  1. My 99 legacy brighton wagon uses a 2000 air filter. completely different size. also found out my 02 senors (and entire car emission parts) are California emission spec. Go figure, I bought it brand new in Norfolk VA and been on east coast since. No MAF sensor either. NAPA has your rear brake shoes as well.
  2. I've gotten mine from NAPA and Autozone and they have lasted. about $60 apiece. not many used subaru parts around here (not when I needed them).
  3. like fairtax said, I'd put it on jackstands. I've had the clunking noise when the cv axle went bad and also wierd noises when bearing went really bad. I had top to bottom play in the wheel when lifted. just took care of that last weekend.
  4. where the H6's bad with headgaskets as well during those years? just wondering if maybe periodically lubricating those bolts would help prevent corrosion and difficulties removing later?
  5. thanks fellas. Subaru parts are hard to come by around here at auto salvages. I got timken bearing and other parts to go with it. having heck of time with tie rod end out of knuckle now. local grage will press all together for $40-50. I've been saying one more year for the past 4 years at least now. LOL
  6. thanks but just bought parts this afternoon. Stealership wanted $150 for bearing and $200 for hub. I passed. Don't plan on holding onto this car longer than a year. getting to much to do and need reliable travel vehicle. keeping an eye on nice used outbacks or tribeca with h6
  7. Need to replace front wheel bearing, again. 99 legacy brighton wagon. Any recommendation on brand? probably will buy locally. can't wait for shipping.
  8. I don't know about anyone else but a tear came to my eye watching them waste a 59 impala.... just saying. as for mercedes, my mom has 2008 e-class (50,000 miles) and pays through the nose for any maintenance repairs (which have been several already). I wouldn't want one.
  9. 99 legacy wagon EJ22. I've got the same exact codes throwing every time. trying to get CEL out for emissions inspection. any update on this?
  10. update... replaced cv axle. problem gone. seemed it was the inner cv joint this time.
  11. yes, these guys know what they're talking about. I did mine (t-belt, water pump and associated idlers) first time ever without a hitch thanks to these guys and the website.
  12. I've replaced our washer pump couple times now. last time was with generic one without connector ($12-$15). came with splice connector, just match up wire color and crimp.
  13. thanks gbhrps, I checked them out. I didn't find anything about the if the stub slips out of the differential (as if you pull the cv axle and the differential shaft comes with it). Does it just pop back in or am I out of luck. Thank you for the recommendation. I'll register with his website and post question there as well. It's not a whine noise but a clunking sound that speeds up and slows down with car speed. nothing while sitting still.
  14. 1 Lucky Texan, on 10 Dec 2011 - 11:36, said: I came across this in search and believe I have this happened. 99 legacy brighton wagon with automatic and 270,000 miles. Original cv axle, boot is not cracked or showing leakage. I have seepage from the drivers side diff, smell as it hits exhaust, and the clunking noise under load while accelerating even on straight line. not while turning. clunking got faster as speed increased. no clunking while still and engine running. If diff stub/spline did "pop" out, how hard is it to get it re-seated and sealed?

  16. the one that came with the arctic freeze bottle. it did not have the adjustable upper/lower range faceplate over the psi scale (wifey picked it up at store while out on errand) so I made sure the outside temp was 80 degrees which was between the 75/85 temp stated in instructions. I mean it is cooling really well inside so I will just hold off adding anymore even though it was below what it called for.
  17. it's not cycling alot at all. clutch stays engaged the whole time I was filling, as it sat in driveway. thanks for the reply
  18. So I added coolant (r-134a) to the a/c in my 99 legacy brighton wagon and so far so good. I followed directions on can closely and made sure I used a gauge and checked it frequently. It seemed like a long time for the gauge needle to bump up PSI to where it should be according to ambient temperature (40-50 PSI). I stopped somewhere around 30-35 psi for now and inside was running nice and cool. I'm just concerned I will put to much in... any thoughts?
  19. I had the same thing happen to my 99 brighton wagon (a/t). look up my past threads. Don't even have a MAF sensor (don't ask unless really interested). Occasional codes thrown. It seemed temperamental with the weather. I'm thinking vacuum leak in one of the old hoses but it's stopped doing it for a while now.
  20. greeat info. I to have 99 legacy brighton wagon and front tire blew out yesterday. not sure how much longer I want to hold onto the car and put more money into so I'm heading out to salvage yards tomorrow.
  21. was just reading this thread. I have the 99 legacy brighton wagon CA spec since new and bought it in Norfolk Va. wierd how that ended up there. didn't find that out till several oxygen sensors never matched year/model. issues as well as air filters. doesn't even have maf sensor. Anyhow it's going on 265,000 miles now (knock on wood). If anything I'm having more issues with ride but that's because it's still all original. they're def great cars!
  22. At 256,000 miles my 99 brighton wagon still has it's original alternator and most other major compponents. watch it all crap out on my now....
  23. may as well take the whole thing. LOL when emptied out turn it into a chicken coup. that's what folks in my area might do.
  24. you can say that again... I've had to learn about all the quirkyness of my cali emission 99 brighton, and I got it brand new in Va Beach! go figure done thread jacking.
