rpholz replied to creswellhick's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
is it 4wd? if so take the drivetrain and replace it with toyota solid axles and just send me the junk bits that are now useless:grin: -
my pops had an 03 WRX, i want one SOOOOOO bad, but no credit and the bank wont give me a loan SO! im in search of a wagon/loyal/hatch that i can lift but unfortunatly here in florida there are NOOOOOOOOOO subys at least ea82 or 90's models, they're all brand new super expensive subes

XT suspension conversion and shifter bushing?
rpholz replied to Speed Kills's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
+1 on the SubaruXT.com advise and indeed definatly some differences on the XT6 from the XT i own an XT DL myself exact oposite of your car (base model) the shifter bushings- i used a washer on the connection on the bottom of the shifter itself.. took most of the play out. *edit- so i take it you bought/definatly going to buy the car? and as far as this forum goes. search your question first, if no solid results then post. just a suggestion. -

i'm thinking coil. as its running the coil overheats and fails and when it sits it has time to cool down and work again. just my opinion. -
oh my no... lol this is my daily driver and would prefer to go without a sound ordnance ticket. (already have one of those from my old honda, "but officer the muffler REALLY did fall off!!!")

So i was thinking of redoing the exhaust on my 86 XT (DL FTW!!) and was wondering what some of you guys experience with n/a exhaust is and what gave the best results. and of course some of that good ol' suby rumble. i was almost thinking header, y pipe, no cat, glasspack of some sort and turndown before the rear end. and stock exhaust dia. to keep some sorta back pressure. sooooo ideas? yes please. thank you.

Who's driving that yellow coupe in NJ?
rpholz replied to '84 Flat-Four's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
dude i feel the same way. there is this old couple in Deland, FL with a RIDICULOUSLY clean GL wagon. I just want to wave them down and give that old man a hug for keeping it so nice. -
So, I currently own a 86 XT and have a steady job now (thank god) and am going to the bank tomorrow to hopefully be approved on a loan for a new car. here's my question. I am looking for a 02' 03' WRX and was wondering what are somethings i should look for. I would really hate to be paying monthly for a broke down WRX. I work at tire kingdom and am use to doing a 22 point inspection so i am looking for specifics. things that will either gimme big headaches or leave me stranded. thanks so much guys.

rpholz replied to SoobieDoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i feel ya. i only had to put it together once but i swear i took the belt on and off 20 times because i swore it was off. lol guess im just too much of a perfectionist. -
is there anyway to tell if i grab a junkyard axle if its good or not?
-
check and check. i just did the wheel bearings in the front end and i made sure everything was good

any help would be greatly appretiated. so i drive a 86 xt mpfi ea82 5spd fwd 132xxx:banana: the car sat for four years before i got it but i have put like 9000 miles on it since so the problem: I have this noise coming from the front end its only when turning under power or with hard acceleration from a standstill. it makes the same sound as if my tire was flat and bumping along the road. it doesnt really seem side specific or anything. cv axles seem alright and idk if its the dif or what. o! also when you shift hard it sounds like the dang engine is falling out (not sure if its related but never know) thanks guys ryan

ok so i finaly got fed up with all the slop in my shifter so i started to investigate. the problem seems to be right out of the trans. the little bracet that looks like a T off the shifter rod. ok now my question is (and yes i have tried searching!) this bracet moves waaaaaaaay too much on the shifter rod. and there is a small hole in which it looks like a very small screw goes. felt along the top of it and it felt like there was a hole there too with a screw in it. so does one go there and if so what size is it (thread pitch and such) also the braket that attaches to it has an angled side off of it that looks like a spring goes to it if so again who what when where wtf? o yea its an 86 XT DL mpfi 5 speed fwd blue in color thanks guys!
