95 Legacy 5mt 203k. This engine had been overheated around 150k. The headgaskets are now leaking leaving the chocolate mousse like substance on the oil filler cap. I'm trying to determine if I should repair the hgs or do an engine swap or look for another suby. I've read the 2.2s leak slowly for a long time thus ruining the bottom end. And I suspect this one has been for some time. The engine has started idling very rough at very low temps (-15F), when warmed it idles fine but does randomly stumble under more than moderate load. I'm wondering how I go about deciding which route to take in fixing or replacing either the hg's, engine, or whole car. TIA

95 lego 5mt 185k. Recently has begun not starting after several days of rest. It will start if started daily. During investigations I have heard a mosquito like buzzing coming from the central engine bay. This is NOT the abs relay that is known to stick. It makes the buzzing sound with no key in ignition and the buzzing stops as soon as you disconnect the positive lead. I've tried lsitening at various things with a srewdriver handle but can't say for sure where it's coming from. Maybe the ignition pack? It sounds like it's dead center and top of the engine. tia.

Well if I was made of money I would. I also wouldn't be living in suby for 3 months now. The filler tube just started leaking. I probably lost my job yesterday. And my little trip to the er put me 4k in debt. Basically the ************ hawks are circling. What should I expect to pay for new struts installed? If its the same price as a mossberg its gonna be a coin flip.

No I just had it aligned looking at the read out its spot on. Also def not the brakes. Gonna try and see if it does it first thing in the morning I've got a few corners ot chirps every time. If not then I'll vote tb. If it does then I prolly wont worry so much. Road was too wet this morning to get results. Wish me luck I'm going in to interview to keep my job....yeah.

I'm almost positive its coming from the tires breaking traction. 5/32 of tread left...maybe I've worn into a different compound? Its so weird it'll do it around one corner and not the next. It seems like the load has to be just right...too much or too little no noise. Can I hope for winter soon so I can just powerslide every corner

Thanks gg. When I had it aligned yesterday, suspecting that was my culprit, the tech said it was in need of new struts...so maybe. It seems like its more likely happening around uneven corners...will investigate that. If tb would it take 65k to show up from previous owner abuse..I've been religious to keep tires rotated and inflated having previously smoked a vc.

95 lego 5mt 175k. I've owned since 110k. Recently started notcing tire chirp when taking corners at normal speeds. Like a little birdie chirp chirp...chirp. seems intermittent but its just started happening. I've had it happen in left and right tight and sweeping turns. Wheels are petfectly aligned and all tires match within spec. Now heres where I'm confused...if u go to a parking lot and lock the wheel either direction it will idle itself around quietly. Previous 98 with torque bind required gas and hopped around like a 4wd truck when executing the same maneuver. Thoughts? Suggestions? Tia.

When my iac needed cleaning, as in cleaning it fixed my problem, I was getting the code for idle higher than expected. And it was idiling over 1k. To clean the iac I went to the dealership and asked one of the tech how they clean it. He said he just uses throttle body cleaner by spraying it through the iac while the car is running.

I thought about this but kinda ruled it out based on sticking a screwdriver on the t-belt covers and hearing nothing, screwdriver on the alt is loud. ?? The new noise is different, it goes away with the alt belt off, it's coming from the alt based on my screwdriver test. How do I tighten the crank pulley or inspect its tightness? How do I check the electric load on the alt?

Alright sounds like it's just a pos alt. I had to get to work today when installed it in their parking lot. Think napa will just give me my money back? I think I'd rather have that. I guess the plus side is alternators are easy to swap out on these cars. Alright I'll go hassle them tomorrow. I guess it's probably something they've dealt with before...the insta-return. Looks to be a whole bunch of em at the yards...anyway to tell if it a subaru alt and not aftermarket??

95 Legacy 5mt 161k. Replaced the alternator a year ago...last 6k miles my cars been making a sound like it was throwing a rod...nope...bad bearings in the alternator. So I have a lifetime warranty from napa and went down and exchanged it. As soon as I put it on I could hear the bearings in the new one...not hammering like the old one but its def noisey. SO, did I just get a crappy alt from napa or is there something else going on? Only thing I could think it MIGHT be is a loose crank pulley as the alt belt has more leverage on the crank pulley than the ac belt.(no noise with just ac belt on). Any thoughts? tia.

I changed the oil recently. I suppose new plugs n' wires are in order. Air filter is probably a good idea too this one has been through one too many dust storms. I just noticed oil seeping out around the knock sensor. I think...the knock sensor is front left next to the ej22 stamp? Doesn't seem like oil should be leaking out of there.
