  1. ~~finsihed a 2.2 swap into a 99 obl that had a 2.5 , 2.2 was out of 95 legacy ran great no codes in the 95 , put it into the 99 smoked at first ?? don't know why but quit then threw a cel , BUT no code , reset drove some more threw CEL again no code, engine also hesitates from a stop and seems underpowered with heavy accel. did not do that in the 95, had underpowering prob with orig 2.5 but it blew blue smoke after 1000 miles haven't driven a good running 99 so not sure what feels like normal accel, or going up hillls any ideas on a cel with no code and underpower situation ??
  2. not really sure why this works , but push the hand in towards the car , seems to pull out over time and just lifting up won't work , grap ahold of outer part and push in on the handle part with your thumbs , always works for me lasts a couple of months then sticks and have to do it again but an easy fix
  3. Thanks to a tip from a a usmb member I found a 2.5 it's been sitting .. removed for 2 yrs , how do I prime the oil pump on this so I can prelube the engine, know it must have some rust and need this one to work , only has 50 k on it any Sug???

Thanks to all who replied , need help ej25 timing , checked resistance on plud wires , new ( o'riley house brand, plugs new when did rebuild less than 500 miles ago).. got blue smoke now, so rings shot ?? got so much time & $$ in this baby .. don't know whether to give up and take my losses or TRY ??? can't locate a EJ25 junk yard engine within 500 mile for less than 1000 $ In Indpls IN , if anybody has any leads let me know , ideas ?? Louisville, KY has a 96 Legacy but that's a dice roll as to whether it's a EJ25 or a 2.2 and if it's still there, of course they won't tell you anybody in Louisville going to Pic a part and want to take a look ?? Yes using dotsset back cam timing one mark , ( possible sparking noise and hash marks, new plugs & wires (plat plugs when did rebuild) SO close but yet so far, had the thing milled to spec put in the special new and improved hg and , but lacked any pickup wires I've gotten different opinions on whether the 2.2 swap will play well with the computer , know it will fit run etc but .. will it be RIGHT and do you need to replace computer ?? Guess I 'm a glutton for punishment picked up a 97 OBL ..with EJ25, ( needs a engine rebuild, got it from kid who forgot to put oil in, runs but knocks bad, & needs a radio ...kid LOST it ?) $1000 OBO , SO if you have any leads on 1 EJ25 either need 2 Ej25s or a buyer for the 97 ,guess i need 2 ... or a straightjacket (ha..) :banghead: thanks dwitsman

  6. did timing by the book , did not swap cams all marks line up , etc
  7. need help with 99 obl ej25, repl hg after reass and driving seemed underpowered , thought it might be timing issue , so checked marks , cam mark off slightly to left -1 tooth , redid timing belt still off -1 to right , ran worse , so put back to orig -1 to left all other marks ok ran like crap even after putting back , though maybe miss diag and checked timing rapid fire pulse on 1 , 3 ok intermitted spark on 2 & 4, CHANGED OUT COIL PACK still runs like crap smokes , same timing probs no power did moving timing foul plugs ? how do you do compression ck when so deeply recessed ? any tips on changing plugs other than jacking up engine ? what other things have i missed with orig prob of underpower( no accl power, no pwer going up hills , floor and tops out at 30 mph ? ) this car is driving me crazy any help appreciated .
  8. purchased a 99 OBL that was DOA , head gasket -- pulled engine did hg job with felpro mls , heads had 2000th warpage , presssure tested and alumafluxed.Head surface polished finish ( Knowthe prob assoc with head surf being too rough) the multi step process of torquing and angle degree tighting was meticulious , POSITIVE burping was done , almost foamy mini bubbles seen in radiator still. previous owner had removed therm when purchased doa SOL. pan tested therm , yes we checked the fans 1stthing seems to regulate then bam over heats, Burped and reburped, if it is burping would it show intermittet like this ?? Drilled 1/4 hole in therm to eliminate bubble build up in h20 pump took longer to overheat than earlier but same symptoms. If it is HG issue since already did HG etc and did not fix is weakness in cooling or engine ?? Usually heads warp, does block warp in this case in the ej25d three ?? bad therm ?? probably not but did not use oem ( see above mod) burped yes HG job oem vs felpro ?? prob ??
  9. Most of the time, these are picked up for $500-$1500 depending on condition and area of the country.

     

    Used 95 2.2 engines will bolt right in, you need the one with the EGR valve from a 95 with an automatic. I just got a low mile engine from a yard I found on http://www.car-part.com for $300 + 200 shipping to CO.

     

    Not to say the car is not worth what your asking, but you will have to find the right buyer. Larry

Just got in to the heart of the prob of 98 SOL HG , got car cheap know why, engine is toast, sparkplug wires Melted:confused: BAD news, ??? for the EJ25D What is the best ej22 to swap with ie what model's year cars should i be looking at PAPto make this painful experience less painful and less expensive !! HELP

    finally got it out, its toast:( sparkplug wires melted....)

    that sucker had gotten HOT !!! before we got it and the sack o bull "oh it just overheated story:, IT"S FUBARD 1. what is a easy swap for this model , most reliable of swaps ?

    easiest to locate and reasonable priced ?

     

    2.Know of any one wanting to purchase a pristine 98 OBL leather seats , no rust

    PERFECT condtion ( that neeeds an engine,) Engline is out of car your work is half done

    you can even have the old one for core $2500.00
