  1. Wow what a day. Started off early at the DMV to find out their computer systems were down statewide . Luckily I had all of the proper paperwork to get a temp tag. Then I ran to NAPA for a few last minute things not knowing what the DMV would be looking for when registering an out of state vehicle. Then it was off to get her smogged. This had me so nervous cause of the smog nazis we have here in CA. Went to a guy and he was willing to do a pre-smog and then we went for it and she passed :banana: Then back to the DMV for verification, which is fancy for checking vin#'s throughout the car and title. After that I went back inside and was issued California plates. I get axles tomorrow. And if all is well might check out some trails this weekend.
  2. She is finally on all fours. I was able to finish the front strut lift blocks. The car runs and drives. I only drove it around the shop parking lot still running on 2 studs per wheel. Later that day I got the hubs over to my machinist for drilling. I also re-routed the stock exhaust so it runs along the pass floor board then crosses over the rear beam/driveshaft instead of under. Still needs a few things, including front axles

  4. I personally will be making blocks for the top of the strut. But to lengthen the bottom portion of the strut and retain proper geometry you will have to lengthen the LCA, and need to make sure there is enough plunge in the inboard CV for the longer arm. If not longer axles will be needed. This is what I did on my WRX wagon. Luckily I was able to get sedan axles which are longer than wagon so I extended the arms 3/4'' per side.
  5. Looks like I will have some time to put the motor back in tomorrow. If all goes well I may be trailering it out to the desert this weekend. We already have a trip planned and I probably won't have time to get it registered and smogged so I will just tow it out for the weekend....hopefully.
  6. Thanks guys. I found a Victor Reinz PN and it will be in on Monday. Other than that I got the heads on....buttoned up to the valve covers. Oh and installed new water pump.
  7. Weekend already failed My o-rings for the oil pump was left out of a parts order that took a few days to get. So go to the local NAPA and well, no luck. They say they cannot even get it. So I try to buy upper and lower radiator hoses, acc. belts, and an oil filter.....all they had was the oil filter. So unless I find something on a Saturday in the land of new Subarus, I may have to wait another fricken week.

  9. Steering extension completed. Should be picking up some pipe tomorrow for the front strut lift. Then I can put her back on all fours. I guess my motor guy is gone for a week, so I have to wait to get my heads back along with my gaskets.
  10. Got the rear diff buttoned up. I also drilled and tapped the hole where the factory vent went. I drilled to 1/2 and tapped 9/16 fine for a -6an o-ring fitting and ran approx. 3' of -6 pushloc line over and up to the fuel filler tube. Next I need to extend the breather on the trans which is just the fill tube.
  11. There is a certain way to do it....like NOT welding on the charged shock body. Not sure if you can see it that well in the pic, but this is why I welded the 2'' tube to the lower spring perch. The 2''x.095 fits nice and snug around the lower end of the shock, then I slide a 1.75''x.095 tube into the 2'' which also keyed nice and snug over the very bottom of the shock. I also welded about an inch at a time and cooled it with shop air to not over heat and expand the air inside the shock. Guess I should have took pics of the process. Please don't try this at home. On another note.....just got done welding up the rear diff

  14. Naw, I will only make for myself. I really can't wait to get her up and running. I tore my WRX apart late Nov. and have been riding my bicycle since then....really really need a running car again.
  15. Got the heads over to the machine shop for cleaning and resurfacing. Head gasket kit, time belt kit and new water pump should be here next week maybe running shortly thereafter.

  17. The rear is 1000% done The front only needs strut blocks. Looks like I need to get some pretty big pipe. Still no pictures cause my camera is dead and I cannot find the battery charger for the life of me
  18. My WRX wagon and my brothers STI went anywhere in the sand. We ran Michelin Rally Tyres at 10 psi....of course this is the expensive route. But we did do 150 miles in the sand in 2 days, drove the cars there and back home 4 hours away.
  19. I got all of the 4'' blocks on the rear. I still need to make the diff drop plate and upper rear shock brackets. I really, really need to hear back from my machinist about my heads. I did some trade work and now nothing....

  21. Well my 2 full days of work turned into only working 1 full day on the car. I did get the greasy mess cleaned up. I had to remove everything off the front of the car except the wiring harness to clean up the mess. Finally I was able to start working on the lift. I decided on 5'' up front and 4'' out back. What I should have done is 4'' spacing all around and 5'' on the front struts....oh well. So to achieve my 5'' I made the front engine crossmember spacers out of 1/4 plate and pieced it all together. Then I got smart for the radius rods/trans mount and cut down 6'' rectangle to 4 3/4 and add 1/4 plate to the bottom to get 5''. The rest will be 4'', which I have everything cut. Now all thats left is to drill the 4'' blocks and install. I still have to extend the steering linkage, and sort out the shift linkages. Shouldn't be a problem, just out of time now. Hopefull I will get a few hours on it this week. Pics to come.
  22. Probably once I start moving forward with it. Right now I'm just having some components machined and I've torn it into a bajillion pieces. I'm going to really take my time with the WRX round 2.
  23. Thank you. The theme for the EA82 is "beg, borrow or steal" I'm just gonna build a functional daily driver, wheeler. So far aside from the purchase and transport out Ca I've only spent $15.00 on this. What I got for the $15 is 4 BFG at's (little bit of tread left) and 4 Toyota 4-Runner 15'' wheels. I also got a Subaru Nardi steering wheel for free, 3 Hella 500 lights for free and the front seats out of a 2007 WRX for free. I did some trade work for the re-surfacing of the heads and some gaskets. Its almost time to spend some money though. It needs a water pump, power steering pump, hoses, hose clamps, belts.....etc. Edit: also hoping to find some scrap soon (like today) for the lift. If not I will use some material I have in the shop. The WRX is back under the knife also Low, wide, 30'' tires and double the wheel travel.
  24. Got the motor apart. Bottom end is in good shape. Hoping to get some material for the lift by this weekend. If not I have enough 1/4 plate to piece it all together, but that would be way too much work. Oh well I have to go with whats cheap.
