  1. wait... what??? filter after the air flow sensor? As in between the maf and turbo?if so, fix that. with a quickness.. put it back to stock if you can but that is a no-no. one small piece of debris hits the MAF wire and you're going to have a bad day.. stock air cleaner setups on these are just fine.
  2. nope, mine was a push button 5 speed, and was swapped to a dual range.
  3. well, all the hard launches and abuse finally caught up with me... the trans went ka-put about a month ago. It was weird, I drove through puddle, and when I got to the other side, I pulled it out of gear and now the shifter is locked up. wont go into any gears, luckily I have another car to drive..just another thing I need to fix, not surprising though that trans had close to 400k on it.
  4. I have the car you want lol, 87 gl-10 turbo with a dual range. the hose that's leaving coolant on the head is a small hose on the left side of the intake manifold, to the throttle body. I had the same problem. here's my thread, http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/131931-quiet-riot-my-87-gl-10/page-5
  5. well, he has quite a few d/r but i think he only has 1 rx, its a black sedan that runs and drives but is hit in the front. though he does have about 6 turbo wagons, one of them has got to have an lsd. he doesnt really build anything custom, he mostly just buys and fixes and sells. 61.606085, -149.636826 look this up in google maps, thats his new gen yard 61.58516,-149.544936 this is his old gen yard.
  6. Well I have alot to think about now. Thanks for all the input!
  7. that's what I was afraid of, could I lower the cross-member 1" without lengthening the steering?
  8. so I have an 86 gl with 2" lift and the front inner boots keep splitting. I've replaced both axles around a month ago and they're both already split. Is there something I can do to stop this or am I just going to have to get really good at swapping them. I know the axles I got were not the best but I would think the boots would last a little longer than that. this car also has the adjustable struts, and they are in the lowest setting. I've put 2 sets of front axles in, in less than 1k miles.

    frunt sway bar

i got 2 2" lifted gl's, one is a gl-10 turbo its more of my street car so the sway bar is still connected, the other is an 86 gl with 29" tires, its the offroad rig, and no sway bar on it. the difference isn't really noticable, though the 86 does lift in the front under hard accel in 2wd. to solve this i just start out in 4wd. the tires are brand new so it doesnt bind. the turbo i usually start in 4wd also, but that just so i dont get a ton of wheel spin.
  10. I actually found one of the rare 2.5 turbo "mini ram" caravans. but the guy is in love with letting it sit and waste away.its a shame, the thing is beautiful..its got porthole windows in the back and a ground affects kit. I want it so bad.
  11. well just some thoughts from how I look at it. do what I did. lift it, put some tires on it, park on his hood. problem solved. if you want a cheap reliable honda stomper. find a late 80's turbo dodge 2.2/2.5 easy to mod cheaper than dirt and very reliable. only thing that really ever goes bad is the timing belt or the head gasket, both of which are 1 hr jobs.
  12. mayhaps you got one turbo axle.. N/A axles are 23 spline, turbos are 25.. they can be installed and the roll pin inserted but will wobble a lot. its a big maybe but it happened to me. but my car is a turbo that had a N/A transmission installed.
  13. I remember reading in a chiltons or haynes(so take with a grain of salt) that the er27 has the same CR as an ea82t, if thats true it would be a perfect candidate for forced induction. either that crazy supercharger setup or what I would do, a rear mount turbo. Basically you just replace the muffler with a turbo and pipe it to the motor. all you need to run is the oil line and boost pipe.
  14. http://www.vacmotorsports.com/projectsDetail.php?recordID=7 how bout sticking a supercharger on it?
  15. if you are just doing a clutch, pull the radiator, undo the motor mounts, the heater core lines, the y pipe, the starter, and the engine to case bolts. jack up and slide the engine forward till you can get at the clutch. it might be hard to get a clutch alignment tool in there so just leave the pressure plate bolts loose and tighten them through the starter hole once its back together. its going to take some creative jack work and motor wiggling but it will go back together, its helpful to jack the trans up also. so they can go back together without jamming on the motor mounts, you could also remove the motor mounts and re install them once the engine and trans is back together. I've done a couple like this, mostly on beateroos and it takes about 4 hrs if you know what your doing.
  16. the turbo intake pipe might be suspect, if its leaking it will make it run and idle wrong, its very sensitive to leaks. i had to seal mine with RTV. the maf should also be checked. both those will cause the kind of problems your talking about... i know my 87 turbo wag will haul a** all the way to 110. its a snail compared to a wrx but a rocket compared to a carbed ea82 IIRc there are some differences between 87 and 88 something in the distributor wiring? one of the wires is in a different slot or something. maybe locate an 87 disty and try it out. I dont know exactly what the differences are but I seem to recall there being a slight difference. As mentioned before the CTS is also very suspect, and pretty cheap to replace. Hope you get it figured, I went through the same kind of low power bogging thing on mine about a year ago, first it was the CTS then the intake pipe, then the maf. it purrs like a kitten now.
  17. Since I am in Alaska also I thought I would share some helpful information. in Wasilla there's a place called DC subaru, he has 2 yards, one with 85-94 gl-loyales and he had roughly 40 of them xt-6's-rx's he has everything. his other yard is new gens, 94-2012 with roughly 200 cars. and once again he has everything. It would be quite a drive but if you REALLY need something that's the place to find it. PM me if you want his number, though last time I talked to him he said he will be out of town till the 16th. As for the clutch if you go custom, Alaska clutch rebuilders here in anchorage if fantastic. They can make a hell of a clutch for you and do it very quickly. I had them rebuild a disc for my buddies beateroo cost me $40 and took about 15mins.
  18. went out and got the car dirty yesterday hows this for a view?
  19. perhaps look at the gear ratio on the rear diff. if its a 3.7 LSD its probably an rx box. if its 3.9 its a part time dual range and if its just 3.7 it might be a dual range from an 85 turbo. pics would be most helpful
  20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IgC7RKdCUE 22:50 and again at 24:35 car makes an appearance on road kill
  21. i run 10psi, so i always run premium.
  22. just thought I'd post this, for those who want a weber with a snorkel http://www.lceperformance.com/Weber-Carburetor-Hat-w-Tube-Kit-w-o-Air-Filter-p/1035031.htm
  23. Took the car out wheeling this morning with 15+ built trucks, 2 of which were chevys on 44's the rest were jeeps, toyotas and range rovers. Actually did pretty dang well, we weren't the first ones to get stuck! will have pics and video up soon. learned a lot about what the car needs, so a new plan has been created. During some spirited attempts to get up a rather large hill, the car has started acting funny. it stalls and makes an almost knocking sound. due to the amount of work we were putting it through, and the fact it was overheating most of the time, I'm going to guess it cracked a head, no oil-coolant mixing yet. The main problems I found was that I either had power, traction, or a clutch that was holding, never all three. Had to rev it to 6k and drop the clutch to get the tires going. So plans will be as follows, along with the already planned welded rear, an SPFI block and heads will be purchased along with some delta TQ cams, and a webber. Going to build a high compression motor, with a full reseal. It will hopefully have enough power to get the tires going. This motor was already pretty tired so it should be a welcome increase in power. along with the motor a better clutch is needed, a local shop should be able to make me a nice heavy clutch for it, hopefully it will be near XT6 specs. Also going to work out some kind of snorkel. Not sure when this will all be happening but it will be soon. heres a pic, Not mine, one of the other wheelers. I will have my pics up soon.
