A bit of a puzzle: 1988 Gl-Wagon problems
rpholz replied to Lvl50Hornist's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
to add more on my post. To check the crank angle sensor do as follows. with the battery hooked up and IGN on look at the plug to the distributor take a volt ohm meter and put the ground in the black/red wire place the positive probe to the black wire and spin the engine you should see the voltage rise and fall as the motor turns (not 12v but more around 4-5v) repeat for the white wire, you should see the same result, if you do then the ECM is getting the signal for spark and fuel to happen as far as checking coil windings: with the coil wires off and using a volt ohm meter again, i'd type it but this page has pictures that would better explain http://www.international-auto.com/fiat-lancia-electrical-system/how-to-test-an-ignition-coil.cfm i would definatly take a look at the ingitor wire from the ECM, again looking straight down at the coil, there is a plug underneath it facing the front of the car. the wire to the right (driver side) if it's grounded there will be no spark. check for cracks, breaks, anything that could be causing a short with that wire -

Checking to see if the CAS is functioning is fairly simple. Also checking resistance between coil windings would be a good idea as well -
Sooooo, currently relocating to NC, prolly won't get back to this until I move the car up. On the plus side my new job has a dyno.

Wow, sorry for the poor grammar, long day, hope that makes sense -

Igniter is responsible for power to the coil. It's attached at the bottome of the coil bracket. I don't remember the Pinout as I'm 400miles from home but I do remember when looking at the igniter standing at the driver side fender, the plug coming from the front of the car has two wires, the one to the right is power, left is signal from ecu, there is also a round plug with a 2 inch lead to the igniter, you should also so 12v on one of those connections -
Could it be the under torqued intake bolts that are your intake leak?
-
I'm curious on these MLS gaskets. TimeCerts should allow you to torque headbolts to desired lbs I believe I tightened mine down to 56lbs-ish without touching a thing. Still sorting out the haltech system before any street time, I think my biggest challenge is 550cc injectors were a tad too big, but with a TD04 and AWIC I should be able to put down good numbers Will let you know the outcome.

Thanks Gary, Although I'm trying to save money untill I find a job again. Or unemployment finally starts paying.

Rain finally stopped. Made some headway on the car then realized, I forgot my laptop at home! Doh!

That metal pipe uses a large o-ring to seal it. Not sure of the part number or if the seals are still available. So large amounts of sealant are usually the answer

I love it, my problems aren't stemming from the ecu, just the fact the car has been sitting for 6 years. Plus I didn't change one thing at a time, I changed EVERYTHING at once. Anywho, the software is super easy to use, tech support is available by phone or email (they are pretty quick on email) the whole setup is fairly easy. I bought the ECM (sprint 500) 8ft wiring harness, intake temp sensor and coolant temp sensor for just under a grand I'm defiantly more pleased than if I took the MS route.

Got the ECM and wideband controller hidden away
-
meh, the tires and coilovers where
-
ej257, 20g turbo, 6 spd trans with DCCD, coilovers and 245 series tire. dooooooo it.
-
Ohhhhhh my god that's bright
-
Resistors young patawon
-
I did the same thing in the DL, waaaaay too bright at night
-
Oh, yea For some reason I didn't think the intake you posted was the new one,lol yea your good to go. I was just stating standard MPFI vs turbo intake
-
Only differences I can recall is the turbo coolant line
-
Got it to smooth out. I need to buy an o2 bung and move it closer to the turbo. Ill button up other things like the shifter bushings and brakes while I wait on that
-
Having some off idle stumbles but 1500 up starts to smooth out quite a bit. just have to play with timing and fuel maps. its getting there. very hard to tune at the moment as the O2 doesn't seem to be reading anything.
