i can afford one. also, any idea if there are any body kits for other cars that will fit on the rx?
-
i get all my exhuast work done at meineke. they have good prices and did a nice job on my impreza. and they will willingly do custom and performance work. they are going to be meking the turbo header for my rx when put hte wrx td04 turbo on it.
-
i had a lug break on my impreza, not hard to fix at all. you just get a large hammer and tap it out, there should be a position on the hub where it will go out without getting stuck. then the new one pops right in and is tightened when you torque the lug nut in the rim.
-
i wish i was cool enough for the 5 lug conversion. and i could use the money to do it as well.

good news, the pump works, its an electrical problem in the wiring. i know the ground is meesed up, but i think that there is something under the dash as well. -
hmmm, what you going to do with em after you take it all off? i would love to have that stuffs on my car.
