How to remove AC components from Loyale EA82?
__aw replied to __aw's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hey guys, thanks for the discussion, as to my schedule on this car, I don't know how soon I will get into it. I have a lot of projects going on right now, and since this car is running, it has a lower priority to get worked on than anything else. In other words don't hold off finishing your own projects waiting for me to send you parts from the other side of the continent. I still plan on taking out the AC parts, and I will gladly pass them on to someone who needs them, but I can't promise when I will do it. As for the paper towel alt bracket, yeah, that is a missing link that I still need to solve. I am going to do some junkyard visits soon and see if I can find a non-AC loyale, maybe I can find the appropriate bracket? I'm not opposed to home made brackets but I need to do a JY trip anyways so I might as well look. -

I'm not going to vent this stuff into the atmosphere. I already feel like a wongleflute for letting my car leak oil into the watershed for so long... it was a simple fix. -

Hey thanks for the input. I won't have time to work on the car until this next weekend. If I can find a quick and obvious way to rig the alternator without the AC compressor, I'll go ahead with it. I won't cut anything. If it comes out in good shape you can have whatever you want for the cost of shipping. No promises anything will happen this weekend though. -
I finally did the timing belt + oil pump seal + new water pump on my old 93 Loyale this past weekend, so first of all thanks to everyone who has posted all relevant information on that topic in the past (Miles Fox and GD specifically). The info shared here was super helpful. The biggest source of causing me to swear at the car was caused by the air conditioning components being in the way. First of all the condenser.. if that was gone I could have direct access through the grill (after removing rad of course). Next, the compressor, love to see that get deleted too, for easier access to everything from above. Anyways what I am getting at is, how reasonable is it to remove this stuff? It doesn't work and I don't live in a place where I need AC anyways, so I'm thinking why not just get rid of this stuff, so it's easier to work on the car in the future (and slightly less weight never hurts). There are three problems that I don't have the answer to: If I get rid of the compressor, could I just get shorter belts to take up the slack and call it good? Is there a non-AC Loyale? Is it environmentally safe to decompress the AC? I don't know whats in there or how to dispose of it. Is there anything else that I am overlooking related to removing the AC hardware that would need to be done? Does it affect any other systems or tie into the heating? Thanks in advance, I appreciate it.

I don't really understand what the purge control solenoid does (aside from controlling purges ). My CEL light has been on ever since I got the car, and the code points to the purge control solenoid. But I have always passed emissions here in Oregon. Is it worth it to get one from the junkyard next time I am there? Does it have any noticeable effect on the engine? If it makes it smoother or more efficient then I will get one, but if it is simply for emissions then I am not so sure since I have always passed.

Loyale hub, how do I remove it from axle?
__aw replied to __aw's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Awesome. I was able to stick a screwdriver in the slot and gave it a couple of whacks and the conical ring popped right out. The busted lug bolt was easy to remove as well. I'm sure having some PB blaster soaking in for a couple of days must have helped a little bit at least. Love that stuff. -
Loyale hub, how do I remove it from axle?

Glad to hear it is simple. It's these little things, without having the experience, it always takes 3x as long as it should. I don't care though. It's well worth it to me to learn this stuff and become more self reliant. Thanks! -
Hi guys. First of all thank you everyone for both sharing your knowledge as well as being patient with newbie questions like mine. Anyways... I have done a bit of searching both online as well as Haynes manual, and I cannot figure out how to get the front wheel hub off of the axle. There is a little collar thing with a slot in it that seems to hold the hub in place on the axle. It's not obvious how it comes out. Press fit? Do I need some type of a special puller to get it out? I think the axle splines start right about where the collar is, no? Here is a pic in case there is any question. Front axle, '93 Loyale (maybe a 92, I cannot remember).

I've got some super slow motion windshield wipers. High speed feels like barely normal speed should. Intermittent is funny to watch.. it gives a little nudge a few times before it the wiper actually makes a pass. I know it's a minor detail... but I am wondering if it is worth pulling out the wiper motor assembly and tearing it down (is this even possible)? In past experience with small parts like this, often a thorough cleaning and re-greasing works wonders. Just thought I'd ask if anyone had any tips... "give it a shot" or "don't waste your time" or "yeah that is exactly what you need to do", etc. Thanks!!!!

Well, it quit working, no more fluid squirting out. It looks like the pump might be buried in the body above the passenger side front wheel. Any tips on the best / easiest way to access it? Guessing I will need to pull off the plastic stuff in the wheel well and go in from underneath. Not a clue what caused it. Planning to first check for continuity at the washer pump, then check to see if the pump works, and hopefully it is something simple. Is there anything in particular you guys have seen that is a common failure with this part? Thanks!

I want to Sea Foam my Loyale. Any tips on the best location for adding it? Can I add it where the PCV valve goes in? That location is most convenient. Will it reach all of the cylinders if I add it there? Is there a better place? Thanks.

New tires for 93 Loyale - Help with size

Ok, thanks a lot. I went down to the tire store and bugged them with the same questions. It makes sense now. Thanks for all the advice. -
New tires for 93 Loyale - Help with size
__aw replied to __aw's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sorry I got some numbers mixed up. The plate inside the door says 165SR13, and the tires on the car now are 165/80 13. This is for a 93 loyale wagon 4wd. When I look up tires for this car, tirerack tells me 185/70 13 is stock (just like you said). But other sites have 165 listed for this car. It's confusing! And thanks for the input. -
I'm in need of some new rubber on my 93 Loyale wagon. Current (stock) is 165-70-13. I've seen a few threads talking about running 185-70-13 as well as 185-80-13 on this car. Will those tires sizes fit on the stock rims? Should I consider going with a larger tire? The 165's look like pinners, I wouldn't mind having a bit more width. Are there any downsides to a slightly wider tire?
