  1. ooo ok. see i live in florida so i would never think of that lol. thanks!
  2. just out of simply curiousity.... why would you want to heat up a throttle body? totaly makes a cold air intake kinda uselss no?
  3. as far as a bypass Advance Auto parts (or whatever it may be in your location) sells this neat little relay for like 15 bucks and you wire it in to a 12v constant 12v switched(i left this on constant in my case, laziness) a ground and a probe that goes in the radiator as a sensor. then you just let the car warm up and turn a dial until the fan comes on. really reliable and practicle. just replaced the clutch fan in my xt with a a/c fan out of the junk yard and used this set up. never had a problem with heat whats so ever. ill get pics, looks too cool lol good luck!
  4. hey i really apretiate it. sucks, the more and more i looked at it the more i wanted it! lol. who knows maybe the guy wont be able to sell it and ill get it done the road some time. only time will tell....
  5. sounds too me like the distributor isnt advancing as the rpms go up. i dont think that year has a vacume advance so im not quite sure how its controled (lol im too used to chevys) or bad fuel supply. coincedence? id ill run it by mechanic buddy in the morning. see what he says. just remember air.fuel.spark = boom gotta be one.
  6. now that you have the timing belts correct is the distributor timing correct as well throw a timing light on it and check. did you possibly pick up some bad gas? these motors are non interfence so you shouldnt of bent a valve.... right? also make sure you check that keyway on the crank! when stuff flys off you can never tell what got thrown off with it.
  7. hey not a bad job straightening out. as for the lip that looks like it has some serious issues. lol did you bondo it or do it the old school way with lead? very cool find.
  8. very very cool. do you have pics? and i will think about that but i think i might stick with the FI but hey you never know.
  9. yea i was thinking of just having some fun with this ea motor before i make the plunge into a ej swap, now this "spider intake" ive heard alot about it but never any hard facts or even where to find one (ie what year, car etc)and what the differences are. but if i get another set of heads, junk yard run!! lol i can totaly port and polish and do whatever to them. just seeing where i can take this motor, since everyone says its not worth it totaly makes me want to try hard to do something.
  10. so i was reading up on people cutting out air boxes for better performance and continued to see that the intake is just too restrictive for any improvements. now with that in mind, if i go to the junk yard and grab a mpfi intake (seeing how mine is a non tubo mpfi ea82) and mod it, quite extensivly, do you think i can see a big improvements or are the heads just too restrictive? maaaaaybe ill even try to fit like a chevrolet TB on there.. maybe im just thinking too big?
  11. wow those wheels really pop now. great job. lol at the exhaust hanger, mine was some red 12g wire for a while. hey did the air filter and coil make any difference? been considering upgrading them but not sure if it would make any improvements
  12. in my 86 xt mpfi the ac is to the left of the alt much like the second pic. so what loyale said makes sense. but i wonder if the lack of p/s on my xt has anything to do with it?
  13. ooooooooh ten four. well than i am no help lol
  14. year? model? engine? i suggest plenty of PBblaster next time. i dont even think of touching bolts on my car without it. and from your pic it looks like an xt so i'll check out mine in the morning to try to give you direction on the alt problem. but there is always a solution to a problem. may not be easy but anything can be fixed.
  15. Thanks or all the info. unfortunatly due to some family issues (which i dont think anyone cares to hear of more hardship in these times) i wont be able to get it. but i apretiate all the advice and if things get better and i find another i will definatly jump on it.
  16. what motor is in your elky? any sbc from that era i usualy scrap the quadrajunk, block off the egr and scrap the comp. throw in some cheap sunpro guages and no worries lol! very glad you got it running, wish i read this sooner, it definatly sounded like timing. got an xt myself very neat cars! and as far as clearing the codes not really sure, know the green connectors in the trunk will throw it in "d mode"(i think?) and i believe that's what you connect when you time it. but hey, if disconnecting the battery for 15 min in my dads 03 J-spec STI works, should work for an old suby!
  17. lol. agreed. try getting exhaust manifold gaskets for an ea82 you'll end up with the muffler gaskets, then the donuts for the cat then.... MAYBE after a week of agueing with the dumb*** behind the counter you might get them. just ordered some timing belts. im gunna be pissed if i pull my motor apart and realize at the last minute they're the wrong ones... o the joys of owning a suby!!
  18. thanks for the info!! but just out of curiosity why wouldnt it make a good daily driver? btw here is the posting.. of course it is on craigslist! http://orlando.craigslist.org/cto/1072977041.html
  19. i have a 86 xt mpfi fwd 5spd, me and a couple buddies of mine are planning a trip from orland fl to all over california. now i know i should just go ahead and change the timing belts and oil but what else should i do before i take the trip? btw the car has a new fuel pump, filter, spark plugs, wires, tires and a freshly cleaned tank. thanks -ryan. OH!!! and if anyone has any suggestions as to where to go in cali letme know. or a fellow suby enthusiast that i could sit around and BS with for a while lol.
  20. i own a 86 xt and absolutly love it! now my question is i found a 1970 360 for 500 obo and was wondering whats with these little cars? are they reliable at all? will it be a money pit? top speed? any info would be aprettiated. altho i think 500 is a little excessive seeing how i bought my xt for 300 and have ac. runs great:banana:, new tires, perfect paint and interior(minus the missing back seat)
  21. hey how are you doing there? just wanted to comment on your race wagon, verrrrrrry cool. and the photo of the whole coil and strut blown out the side of the car is rediculous. lol

  22. dude, youve gotta cut those stacks down a bit. lol nice finds tho. ugh i've gotta get my hands on a brat!!
  23. aw man! you beat me to the punch! as soon as i saw it i was like "ive deffinatly seen that car on youtube somewhere"
  24. nice find! ever since i got my xt my friend has to have a suby now! and here in florida i dont even bother in cars without titles. its such a pain to get one. you have to file for lost title and have it sent to the the last or original owner who registered it and have them sign it then give it to you to register it, and at any point in that line of people it is totaly legal for the registerd owner to go "no, give me my car back"
  25. could it be your fuel pump wiring is faulty? i had to rewire my xt. not sure if this is it but could be a place to check?
