  1. jack up the front, as high as you can. and hold the clutch in while you bleed them, should help. also the rear proportioning valve may be sticky.
  2. I got it! pull the vac line off the Fuel pressure regulator. if gas comes out theres your problem. i had this problem on the last spfi i had, wouldn't start easy and would idle like crap then stall out it slowly got worse and worse. till had to unplug the fuel pump to get it to start.
  3. this explains why my EA82t love winter
  4. well lets run through the list. get wd-40 or what ever and spray every hose, and the intake gaskets. if the idle rasies you found your leak Any CEL? and if so whats the code? short blink=1, long blink=10, long pause=next code. triple check the codes Take off the Pcv hose and spray a little wd-40 into the pcv valve when its running. fuel filter, get a new one. not much you can do to test it if you don't have a fuel pressure tester. And they are only about $10 And just for shiggles, unplug the MAF, they do some weird things when they go bad,and they dont always throw a code.
  5. +1 The 4x4 wont work properly if the tire's are different sizes, because if the fronts are bigger or smaller than the rear, they are trying to travel at dfferent speeds. This is also very bad for the 4x4, if you were in 4x4 and hit a dry surface at speed, you will break something. If you're lucky it will just be a C/V if you're not, it will be the transfer gears inside the transmission. Luckily R13 tires can be pretty cheap on Craigslist, I see full sets with good tread for around $50 all the time.
  6. define "slick surfaces" rain? or ice? are the tires all the same, with tread depth that is the same? it sounds like the rear tires are a little smaller than the front's causing it to drag the back end.
  7. My mileage is about the same as yours and I have larger tires, but i also have the 3.9 dual range out of a non turbo car(instead of 3.7), so it balances out somewhat. EJ is always worth it, if you can afford it. my speedometer only reads 4mph slow, with 28" tires.
  8. tune up +1 I get around 20mpg with 215/75/r15, an ea82t, in 4x4 around town. Around 25 on the highway(still in 4x4). And I do not drive for economy. In 2wd I get a few more mpg but its winter so I only use 2wd for sharp turns.
  9. Ok I got some color match paint on order, also ordered some OEM clutch and brake pedal pads, and a new rad fan switch. So once the paint gets here she's getting a make over, and around that time I'll get some new rear diff bushings, non A/C alt brackets and a new front caliper. Its going to spend a couple days in a shop while I paint, do the clutch, and throw in the new front C/V's that I have. And since I'm going to pull the motor to do the clutch I might do a reseal on it while I'm at it, If money allows. Getting closer!
  10. iv noticed my ea82t gets about 25mpg on the highway,in 4x4 with 205/75/r15 winter tires no studs. in town i get around 22mpg,and i drive it like i stole it.
  11. I'm not sure if I'd run coverless in deep mud but aside from that you should be ok Every 50k? The FSM say they should be replaced every 60k, and usually they arent broken.. when was the last time you replaced the tensioners and pulleys? As soon as my belt breaks I'm taking the covers off, and never looking back
  12. I'm not sure how his axles are liking the lift, but for about a week after I installed my lift the front axles made a sort of grinding noise. there was a little drive axle vibration at highway speeds while accelerating but its been about 200 miles, and they seem to have "broken in" no odd noises or vibrations anymore. and I'm not exactly easy on my axles.
  13. That thing looks awesome! Let me know when you wanna go test it out:)
  14. drivers foot well, right side. you will see some white plastic gears, press your hvac buttons and make sure they move if they do press the defrost. which should turn the gears to almost the end of their teeth. i had this problem on my car, turned one of the gears and havent had a problem since/ i hope you can understand me, its late and i'm feeling under the weather..
  15. if the shifter is stiff when its cold that just means your tranny has extra thick gear lube. not sure if thats good or bad though. so the problem is the pin that holds the cable to the pedal? I would be wary of driving it like that. having a clutch cable break/ come unhooked is no fun, especially in rush hour! lol
  16. Ah now hot wire mafs I know a lot more about! I assumed from your name it was an 86 xt.. and I guess they are right about assuming when you unplug the maf it will go into a sort of limp home mode. where it runs off a set fuel map, instead of using the maf to regulate. first make sure your intake pipe or "snorkus", Doesn't leak at all. ye olde carb cleaner will work for deducing leaks. dont spray the maf directly though. Mine is a turbo, but when I had a maf issue, first the intake pipe was leaking, then my maf went bonkers and it never threw a code. It caused my car to studder, cut out, and stall, all bad. And the maf would click like crazy. from all my diagnostics it was working.. I bought a JY one and all is well. I have never heard the new one click. If you can find one in a junk yard for cheap i would try that. dont clean it though, these mafs are self cleaning.
  17. Just finished installing my new tie rod end, and did a quickie alignment. It's not completely perfect, but the car drives straight and the steering wheel is just about straight. Before the steering wheel was about 10 degrees off now I'd say its only about 2 degrees off, and the car doesn't pull to the left anymore. Also I found the drivers side rack bellow is torn, but the passenger side is ok. so after I replace that, I'll get it aligned at a shop. I don't want to go to a shop and have them tell me about a bunch of parts that they need to charge me to fix. But for now I'm happy. Slowly plugging away. After the 20th most of my to do list will be taken care of. stay tuned.
  18. Yeah, I'm aware of the need to replace them, and that's one of the things on my list of things to fix. and it will be fixed before winter gets too bad. Drivers front fender. new front seats rear diff bushings, weld rear diff re-lube all window motors. new rubber brake lines, parking brake cable's new front drivers caliper(parking brake lever is sticky, i have to adjust it manually with a hammer:rolleyes:) new heater switch/resistor engine reseal steering rack reseal/ new lines. non a/c alternator brackets, for my new alternator. front struts, color match the front drv fender and paint hood black again. then theres the rust. and thats just what i know of right now. I have my work cut out for me. lol:cool:
  19. I got a turbo, so i face the can's mouth forward. theres more accel than deccel lol i usually only have bottles there anyways.
  20. i have a spare ea82 MC out of a 5speed w/hill holder. For the money to ship it its yours.
  21. I can't wait to see this thing tearing up some trails, there needs to be alot of video,ALOT of video. as far as stickers go I'd like to see one with the outline of a lifted subaru ith the front wheels sitting on the hood of a lowerd honda .
  22. you have the flapper style maf correct? like this one? if so use a screw driver and pop the top cover off after you have it off look at the contact area(will be self explanatory when you get it apart.) and see if you can see where the contact arm has worn through the contact area.these are called "dead spots" which would cause your symptoms. as far as fixing it goes you might be able to use some window defrost repair paint(never tried this as my maf is the hot wire type) or just get a new one. Thats all i know about that so i HTH:)
  23. I'm glad you liked it! Its sad I don't have a decent camera. Its sort of the typical "bad youtube video" I'm not sure what happened to my brakes, but they are better than they have been since I've owned it. They have always locked up all 4 but they sure didn't feel like it. I have replaced the MC, all the brake pads, hooked the hill holder back up, bled them 6 times, flushed the fluid, etc etc. and playing in the snow fixed them... weird. Theres a little squish still, but not nearly as much as there was. I still need to get all new rubber lines, but that can wait.
