  1. I always thought the EJ25D headbolts are longer? I know if you put EJ25D heads on a Ej22 motor you have to use the EJ25D head bolts because the Ej22 bolts are too short from what I hear.
  2. Still waiting to go and get the engine.. if I get it Monday it's going to be friken cold out swapping the motor.. like 37F however most yards close at 12 Pm on weekends so that's not going to work out with my friend taking me. I'm pretty sure I have everything I could need right now waiting.. I have the cosmetic EJ22t turbo gaskets so they can mate with the EJ25d heads, new waterpump (one on car only has maybe 60K on it) new oil pump seal since I'm not transferring the pump it's self. 2 bottles of Rotella T6 2 bottles of coolant new intake manifold gaskets new oil filter from what I understand, the coolant pipes have to be transferred over to the EJ22 and the headbolts from the EJ25 have to be used on the EJ22
  3. I have a question.. each time I pull my motor I got what looks like black grease all on the engine crossmember, does the front seal only leak when the engine is running? The funny thing is when pulling the motor I can't detect anything.. and I noticed the same leak pattern on the stock and replacement transmission. Also I haven't touched the front seal, replacement transmission had 85K on it.
  4. mine was internal in the switch where the bulb base plugs in, a guess a piece broke off and I saw it touching
  5. Wow good timing, somehow my glove box light did the same thing to me one morning as well! I went to work, turned on the lights and I heard a crackle sound and then next thing I know my dash lights went out.. it sucks because I drive to work at 3:30 AM.. and it seems the glove box light has no part number? I looked at it and still can't figure out how it went wrong but it seems a piece of metal might of bridged between the two connections.
  6. Well it's listed on carparts, I remember once I went to a place and they did not have in the listing they had a core price, but I got them to wave it because I rushed like a madman to get to the place before it closed.
  7. a ej22 that has say like 100K or 174K for $275 is that a fair price? the prices are all over with the highest being $800 for one with 125K
  8. I guess you haven't been here long enough.. these are the replacement head gaskets.. it's been almost like 3 years since I last did it.. I suspect the rod bearings was enough to cause the misfire codes and wear whatever part out of spec.. not that I really care. I'm switching to a Ej22 with my ej25d heads on the motor because I'm planning for something in the early spring.. I highty doubt the block can be saved.
  9. Sounds like my Ej25D with rod knock.. in my case the oil pressure light did not come on.. not sure if the pump gave up or it sucked up air.. by the time the light comes on it's pretty much at 0 PSI.. looking forward to the teardown to see how bad things got.. going to put a EJ22 in but prices are all over the place.. what idiot would pay $800 for a EJ22 with 122K on it???
  10. I still pull a vacuum on my system, then during the fill (going by the service manual here) I invert the can and fill the high side first, it fills the compressor with the R134a and it will turn the compressor a bit.. then charge the rest valve side up on the low side.. and don't fill the high side at all with the car running and the A/C on. it's been almost 3 years now, but I had a mishap late last year.. went to drill a hole for a external temp sensor and the drill slipped and hit my condenser but lucky for me it ended up hitting the fins and not the line, I have a little pressure drop but not from that area but from the o-rings, I haven't replaced those yet since I got the car.
  11. Back when I did the head gaskets two years ago I took off the oil pump and replaced the little O-ring behind it, I have permatex anaerobic gasket maker. I'm not sure anyone who would want to try to put the seal in before you put the pump on.. that's crazy..
  12. I know how to remove it and remove the pump. . I was just wondering about the yard motor. . I rather just replace it than be sorry later
  13. About to do this next week, if i remember right just the coolant pipes and head bolts I need to switch over to the ej22e right?
  14. When my timing jumped (about 11-13 teeth) it ended up being valve to valve damage.. however at least two intake valves I think it was is maybe about 1 mm bent
  15. soldering is really easy.. if you don't own wire strippers it's easy just match the color wires up strip the wires and use heat shrink tubing.. tin the wires and solder the two together.. let the wire cool then slide the heat shrink tubing over the area you connected and heat it so the tubing shrinks down over it.
  16. Has anyone ever had a oil pump fail? For those that put a Ej22 in did you bother to replace the front crank seal? I'm not sure it's possible to get the seal off with out messing it up. Not sure if I want to put a oil pump on that spun the bearings with 256K on it. I ended up just ordering the seal online from the dealer it was $6.38
  17. I may try and turbo the ej25d since I will be switching to a ej22e with 25d DOHC heads I have an extra set of heads here so it's not like I'm in a rush or anything.. nice to know about the 2.2 crank in the Ej25d about how low does it drop the compression? The ej25D cylinder supports are a little lacking in support forcing more air in.
  18. So now that my Ej25D spun bearings and most likey crank shaft is no good, which other crankshafts fit? I was thinking about this is a good time to learn on how to tear down the block, on my spare time.. Also having said that with all the bad press about the bearings on the EJ25D what makes them so bad (besides say overheating) and what makes the EJ22 or later engines have better crank bearings? It seems resurfaced crankshafts need oversized bearings which I guess is the norm? One more thing the Ej25D what is the weight of the shortblock with the crank and pistons and oil pan still installed?
  19. I will have help, I just kept hearing at least 5 different weights.. and it figures as soon as I put the engine lift back in storage I gotta go about 8 miles to go get it.
  20. Well I'm 126lbs I've moved two 8D batteries (not at the same time!) which are 145 lbs each over 2,000 Ft i got myself a dolly the very next day! That was the hardest dead lift ever!
  21. Around 285-300lbs dry? For some reason that sounds a little overweight but I figure I will ask here first.
  22. Died at 258,226 after engine swap we will live on!
