  2. so you might have seen that i got a new xt 89 fulltime awd 4eat n/a 29,508miles so i got it running and driving, but i noticed when i make a hard left turn something seems to bind(like low speed, u-turn) now i did notice there is a considerable amount of grease that has left the DOJ(?) on the passenger side axle, do you think this is causing it or something binding in the trans? i'm completely new to awd but not subes, so i was wondering if there might be another cause? trans fluid still looks brand new. is there another dip stick for the front diff?
  3. i don't think any old subaru is common in my area, seeings how between me and dragonfire those are the only 80s models subes i've seen (except for where i used to live, farther south, i knew where every 80's model resided in that town mwhaha!)
  4. rewired the injectors with the pin outs john in ky supplied to me (THANK YOU!!) and it fired right up and ran awsome didnt drive it anywhere because it is on a battery charger since my alt isnt hooked up or anything. so tomorrow i soder the wires and tuck them away and all should be well. but thanks to my buddy (dragonfire) i am now fully aware of some rust issues, albeit small issues but still enough allow a good bit of water into the trunk and a the cab.
  5. I think what I'm going to try doing is running wire around the car straight from the ecu to the injectors and see if they fire if that doesn't work the obviously I have other issues too

  7. crap forgot what order you wrote stuff in... oh well DL's were FWD to my knowledge i believe they lack the rwd guts of the trans and you would need to swap it. sorry if the bolts on your exhaust that you are talking about right off the head, they stripped, it happens, alot. plenty of threads on repairing that. and have you tried releasing the bleeder screw on the caliper? if you have break out that BFH since its already broke:grin:
  8. so i got it running off of starter fluid. t-belts are straightened out. and tensioner are holding. so now onto the wiring, what a effing nightmare.. the injectors were rewired and hacked to crap, does anyone have a pic or something of which wires coming off the ecu are the injector wires and/or a fsm wiring diagram.
  9. oooooooh 10-4 i did try to tread the bolt in without the tensioner there and it caught something but it probly just wasnt enough. i shall try this on sunday(my next day off)
  10. yea, i was thinking of just running the next size up tap to cut new threads and drive a bolt in there, and as far as drilling goes Comcast is nice enough to issue me a 18v dewalt hammer drill so i think i got enough grunt to drill the it out, i just really dont want to go that route cause if it messes up then i got to go even bigger. so i think i shall tap it, and call it a day. EDIT: to murph, pretty sure its got that many miles, everything is in great condition and the pedals, seats, carpet arent worn down enough for it to have more than that, unless a small asian woman drove it. lol
  11. so i recently picked up a 89 XT GL full time all wheel drive, n/a, auto 30,000 original miles. (same car from classified section, "89 XT JAX FL") :banana:and so my XT collection grows! anywhoo. my question is the tensioner pulley for the driver side T-belt has both bolts stripped out, and i can't tell if the threads came out or a heli-coil, now what are my options for this? re-helicoil it? or thread for bigger bolt. and we won't get into the hack job of some one re-wiring the injectors:mad: i don't even understand what they were trying to accomplish

  13. the EJ18 is out of a 96 impreza. and the reson my discription is vague is because i only heard it run for a short period of time, over a week ago. so i pretty much dont remember know. and i dont really want to walk away because i have it, its mine and i got it for so cheap.
  14. so i picked up the motor today, overall very pleased with it. now the real question here is, the dude started it up and imediatly off the bat it had this loud knock. (idc its a 150 bucks) so my question here is something that loud and right off the bat could it be lifters or a rod. and is there any simple way to tell without splitting the case?
  15. so i have one go for it on here and a thumbs up from my old man. looks like i'm ej'ing the XT. now anyone know of a place to find an adapter plate on the east coast?
  16. well here is the thing. i cannot get a whole car because i have absolutely no where at all to put it. and the closest relative is a 100 miles away so i cant store it there. in fact im not really sure where i will work on my car.. but i do know i want to upgrade. now i did find a guy that will give me a EJ18 w/accesories, ECU, wiring for 150 bucks. it needs some work, but 150$ is a 150$ i'm not looking for loads of power. just fun. and cheap. i'm not even sure how to haul the dang motor. think itll fit in the trunk of a chevy aveo? or the xt?

  20. So here in sunny florida i can not find a freaking OBD1 EJ22 for the life of me and if i do they want like 1.6million bucks for it. SO! i have found a running EJ18 with ECU and wiring harness for 500 bucks if i pull it myself(like i want to sit in some dudes yard and yank his motor for him:-\) so what do you think? what are some things superior of the EJ22 over the 18? is it worth it? or should i just hold out till my wallet gets a little fatter? or if i can talk him down to like... hmm 300bucks should i take it? btw it would be going in my 86 XT-DL which also needs the AWD components (I figured if i go EJ its going AWD too)

  22. indeed! my 86 XT DL haaasssss no back seat, no passenger outside mirror, no power locks, windows, steering, no turbo, 2wd but its got A/C!
  23. so i went over all the grounds cleaned everything and tada it started right up. and on the test drive it ran better than ever. i guess it was a problem since day one. thank you so much guys. but here's the catch i've decided to not go for the impreza(rather the bank decided for me) and have set upon the ej22 route. so the question now is, anyone know of a ej22 in the north florida south georgia region?
  24. well i did check the fusable links on the fender well and they tested out good. (like .3 ohms resistence for you technical people) so i guess tomorrow i will throw a charger on it to see if it fires up on that. and give all the connections a look over. i just find it odd for it to just crap out like that ya know?
  25. So the XT is throwing a fit. (86 XT DL) I drove the car last night around 9pm no issues, actualy running great, so i go to work today in the work van and when i get home at 5pm i was gunna take it for a spin. get in the car, turn the key and nothing just a click. so i check the battery and i have 12.4v at the terminals, i go ok maybe its a fluke, nope, i get in the car and now i have no dash lights after trying to turn it over again, so as i sit and wonder whats going on, the radio starts freaking out, so i turn the car off and back on, now i have dash lights but they stay on for a min then start flickering, go off and come back on, and will repeat this untill you pull the key. so i have no idea, there has been no rain, nothing to cause this issue. so idk guys, hoping you could help me out. on a good note, buddy of mine is selling me his 01 impreza rs for 3500 with a BUNCH of sti goodies on it, maybe the XT caught wind of this and is now pissed. lol thanks for any imput -Ryan
