I have been wanting to start shipping parts south for the less fortunate, there's a yard near here with 7 ea82t cars. and 40 non turbo ea82 cars, I don't think I would make any money though. my car runs perfect, no odd noises ever. I change the oil every time i get the chance, but theres a couple things I haven't done, the cooling lines are a big one, vacuum lines and I think the separator plate is leaking.. It was a lsd till it was converted to 3.9 dual range versus the 3.7 single range. I didnt know enough back then to even check. lol I got my car all done, I didnt do the C/vs but they aren't clicking and the boots aren't torn, so I just left them. FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE!! I did some wheeling to check everything. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3LaWCa_i14&feature=youtu.be

Oh trust me I flog the crap out of mine and i do let it cool down for a few minutes after. And yes on the snow and ice no one but a wrx stands a chance. Civics hate me lol..And I only flog it when it's really cold outside til I get an inter cooler That being said the only way i'd drive to the states is if I completely rebuilt it and I mean COMLETELY new bushings a motor reseal and so on. I'd be about 2k into just making the car reliable. I am going to miss it though. This car has never let me down. But ea82t with 248k miles is a problem waitin to happen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDiOco8ettA Flogging lol

I have thought about it, but there's a couple things holding me back. For one a plane ticket is much cheaper than driving there. And 2 I don't want to drive this car across the country, if it broke down I'd be screwed. minor stuff would be ok but this here is an ea82t, its going to break. and probably at the most inconvenient time. I'm probably not going anywhere till spring so I need something to drive all winter. the lift and tires are sure going to help if we have a winter like we did last year, we got 12 feet of snow. Plus selling this car is probably whats paying for my ticket. If not the ticket it will go towards getting a car when I'm there. I don't have much I could sell anyways. Aside from my laptop, all I have is a .22, a Wetterlings ax, a couple knives, my tools, a few random things, and my clothes. most of it wouldn't be worth selling. And I'm not selling my ax.:)Its coming with me even if I have to mail it. Although the drive would be pretty awesome! I have always wanted to do a road trip to America..

Ha ha! I love getting parts cars, I just don't have any space for them right now. If I had a place to put them I'd have 50 subarus::cool:

Wow that's not bad!, but that price is pretty steep for me. its a fair price for the car, turbo 4x4 touring wagon with 170k nice. Get it if you can, looks like a solid car. I actually had someone try to give me one like that(not touring) with a new motor and everything, but it was trashed and i had no where to put it.. I wish I hadn't passed on it, there were a lot of good parts there. You might wanna start looking into magical squirrels..he seems to want one pretty bad lol. that car would go for 2000 at most up here. 2500 will get you a completely rust free showroom car with like 100k. they pop up every now and then. or you can get one of the many many many many many cheap subarus here. http://anchorage.craigslist.org/pts/3355628440.html This ones a steal!.. I bet its just hydrolocked even if it is seized I can get a good motor for about 200... i actually have an engine for it already.. just not the money to buy it. I'm kinda subaru spoiled this ones kinda junk but still, you dont see many brats around. http://fairbanks.craigslist.org/cto/3419853274.html this ones pretty nice. http://fairbanks.craigslist.org/cto/3367114621.html I could go on for hours. I'm going to miss being able to get a subaru a day lol

Thanks! If I had known it was going to be this difficult I probably would have just sold the lift to tunradbrat lol\ I'm just glad the hard part is over. I really hope theres some subies down there I dont wanna have to drive a 2wd.. even if they only get like 2 inches of snow. If I cant find a subaru I'll end up gettin a Fiero and sticking a v8 into it. and something tells me that wont be good for my health... yeah I cant imagine theres too many subaru nuts there, not like it really snows or theres any real mountains.

After 8 long hours I finally got everything in the rear installed.:headbang: couldn't with all the tools get that bolt out, so I cut the head off the bolt and welded the lift to the car. driver side went pretty easy. both struts top hat bolts were completely rusted. so I had to cut them off to put the new struts on. plans for tomorrow: front lift, should go smoothly, and front c/vs. I also got some work lined up at that shop, I got a clutch to do tomorrow on a 01 neon. should be pretty easy.

Tundrabrat: wow! That thing looks stout! I'm interested to see how it will look after the lift/tires. next summer we may need to go wheeling and show a couple jeeps how its done:headbang: turbosubarubrat: Thanks! I've been following your thread from the start and i have to say its coming along very nicely! cant wait to see it done and painted. yeah.. I'd rather work on a car than most anything. It doesn't even have to be my car, I work on anyone's car. sometimes when I go to look at a car for sale and decide I'm not interested, I'll fix a couple simple things so they can sell it easier. I just love working on cars. Its something I'm truly good at. And no one wants to see my car lifted more than I do! but when i planned this all out in my head I didn't think about the possibility of a very stuck bolt... I shall not be thwarted be a mere bolt!:-p

yeah I might be moving down to Oklahoma so having some subaru people somewhat near by will be helpful. I don't think I'll even be able to find an old GL there. The problem I was having is I couldn't get it to arc, I'd get as close as i could without touching then it would just spark a little and stick, I could only manage a little bead. But I have the whole day tomorrow to get that bolt out with a shop and a lot of good quality tools at my disposal. I'm going to install the lift even if I have to weld it to the car.
-
Well you might get your wish, my brother lives pretty close to Wichita and I'm planning on visiting him soon so who knows. I still haven't gotten anywhere with that strut bolt. I spent a few hrs doing some "attempted welding". sounds like a crime So tomorrow I'm taking the car to a shop and a guy who knows how to weld. Hopefully his MIG welder will work better than my tiny arc welder. I'm no master welder (I've actually only welded once before.) but I don't think it should be that hard to weld a nut to a bolt.:-\

Thanks! I like to think its pretty fast, any faster and it will get me in trouble.

so just for shiggles i did a 0-60 video:burnout: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2uXAnHbBA0&feature=youtu.be

No problem! Its always good to get some good karma right? How does it sit after it settled? (feel free to post a pic) no progress on my car yet but I'm about to go out and start. Wish me luck!

Ok I need to vent, today I started the long and painful process of removing the stripped rear strut bolt. I got 2 out of the 3 bolts for the passenger side strut off. which is more than I had before. The last one is seemingly inseparable from the car. It was getting late so I decided to give up and put the other 2 bolts back in, and of course that couldn't be too hard right? wrong. The bottom bolt that attaches the strut to the control arm stripped the welded nut. of course. Good news though, after about 35 tense high voltage minutes, I got my welder working again. So now I just gotta get a 17mm nut to weld onto the stripped bolt and find a nut and bolt for the bottom. I haven't even started on the other side yet..hopefully it wont be too much of an issue.HOPEFULLY. In other news I got some more parts for my car. some offroad lights a new front bumper and the trim piece that goes between the bumper and headlights/grill. I also got some new horns as mine are just pathetic. Stay tuned!! Eventually I will be lifted!

Alcan5000 started this past Thursday from Kirkland, WA
AKghandi replied to edrach's topic in Rally/Racing
I hate reviving threads but I had a moment of genius that I have to share. If you go to the very bottom of the alcan5000 page you'll see the alcan5000 was won in 1986 with a Subaru RX 4x4. The next alcan5000 winter rally is in 2016, the 30 year anniversary..... I would think that if someone had an RX, Subaru would sponsor them to do the rally. For the best chance at getting sponsored I would think the car would have to be mostly stock. and high miles would probably be a good thing. It would be great publicity for Subaru "the worst engine we ever made, 30 yrs, and 300k miles later its still winning races, its what makes a subaru a subaru". Or something along those lines. now I wonder who has a really nice RX and would rally... Turbone, got any ideas? :-p I hope to one day run the alcan5000 with a lifted wagon, 2 foot snow drifts? yes please! -
New Ball Joint Question...normal?
AKghandi replied to RXJ's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I don't remember if the BJ I replaced was MOOG but I do remember the metal ring on the boot being a pita. I also don't remember how I got it back on but I did. And it was very stiff compared to the one that was on there. The BJ wasn't bad but I had to replace it, to replace my knuckle because of a stripped BJ pinch bolt. And hey at least you didn't have to deal with a stuck BJ took me 5 hrs, various tools and torches, a few chicken sacrifices, and some hope to get mine out of the control arm. took me 10 minutes after that.. -
no i think he means the little rear wheel air difuser. im not sure if thats what its called but thats what it is. its helps air travel around the rear tire creating less drag.
-
if you point the heater selector at the 4 and wedge a quarter and a nickle or 2 quarters under the knob opposite the 4 it should work indefinitely. Thats what i do. mine only works on 3 and 4. or you can try rebuilding the switch. its pretty easy but there are 2 ball bearings inside, one about the size of a bb and one thats 1/10 that size. one rides around the outside, but i dont know where the other one goes. i lost it.:-p the contacts on the inside get hot and melt into the plastic or get corroded. the springs get weak also, the spring from a bic lighter works if you trim it.

This kit is so nice I almost feel bad only paying $120 for it, I feel like it should be worth $220. Although I'm not complaining:headbang: Thanks!, I'm not really a fan of new music, or today's pop culture. My Generation scares me, I have only found a couple people my age that are even halfway intelligent. most of them are trying to be "gangsta", when their mom still drops them off at school.:lol:I'm not going to get any more cynical but I'm sure I'm not the only one. I have also found a good idiot repellent, blast some "Bohemian rhapsody", "i did it my way","luck be a lady" or "American pie" and sing along full blast while your driving. Anyone who likes "snooki" or "jwow" or updates their FB status every 3 minutes will run screaming.

yessss!!!!!my lift got here!! Thank you Mr.Omlin!! The box was just about to fall apart lol Very high quality for how much I payed, all grade 8 hardware and nice welds. I need to paint it but I got some 99 cent black so that will work. Now I just gotta figure out how to get my rear struts off, as they are oem from 87, so they have some separation issues. my plans are lift, new struts, and new front C/Vs, I now have everything I need. Should have it all done in about a week :banana:

Depends on cash flow, a good running ea82t could be had pretty cheap.(around here anyways.) Or you could find a N/A block and make it turbo. it would also raise the compression ratio. rebuilding would work too but it might start costing more than a donor engine. If you have some money to kick around then obviously get the ej22t.:-p that thing would be "rally" fast. Awesome car btw!

I gotta figure out how to record while i shift. my car does it in about 10 seconds, but i got a turbo and N/A 3.9 gears. so its not really "stock". fun as hell though:headbang:
-
When do you shift your EA82 5 Speed?
AKghandi replied to Ofeargall's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
a redline a day keeps the mechanic away. fisrt thing i do with a subaru after i get it is a tune up. after that i take it on the highway at high rpm to clear it out, you can almost bet the P/O never took it to the redline. i shift at 5500 most the time if i shift too low i just get wheel spin from the torque -
+1 drive it like you stole it, maintain it like its a Bentley. I had another thought, perhaps some highway on-ramp/0-60 videos? partially for comparison, mainly for fun:D
-
Very good video, I didn't think to time the warm up, I might have to do that next time. That looks like a perfect running spfi ea82 to me. its interesting that it took about the same time between our cars to go back down to idle, when you were at about 40F and I was at 22F.. not sure where I'm going with this but i have ADOS attention deficit oohh shinny! I think everyone should do this. because sometimes you need something to compare your car with. Or you'll end up doing what I did and replacing every single sensor. It worked, but my wallet never forgave me, I had to get a new one.:-p A quiet Subaru is like a stealth bomber, I feel invisible when I'm driving.
