AKghandi replied to peacewize's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks! It was very useful, distracting but useful I sold that car a few months ago, and my current car has a trip computer and it still works. so I have the factory clock and all that other advanced 80's stuff. my friend I sold it to loves it lol back up camera is a good idea though, that was my second idea after my gps didn't fit, but like you i didn't have one so i went with the ipod. -
dash clock replacement idea
AKghandi replied to peacewize's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I did this also but with an ipod. way better than the factory clock. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=132867&page=2 I wonder what other things people have stuck in their clock holes:-p -
Well my new rear struts got here:D. So I thought I would install them:headbang: Then I discovered the passenger side, top 2 strut bolts are fused to the car. No amount of heat, or Deep Creep did anything. Now, most of my 1/2" drive 17mm sockets are broken, and one of the bolts is rounded because the socket split... I'm at a complete stand still... My thinking cap is on, but I am very open to suggestions! The first and most available option is to drill it out. But would I be able to get at it from the back?.. Maybe I could heat the welded nut, then spray the bolt with air in a can to cool it? Then turn it with some vise grips..... Hmmmm much thinking to do..

I knew you would ask that:D the transmission seems pretty good, although i only drove it once. it did shift smooth through all gears and there were no odd noises. the mounts are either completely shot or they are unbolted, but since it has a bad clutch and the PO said he tried to do the clutch, im going to guess they are unbolted. it also came with a brand new clutch disc and pressure plate, if you need those too. let me know when you want to do this, the car needs to go soon though. we can pull the struts where it sits and the trany should be easy enough.

I happen to have a parts 4x4 sedan sitting at my brothers house, I'm not sure how the front struts are but i know one of the rears is leaking. If you can bring your old struts back so it will be rollable your welcome to them. I'll even help you get them off. I also have that lower corner trim piece for the rear door on your GL-10. I'm going to take them off my wagon once my lift gets here so if you want you can grab that too. Heres the sedan, its an 88 with 159k and a 5spd D/R, came with a set of pugs too!.which I'm hoarding lol

It was 11 am on the first snow fall. Everyone who had to go anywhere was already gone and normal people don't go out on the first snow fall unless they have to, so I was pretty confident there wouldn't be any traffic. Don't worry, just because I'm 19 doesn't mean I don't think about what I'm doing. I still do it , but at least I thought about it first!

I got some KYB gr/2's ordered and on the way for the rear. AND i got my lift ordered as well so once all that happens i should be sitting pretty stout. its only 2" so nothing spectacular. now we play the waiting game.

I thought i would make a video of a proper cold start. mine is a turbo so it has lower compression, how that affects the starting im not sure. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bd4ThWHR0lc forgive the snorting and hacking, im still kinda sick.:-p

SO, funny story. I think my car has a personalty, in fact I know it does. I pulled in front of my uncles mobile home at an angle, so the back corner of my car was ever so slightly in the dirt road, and the front was almost to the tongue of the trailer. Then an old lady drives by and pulls right next to the back corner of my car and starts screaming at me! "YOU GOING TO MOVE??? huh you STUPID kid!??" I thought to myself "why is she yelling at me? there's plenty of room for 2 cars to pass each other why do I need to move?" so instead of getting angry, I waved and proceeded to move my car just to appease the crazy lady, so she would go away.(its not just me, everyone's afraid of her) I go to turn the key, CLICK!!CLICK!!! so I got out and pop the hood to mess with the battery connections(never happened before, they are/were tight) Then she got all red faced and speed off. My car stood up for me!! That has got to be a first!. And it started right up after she was gone. In other news not much has happened with the car. But I'm starting to feel a lot better so the next week should be pretty busy.

my ea82t starts up within the first rotation and climbs up to about 2500 and slowly idles down to 800. it takes about 5-10 minutes depending on how cold it is. i can start it and drive it instantly no matter how cold it is, i never do, but i could. this to me sounds like a fuel issue on your part. too much or not enough. any tbi subaru i have owned will start and drive just fine no matter the temp check the FPR if its leaking into the vacuum line(which i have seen on mostly loyales)it will cause a bog until its up to OT eventually it will cause hard starts and other problems.. same goes for the fuel filter, during a cold start it uses more fuel to keep it running, so if the filter is clogged then you get boggy cold starts. on the mpfi system there's a high idle screw. its in a recess on the back of the TB. im not sure TBI has one but it might be worth a look. i dont see the problem in you car running 3k rpm for a few minutes that just makes its warmer faster. hope you get it figured out

EA82 motor shut-off
AKghandi replied to 92_rugby_subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
maybe she touched the key with her knee... or is there a large bundle o keys? i have had people ask me why their car shuts off under hard braking or after hard right turns. i look in their car with the 5 or so keys and 50 random dongles and say" that's your problem".:-p if the car hasn't done it to you it might just be something she's doing.. does she have anything she plugs into the cig lighter? something that might cause enough drain to stall out? im not sure what could do that but maybe a power inverter? just food for thought. -
1987 GL10 Turbo, 7 codes and intermittent CEL
AKghandi replied to newrider3's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
with this engine you would be better off to run premium. i always run premium, granted its a little more expensive but its better for the car. especially when the motor should have sploded 10 years ago. if your boost gauge says 10-11 psi, you are over boosting. stock boost on the EA82T is 7 psi. i recommend finding the cause of the extra boost first. and after thats fixed im sure most of the codes will disappear. i hope you get it figured out also can we get some pics of the "offending vehicle"? -
Heater mystery solved! (I hope)
AKghandi replied to jonas's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
try switching the hoses if you can. it will suck some of that crap out and let it flow. -

AKghandi replied to jonas's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
that looks like the result of someone getting angry at that hose with some channel locks. hows the heat now? -
well loyale 2.7 turbo i think the reason no one really comments on your threads is because you cover everything perfectly in detail, so theres nothing really to say:headbang: trust me you are probably one of the most valued members of this fourm.

Good news everyone! my insurance has blessed me with $400. bad news. i think i caught the FLU, its pretty bad. BUT when i get better im going to get my lift sorted out and replace my rear struts and maybe some new speakers.\\ stay tuned.

the ej20tt would fit, if you dont think you need brakes or steering lol.

yes sir, if fuel comes out of the FPR vacuum line, its bad.
-
250k is barely even broken in. and i dont know of any subaru with"easy miles" lol pull the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator and see if fuel comes out. if it does then it explains your power/starting issues. every subaru i've ever had or driven has no problem getting to 65. even fully loaded. if its not the fpr then double check your distributor timing. and re-tension the timing belts. pretty simple. if theres no codes then its a problem with a part of the engine that isnt monitored by the ecm. hows the plugs? are they gaped correctly? cap and rotor, is the center button in the cap springy still? corroded? air filter? tap it on the fender and see if its full of dirt. fuel filter? no real way to check it but they are like $10, and always a good investment. very sweet car, simple, cheap and effective, i have some what the same plan for mine, i just need the lift. i hope you get the power issues sorted:popcorn:

AKghandi replied to newrider3's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Extra boost on reg fuel? No bueno. A perfect running ea82t at most, can handle 12psi and you said your running 11psi? You sir are playing with a grenade with the pin pulled. The maf gets heated by the ECM and cooled by incoming air. So more air means the ECM is working extra hard to get the correct reading. I had my car on extra boost for a while.i ended up replacing all the sensors you mentioned, but it didn't get fixed until I replaced the intake pipe and maf. So I turned the boost down to be safe. No problems since. The studder you get when your pushing it is over boost because of a lean condition. I also get the occasional CEL which I think is related to poor a/f ratio. Because on stock boost I get overboost sometimes. -
First drift of the year!!!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDiOco8ettA Sorry about the quality all i have for video is my ipod. Think i could be a rally driver? what you cant see is the left foot braking and clutch work. its hard to keep a car sideways without a rear ebrake..

need help, tranny only moving forward
AKghandi replied to adrianscott's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
drive the snot out of it! get the gunk out of the valve bodys. maybe try the sea-foam trans tune. if it sat for a while it probably just needs to stretch its legs. -
