Hey guys! Currently acquiring a RS from my coworker, it came in the shop with a broken belt and he had the cash first, however he's given up after a persistent misfire. car is a 05 RS with ej253 and a manual trans, recent repairs include (history unkown): rebuilt engine, great leakdown/compression driverside head is non egr(more on that in a minute) new: plugs, wires, fuel pump, injectors, front o2, battery, ACT flywheel/clutch, motor mounts, yada yada i've personally swapped, cam/crank sensors, cleaned throttle body, tried spare map sensor/maf, extra grounds, no vacuum leaks. everything appears to be operating correctly. however from an idle if you stab the throttle it will slightly miss and clear up, worst when cold but still there when hot, almost unnoticeable when driving, car is very responsive and quick, revs through the gears fine. just has this slight miss. If you ease in the throttle its fine, and always returns and idles fine. It seems that its loading up with fuel because if you make it miss several times, turn it off and pull the plugs they are wet, doesn't throw codes and if it does its never the same ie:Misfire 1,2,3,4 never the same and never multiples. I'm starting to think either it has a dieing throttle body or the lack of egr is the problem, the codes are turned off via RomRaider but don't know the perimeters for EGR to try to add additional air, I know off throttle around 55-60mph will open the egr but do they also open when you stab the throttle from idle? do I just need to tune out the tip in enrichment? i've gone through everything I can think of so far and was hoping for some more suggestions. Thanks link to video of the problem, sorry i don't know how to embed it,

2 YEARS!!!!???? i've had this car for two years and have accomplished nothing....... meh, so the car is no longer a 88 RX, found quite a bit of rust and well.... the front clip is now 88 and the rest 89.... ill upload pics later. Current plans: RWD! REAR MOUNT RADIATOR! HALTECH ELITE! FRONT MOUNT! car is a complete shell right now, i've ditched everything, i don't intend on putting an interior back in it. or a dash really. simple stack tach and vdo coolant temp, the elite has engine protection options and will use that if something gets too hot or whatever, the rwd? well, diffs are expensive and i have no center diff options, so rwd, predicable and simple the rear mount radiator? meh, moar cooling moar space front mount you say? well theres more room for activities with no rad! reverse mount spyder intake ftw will be back on this car like mad. currently sprucing up a motorcycle to flip and have the $$$ to accomplish all this

Not quite exactly. It was like 75ish hp and 80 some odd tw. So a bit less of a gain but certainly a big one. Went with a 251 block, brand new coated 253 pistons, rods were. . Eh some laying around. No telling from what. Acl bearings etc. it certainly makes good power and has supporting mods to help. Plan on finding ej25d injectors and a 98 2.5rs ecu to see where that puts me As far as looks on the legacy, my remark was more toward the interior and exterior look great, the rest, meh as close to stock would be nice, but it is my profession on building clean cars, this would certainly be within the realm of what I've previously done.

What I need/want is a clean DD. This legacy looks like it's straight off the show room Why swap the engine? Easy, more horsetorques, 2.2 are miserably slow and this is atleast entertaining. I mean all things considered I could have the mechanical swap done in under a day with some help. The electrical is not concerning as this would honestly be the least labor intensive of harness swaps I've done.. and honestly most of the pins look to be the same so I may just add a secondary harness over top the factory for things I'd like to add. Pretty straightforward. I'm also not done with the motor in the wagon, I want to see more power out of it via some headwork, cams, ecu and injector changes, I really want to see how far a frankenmotor can go within a reasonable budget. So far the jump from 70hp/80tq to 114/134 on our mustang dyno has been really rewarding and would like to see 130/150 someday

Hello! looking for someone with a bit more experience than my own. I'm looking to pick up a 91 Legacy with a bad trans, I was set on turning it into a rally car, problem is its absolutely georgous and would be a crime to race it, SO! My question is I currently own a 97 Impreza L 383k on the clock, perfect rally car. what troubles will i encounter with a drivetrain swap? two cars are as listed: 91 Legacy auto/2.2/awd 97 Impreza 5spd/awd/frankenmotor my plan is to swap Engine, trans, shifter, rear end(4.11 final drive) pedal box. I'd really like to do a partial harness swap to keep obd2. id also like to swap over the 2.5rs brakes. I'm also aware i will need the trans crossmember. will my driveshaft work or do i need a manual legacy driveshaft? will the pedal box carry over? are the legacy rear axles roll pin or stub style? will the brakes carry over? id assume yes but want to be sure. will the impreza seats bolt in as my RA seats would look fantastic in there. the Impreza on the otherhand is getting a 04 wrx harness, 2L turbo, 4/2 pot wrx tr brakes, 4.44 trans, cage, yada yada appretiate the advise as I need to make this swap as smooth as possible

Subaru Brat ea82 turbo bastard project
rpholz replied to cookiemonster131's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Oh cool! Yea Jimmie is an awsome individual. I had talked about doing some work for him in trade for a brat but he didn't want to let one go. Although he is still trying to have me come work for him. -

Holy crap. Salisbury?!!! I'm in concord! Hit up higgins automotive for spare parts. I don't know that brat in particular but know enough to identify what's been done. Looks pretty well sorted at the moment. Let me know if you ever need a hand. I actually will be up that way Saturday saving an AE86. -
It's fuel injection, Tach works, altho I do not know if the signal reaches the ecu. Fuel pump does run. And my n/a vs turbo MAF question comes from the ea82 flapper mafs where it took me forever to find a proper non turbo MAF and yes, there was a difference
-
Well, my thought is the EA power steering pump sucks. I've looked into swapping to a ej style pump but the bracket is so far off it would take too many hours to make it all work. So if the manual rack works out well in an auto-x or hillclimb situation I'll run that as I have one I pulled from my XT DL.
-
So my boss aquired a 83 brat. Won't start and run, it will rev up as soon as you touch the key but die immediately. I've confirmed fuel pressure, spark, timing and firing order I'm kinda leaning towards the MAF. Is there a way to test it and would the NA MAF be close to the turbo MAF? Thanks

Interested in seeing how you like the manual steering

As for solid lifters, I just picked up a mazda b2300 and in my searching I found solid lifter conversions for the ford 2.3l. It looks very close to our ea stuff. I have a set of heads laying around and plan on ordering a set it at the very least welding a stock lifter for mock up.

With a bend like that I wouldn't be surprised if you lost power

I've got some 13" rims that I think are slightly wider and way more offset than factory, they a fit 205/60/13 pretty well on my old XT. And Nico, yea that snap on is pretty awsome. The JICs idk yet, I have zero miles on that setup. They are for a 08 WRX and were free. So we'll see. Honestly I want a set if FEALs, they are reasonably priced and freaking awsome.
-
Trying to get the manifold porting done and messing with the linkage so hopefully I can finalize the engine harness. With some luck JWX will be coming up and hammer away at the car with me. I'd like to see it at the Zmax autoX May 3rd.

It works pretty well and cost 32 bucks

Nico, I had 5 mins so here's some quick shots for ya. I'll probably go with a taller tire, these are 224/45/15 Also, I bought some kartboy race bushings for a GD and just kinda crammed them all in there, what rear end clunk?
