wow, the rx is fast stock
subyrally replied to subyrally's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ive just seen what it can do in an accident or if used wrong you hit a speed bumb and it could go kaboom, you hit the button an extra shot and the engine could go kaboom. too much risk for my liking, ill stick to taking my chances with the trees in the gravel roads here. -

nitro is for loosers that use it as an excuse for bad tuning decisions. the only accepable reason to use it is when you have done everything possible to your engine and car to get hp and cant do anything else but nitrous. and its also a good way to destroy that engine that youve worked so hard on. -
nope, just read through th owners manual, says nothing about not driving in 4wd hi, the only words of caution about 4wd is that to go from 4wd hi to 4wd lo, you need to be driving slow and use the clutch, also that your gas milage will suffer from 4wd lo. i was reading the fsm today i class and found out that both the front and rear diffs have the exact gear ratios, thus driveline windup isnt an issue here. go me.

wjm, i dont think they will let you drive the sti cause you will prolly just raise the bar for the rest of us. i love the idea of a shoot off, but as in the case of the east caost, its the east coast. when i am done ill be posting numbers and results from the "ghetto sti". it should kcik some mighty something or other. now i just need money to finish it. -
mine is an 86, d/r 5spd. the service manual doesnt say anything about driving in 4wd, nor does the fsm. the only warning is about the lsd in a situation where one wheel is spinning in mud or snow. neither b ook mentioned that driving in 4wd hi would cause any damage.

envious of US subaru owners
subyrally replied to subGSR's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you should come over to the states some time. pretty sure youd get a warm welcome from the suby crowd here. i want twin turbos, i was thinking about doing that on my impreza when i get the legacy turbo block, i think that i could come up with a sick design for it, although, emmissions and inspection would be fun, good thing i dont have an annual inspection, just by annual emmisions testing. -
i want a front lsd. on the note of 4wd, i just go outta manual transmissions class, the lessons on transfercases and diffs were based around trucks, the suby is the oddball in the world of 4wd and awd. but with trucks, 2wd is usually the rear wheels and when you put it into 4wd, the front engage, but the fronts have a lower gear ratio. more to the point, on the rx is it safe to drive on the streets in 4wd in the rx?

you also have to realize that honda civics only have like crap for torque. they dont even have enough torque to get outtat thier own way. on a side note, ive been in a modded Si, nowhere near the accelleration i experianced this morning. -
i just drove my rx up and down the street (with out tags aswell), and wow, it is very quick, even bone stock and full of tools, parts, trash and a floor jack. all of this and the gas in the tank is roughly 6 years old. i cant wait to see how fast it will be when i get the td04 and intercooler put in. its gunna be a moster. hondas beware!!

Hey whats the turbo light mean?
subyrally replied to TheMeatWagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
concentrate on handleing and learning to control your car, then you start improving engine performance. that way, you should be able to get yourself outta most situations caused by extra power. that and you will be a better driver for it. -
also, dont forget to make sure that when you do belts, the #1 cyl is at top dead center of the compression stroke i made this mistake the first time i did belts when i build my rx, i set it to tdc of the exhaust stroke. needless o say, it never started, just backfired a lot.

why does this ring a bell, oh wiat, i just finished this work on my car. i had a hole under the trunk that ,when i cut out the rust, i could fit my fist through. hours or grinding with a dremel (which died as a result), bondo, some aluminum siding left overs, some rivets, self drilling screws and lots and lots of rubber undercoating. needless to say, there arent anymore rust holes that i know of. now i just need to get the line-x or rhino ling spray on liner sprayed under the whould body of the car, the only problem ive come across is that there are some soft spots around the lift points which leaves me using the rear diff and front x-mamber to lift the car. -
ill let you all know the times in a couple of weeks when i get my rx finiished. i just need a few more parts and ill be set.

you guys on the left coast are lucky, they use salt here and in Pa, i think they use a salt and calcium mix the loves to eat cars.

my cousin put three hidden kill switches in his bronco to keep his coworkers from parking it on the other side of the factory he works in. they cant even hot wire it. that is what im thinking of doing with my impreza and rx.

someone should get a empty warehouse and use it for a suby pick-n-pull, keep em inside so that they dont rust any more than they already are. locate the facility somewhere in the middle of the country so that everyone might have a chance to come. and it would also make shipping costs lower for those who cant make it there.

Solo II GLF UPDATE!!
subyrally replied to subusolo2nut's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i need something like that for my rx, i got some pugs with wide tires and now they stick out over an inch from the sides of the fenders. -
the only problem with lqn is that if it gets too cold, you might freeze your fuel before it gets to the chamber. one thing you can do to cool the intake is to bypass the coolant lines that run through the throttle body. i did this on my impreza and havent had any problems with it.

dude, you have too much time on your hands, but your theory is sound.

i need one of those for when i get my td04, ill put it with its own vent or small scoop, maybe do it like all the ricers and have vents on the sides in the fenders. hmmmm, you gave my an idea, owww, my wallet. i just had a brain storm, that explains the burned smell.
