  1. fun times (no really) the best fun I had with my car was doing the timing belt I can't wait to do it on the next legacy.
  2. good luck in whatever you find I'd love to get a 05 LGT but maybe in a few more years... shocked they are coming down in price so fast.
  3. What black button are you talking about the remote transmitter?
  4. is this an issue on the MY98+ cars? when I did my oil seal I never bothered to pull the pump and I never had any issues with it with the 36K I put on the car.
  5. I car I had before it crashed and i put the snows on I drove 32K on mismatched tires.. 3 of the tires were toyo's and one was an older firestone.. nothing stupid happened.. Now if i ran something like new tires up front with old then the rears I risk a CD damage.
  6. Anyone know on what year outbacks they came standard on? was it 97 and up?
  7. question is it possible for a 2000 Legacy to have internal headgasket issues? i've seen two listings so far for 2000 Legacies with the issues but I've just only heard of them having the external issues.
  8. sounds clearly like a faulty alternator.. the battery should never go down to 12V while running Also the first two signs of this issue is the brake and battery lights come on.
  9. Here is the file here.. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GTA8UESX It's not anything wrong with the hayes it just not go in depth for the timing belt.
  10. you can drain and check the fluid.. in my car the car was an auto and the ring gear blew pieces of the case open.
  11. Do not buy a Hayes or Chilton, they are total crap. Get a factory service manual and if you have mechanical experience you can change the belt very easily. Also change the water pump, and re-seal the oil pump. Agree 1000X you can find the FSM for the 1995 Subaru (I have it) the FSM made it a breeze.. the only part that messed me up which took me longer then 1 hour was I did not see the little arrow marks on the cam and more so the crank. If someone has not said here before don't go by the white marks!! but the FSM takes care of it better then any of those off the shelf repair manuals.
  12. I've been changing my own oil since 2005 and I've always hand tightened the oil filter and never had it leak. Some people go nuts trying to make the oil filter tighter.. After it mates with the block I turn it an extra 180 degrees.. fill it with oil start it and check for leaks, then go on a drive and check for leaks again. Oh I also put a thin coat of oil on the rubber seal before screwing it back on the block.
  13. heh back when I did the TB on my 95 EJ22 to get the cam set right I spun the driver's side cam a whole 360 with my bare hands with no gloves.. Sure I said a few words but man my hands were a bright red! Also good to know all the good things about the dayco belts.. I had an order come in for the Alternator belt but sadly my wagon never saw the new belt :-\
  14. Gotta give us more info.. knocking when cold?? Warm? Does it sound like its coming from just one side of the engine? the EJ25's are known for piston slap when cold but tapers off when warm
  15. Mine did the same but it was because the oil seal leaked and it ran dry... from the time I heard it (I was at speed) from just taking off from a stop light slowly it just ate it's self apart.. 2003 FXS
  16. sounds like a bad crystal? here's a quick fact for you... did you know analog clock never lose time like digital clocks do? anyways in a unrelated but still on point I have a ipod dock here and I noticed in 3 weeks time the time would be off by like 5 min. which in the end made me wake up later and later until I was late for work... So I went to walmart and got the cheapest analog clock they had and replaced the crystal from that in the ipod clock and now it runs 5 min faster but I rather it be faster then slower.
  17. would have better luck if you could find the FSM for your year and model.
  18. heh the Air bag system does have a sensor to check the sensors and I highly doubt they are single replaceable... if they are it's big $$$ I don't want to guess what the impact sensor costs...
  19. sounds like the alternator got wet.. most of the time when you clean the engine you cover the alt up.
  20. at least this time I might have better luck finding an outback...
  21. mine did this from the very top.. I think it's because of the little breather at the top.. I've never seen it before until like 2 months ago when I happened to be under the car.
  22. hmm maybe water go in where the crash sensors are behind the front bumper? well really mounted on the frame if I'm right. but they seem pretty well sealed.
  23. sometime next month I will be going out to check but for the time being I'm looking at some cars on CL and this is crazy.. a 1999 outback for $1595.. http://providence.craigslist.org/ctd/2248376835.html only thing is the seller says it stalls at lights and needs exhaust work.. hmm sounds like vac leak to me?
  24. poor Subie funny thing is my battery was tilted the same way.. did your car leak any fluids? I was shocked I never lost any coolant at all.
  25. So guess what.. i get a call from geico saying that i possibly did more then $10,000 worth of damage to the pickup truck... first of all i'm thinking to myself how the ************ I did that and the guy drove away after the cops came but later returned as i was just getting my car hooked up for the tow. And this happened like almost 3 weeks ago sounds like someone is trying to cash in if you ask me... i say that because my limit was $10k for property
