well i plugged them into the old strut and left it in the trunk (after the ride home) i plugged in the sensors too but the compressor wouldn't kick on so i unplugged those and left the airlines plugged in, fronts didn't seem to pick up at all, but it is 0130 here so perhaps i just didn't give it enough time before yelling at the car and going inside lol

so my rear struts wouldnt inflate, so thanks to a good friend i scored some free struts (coil spring) I figured just to make the car drivable for right now id swap out the rears untill i got the fronts and then swap those over too, but now the front is on the ground and i cant get them back up. i just want the thing to drive down the road. but i will say the 5 min ride home was one HELL of a ride, so any ideas

Excessively dirty gas tank?
rpholz replied to jboymechanic's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
rocks and acid, cleaned my tank. there's a write up somewhere i swear it. I WILL FIND IT!! -
im not sure the thought process behind this swap but it looks like the forester bumper has a dip where the grill is and is much longer. the impreza is completely flat at the top and around the wheel has a much more aggresive line, and i doubt the brackets will line up, like at all. so in short, i suppose you could change the brackets but it will look terrible

so i have a phase II EJ251 that i will be swapping into my 89 XT and was wondering since i have it torn down right now if i would see any gains if i get the heads milled down? and what would be the safe amount? i was already planning on taking the flywheel down to a shop to get that resurfaced and lightened which also leads to the question can i use an EJ18 flywheel and what would be the most i could get lightened and still keep it drivable? appreciate any input _Ryan

Adapter and flywheel from SJR and pick up a XT6 clutch Or just search ej swaps are quite common and lots of write ups on it

Switch control boards ?
rpholz replied to oskar_subaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
do you have any sort of open space in the dash? make a panel to fill the hole if not take some sheet metal bend it 90degrees and mount it under the dash. really anywhere you want to put switches/lights is a possibility zzz -
So I threw a fuse in the fwd thing and it seems worse when costing down a hill you can hear the engine acting like something is dragging then letting loose and continues till you get on the gas again of course there is zero torque bind now so I know that problem is with the clutches in the transfer case also when you are at like half throttle it jumps between gears fluid in the trans looks like its new and full. I'm really at a loss on this one I've never had luck with auto trans.

ill try throwing in a fuse tonight but as far as cv axles go I know I have one throwing some grease but seems ok no clicking or anything

89 xt gl fulltime 4wd 4eat trans Seems to be dragging at highway speeds also sounds like the USS Enterprise flying when you are moving I don't have a terrible case of torque bind but there is definatly some and it seems to shake kinda bad around 55mph engine is still running good tires are the same size brand age so I don't really know what could be causing this besides the trans or driveline related mpg have dropped off too. So any suggestions would be appretiated at work right now so those are all the details I can think off my head -Ryan

Does (tire) size really matter???
rpholz replied to Seantheimpaler's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
seen someone grenade their transfer case in a f-150 cause they had street tires up front and and 32's in the rear. why they had that set-up no idea -
why does it need coolant hoses would be my question. or is it like the radiator has a leak and coolant hoses sound better? or are they just crunchy? if so what does the rad look like? and how much coolant is still effectivly flowing through it? anything coolant related makes me question probly more than i should

i usually let it idle for the most part while giving it burst of gas, then blast it down the road just to get out that last little bit.
-
might i suggest condensing all your questions into one post. makes it easier for you to track and to answer all in one. ive always taken the brake booster line off with the car running put my thumb over it so the car doesnt die and adding it little by little till it does die, let it sit then let the smoke show begin!
