So as you might know I got my replacement used 98 Forester transmission yesterday with 86K on it I was wondering because near the rear near the tail housing is a dark spot I was curious are the common leak points at the top assess plate and the rear tail housing? Not a good picture but here http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=109154&highlight=manual+transmission+leak kinda answered here but I was wondering if I use some anaerobic can I do away with the Subaru gaskets? and the shifter shaft seal looks like it presses in from the inside of the case right?

JUST got home... ahhh my back... Ok so the story was I wanted to check some prices out with places that had pretty low mileage.. the one I found in MA in Chicopee for $350 they ended up not having any MT transmission at all but I saw a single auto one.. The guy was pretty nice me and him were climbing the racks and all So it was a wasted trip.. so I was like screw it I'm going to drive to the place that had the 86K tranny for $395 the car part place said 50 miles from Chicopee but that was BS lol it ended up being more like 80.. So my one way trip was 189 miles. So I called this place to make sure they had it and they did and it was already pulled, no core price and 90 day warranty. So by the time I got to the place it was like 4:40 PM and I was overhearing the guys saying they closed at 5 PM.. I would of been SUPER pissed because I guess the Google nav took me all back state roads which took forward (speed limit 45MPH) Anyways that other place was in New-Ipswich, NH The guy was cool and loaded it for me.. So I just got home and loaded it in the Outback man for 125 Lbs (I weigh 125 too!) It feels pretty light and it's not awkward to handle like someone else said. crazy man with traffic and all I left around 11:50 AM and got back home at 9:30 PM

lol so I've been calling around and I called this place in CT anyways it was $250 + tax and I asked the for how many miles it has and he says "it does not really matter as long as it was not abused" Yeah ok... I rather drive to another sate to buy then to deal with that. I found one in MA 92K good price so I'm about to head out now to go get it.

I know this topic is old but so that kartboy rear shifter bushing fits a 97 outback as well right? I can't see why not.. I just ask because I saw the review on the kartboy website with a person with a 2.5 RS who said it supported his but he cross threaded his bolt or something like that. It's been since 2005 since I drove a new Subaru (XT at that) it's going to be nice to feel nicer shifts, how hard is it to get to the rear bushing? Would it be better to take the stay rod out? I can't picture how you can take that bushing out without having to remove it.

Put on the spare today and drove around a large island lot it's fine but once you start to move the car with the wheels turned it will bind and it binds from just starting. lucky for me when I move the car it's a easy shot to get where I need to go (about 1 mile) anyways one thing that had me curious it looks like you can't fit a full sized spare in the rear? My tires I'm going to run in the summer are 16's the stock tire fits in the rear but the cover wont close down to cover the tire.

Rest of the car is holding up fine minus the transmission but I knew that like 20K ago As for the noise in the cabin.. my shifter rattles while driving and plus I did not have 5th gear so driving my car on the highway at like 70-80 would put me around like 4200 rpms and 60 would be 3000 or so if I recall. So I mean I can't tell if it's going to be something that's annoying or not.. hopefully my gas mileage will go up having 5th gear

from what I hear you can expect it but not like I mind.. I tend to drive without the radio playing sometimes I know one thing my shifter moves a lot.. or when I last drove the car I would be on the highway in like 2nd and just rolling on the throttle you can feel the shifter and see it every time you slowly roll on the throttle. from what I understand it's the transmission mount? Once I get this squared away I'm going to do the mounts

one question I wanted to ask you was when you got the replacement pins was it just one or was it the stupid two pin setup again? No one has them and the only closest people that have them are in Vermont and Mass and I'm not going that far for pins lol. I was doing a bunch of reading and if my linkage is stuck they say a pickle fork works good on getting it off if it's stuck. I misplaced my punch pins I had in my bag so I ended getting the sizes again but 3 inches longer this time.

I stopped by the dealer today and he checked did not have the part in stock for 633046020 so I had him search and he says the only dealers that had it were like up in MA or VT.. I was like Oh really?? So it had me thinking.. harbor Freight has 315 piece and a 120 piece spring pin set i was thinking one of these must fit? I mean really the spring pin is not a huge big thing being dealer only I just don't know the size.. and it seems the replacement part is just a single pin and not the smaller pin inside the larger one. http://www.harborfreight.com/315-piece-roll-pin-assortment-67682.html http://www.harborfreight.com/120-piece-roll-pin-storehouse-67591.html
