I'm not really worried at all about the transmission I brought the car without 5th gear.. I think I did pretty damn good on getting 30,000 miles out of the transmission. I wont know until I pull the plug in the morning I spent almost like $100 in flushing it after I got the car because the whole reason why 5th gear was lost was they ran it out of fluid.. But like I was telling someone else I've seen my fair share of hazards on the road in the morning... a friken 5 gallon bucket blowing over into my lane.. 10 wood boards scattered across all lanes.. A potting soil bag in the first lane. I've been waiting since I have everything expect for the 6 ton jack stands and the knuckle part for the shifter so it can stop flopping around. Oh and I need the seals for the replacement transmission which I hope I can find the part numbers for those.

Funny thing was I was expecting a bunch of gear noise but never heard anything crazy.. when I had my '03 FXS the front diff went out because the seal leaked for that car the case really got messed up big time.. axle popped out and up which crack the case at the retaining cups.. it was a mess. I just need it to last for another week but I'm going to take the train to work for a week, I found a good deal on a '98 forester transmission I think it was 86K for I think it was $259 or so. I can't remember what and where but how did you keep the engine from pitching forward when removing the transmission and where did you mount the strap to keep it level after the transmission is removed?

I was driving along and all of a sudden my whole car was dragging big time.. So I move forward again and it moves fine.. long story short no gear oil in the front.. I limp home keeping under 20 mph.. I grab some gear oil and I put in a bottle and I see it's got a crack in the case just a bit above where the drain hole is. That seems like an odd spot for a crack in the case, no?

I thought or I swear i saw on endwrench that some 97 OBW's had faulty ECU's which require a flash? I call it the ghost CEL flash.. My story on mine is I went almost 12 months without it coming on and I pull the battery wires to change my starter contacts and now it's almost every day it blinks or it will be every other day.. You can go WOT when it blinks and it runs the same as if the CEL was never on.. My idle is normal my plug wires are only 4 months old.. I ended getting those at the dealer because they were cheaper then the NGK's last time I checked the coil pack was in spec for what the service manual listed

Yeah I had a friend that picked up those aftermarket axles and I told him to take them back and I will do the axles on his wife's '02 forester.. It took me longer to get the passenger side on because I forgot my c-clip came with right angles! nevertheless a year later and it's good I think he is due for his 100K service so he wants me to do that.. Speaking of that did '02's have a plastic oil separator plate as well??

I'm not sure if you call it binding or dragging since I've never been in a car that dragged. Anyways I notice is the most when say I turn the wheel say two times to the right or left to park in a space or whatever it feels like the whole car wants to slow down more then normal. For people that have binding do you have any sounds?

That would explain what happened on Thursday it was at 1/4 and I went to pass someone and I remember saying in the car WTF?? It went from 1/4 to Empty and that was that.. I know $40 of gas should have the gauge reading just about spot on at 1/2 a tank. So how much does the dealer kill you on the fuel sender? $300? I hear some say use techron I still have a bottle left I think but I can't see how it will help all that much. 9 Gallons in the tank well checking the price at a somewhat local place it's $149 for both the sending unit and sub unit which is not bad

nope the guy pulled it out of this plastic box that looked like a clear container that sorts screw sizes (what I could think of) and on the lid it had the shapes of the contacts and some numbers.. I remember the larger one was like F06 he matched them up and that was it. You really have to ask around Most wont know what the hell you are talking about and will try to sell you a starter. I really wished they had a part number :-/
