opinions (ea82t rebuild)
Vanislru replied to bushbasher's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'd think about giving the rings a look if you've got the time. What sort of shape are the insides of the cam/valve covers in, how much oily residue/sludge is there. Nice score by the way. -
It stopped just before monsterization was it supposed to? Looked great tho.

Adjustable Timing Pulleys… who might want some?
Vanislru replied to All_talk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It all sounds pretty good to me. These hub adapters, are they for 4 stud to 5 stud? I'm gonna be pretty choked if we can't make it to the meet it sounds like there's going to be some wicked go fast goodies to be had. -

I was thinking about these the other day, I'm still interested too. -
a redline a day keeps the mechanic away

Valve float depends on the cond. of your valve springs, if they're new or have never really been abused then it'll happen at the upper rev range. I have 2 86 ea82t's and the lifted wagon floats em at 7000rpm but the rally wagon floats at 6500rpm on a good day. If you install some new springs or stiffer aftermarkets then you should be able to take it up to 8000rpm with no float. -
So this lift you're offering has more clearance? Is it comparable to a 6" body lift? I have a 4" kit on one of my wagon's right now with strut and shock's extended by another 1 3/4" and I still had to beat the hell out of the fender wall to clear 29's with a bit of rubbing. I'll be changing out the first blown up CV this weekend after about 8,000 mi, alot of that's abusive wheeling but the increased angles and strain on the axles will make changing axles part of regular maintenance for me. I'm curious as to how your kit will get around this problem, an extra 10-15 degrees of axle strain is considerable, it also tends to limit the travel of your wheel somewhat cause there's only so much give in the cv's.

yeah like 4x4 eh?

I haven't done that but earlier subes had no water cooling and they worked well but packed it in much sooner than ours do. You can run without and be fine [as long as you idle for a min. or so after a bit of hard driving] but it'll pack it in alot sooner than you'd expect. If you don't want to mess with it let me know and I'll send mine down on the bus.

Get rid of your cats[u can use 1 large performance cat] and use a larger DP + exhaust this'll free up just a wee bit more than 2-3 hp [like 20 hp] and the throtle response will be unreal. A good filter with a cold air intake or chopped out air box helps plenty too. If you have some dollars you could go with a different turbo but unless you do it properly it's a waste of money and time IMO.

I don't have any snap ring pliers, I did things a little bit ghetto:drunk:

Hey Johnathan I have pulled one apart, it's fairly easy. As long as you are carefull you not to damage the turbines you'll be alright[having a rebuild kit handy would be sweet tho]. I googled and found someones write up of theirs and gave that a read before I started messin'. I have a rhb5 whatever trim, the turbo you need, that's got some cracks on the exhaust side and a bit of shaft movement that I'll swap you if things don't go OK. I need the intake side off a stock one for my hybrid tdo4/rhb5 I'm making.

So far it's planned but who know's. The prices on rust free subes can be bit silly on the island, $3500 for an efi 2wd? the buy and sell doesn't have much to offer these days.
-
They will run you about $400 for the trannie, cv's/axles, diff, and driveshaft at the wreckers and it should only take a day to install. The d/r 5 spd was the best money I spent on my car. Dan's car's going to be sweet, sounds like he's going to run my td04 and wrx intercooler with an HKS downpipe. Mt.Cain's roads are going to get sessioned!

Is this legal for the racing you do Will?

Happy Birthday from Canuckistan eh. ATB Trevor.

Hello DP So you got those 29" tires yet? Glad to see you are out of the closet, no more lurking for you eh? Oh yeah, Dan you might want to post/move this in Meet and Greet.

Hubs are the same you don't need the turbo axles.

Nice tread pattern on those looks like they'll hook up well:brow:

No chance it's the rad itself and it's just a small leak that's evaporating off?
-
Roof rack noise seems to come from any horizontal bar you have off the roof up front. I had a rack that was maybe 5" high up front and it howled like a husky in heat when I was at highway speeds.

Link didn't work for me.

OMG:brow: This car is goiing to own the course.

Me too! Couldn't understand anything on the website but the photos were enough to convince me. Glaciers, Snow, Hotsprings oh yeah.

Alloys, eh. I'm looking for alloys for my ru but it ain't easy finding 15x6's with 3.5" backspacing. How much offset do your alloys have?
