  1. doesnt look that rough.. looks really clean actually..oh well. tis neither here nor there.
  2. I have no expirence installig an intercooler but it looks pretty simple. I run my gl-10on a little extra boost during the winter becaue its colder out(-40 regulary) So it doesnt have a problem staying cool i would not recomend that during the summer without an intercooler. It will be the most fun subaru you have ever driven. Especially in the snow. Worse comes to worse you have a wagon with disc brakes and f/i system so its the perfect canidate for an ej swap.
  3. its looking really really good Ralph! i cant wait to see it all painted and lifted. hows your GL running? are you going to be up for some ice races this winter? im getting my gl-10 wagon back, and i figure we could show up some wrx's:brow: i had an rx7 i was going to race...but i rolled it... long story.
  4. there's alot of people who say the ea82t is junk(some even say the ea82 is junk) im not one of those people. theres really only 2 things to worry about overheating and poor maintenance. keep it cool and keep it stock, do regular maintence and drive the everloveing snot out of it!!! (an intercooler might be a good cooling mod, along with elec rad fans to free up a few hp. 87 gl-10 wagon ea82t D/R(sold but i'm getting it back!!!) 250k miles orig engine. stomps every honda with a fart tip ive ever come across.running stock with 10lbs of boost. still going strong. 87 RX 3 door ea82t D/R(sold) 246k miles still going strong. i drove the gl-10 all last winter redlined sliding boosting my rump roast off and i put 6k miles on it like that. it is a monster. i might join up with Tundrabrat this winter to do some ice racing with his 85 gl turbo, show the wrx's who started it all. also crawl under it and check to see if it has a LSD. EA82T FTW!!
  5. They are pretty much identical the biggest difference is loyales didnt come with the dual range transmission. The gl 85-89 and loyales90-94 same car.(aside from a few cosmetic and interior differences)
  6. The suspense is killing me!!!!!!
  7. Check the collant temp sensor its right in front of the turbo behind the intake manifold it can ause issues like that and also the maf can cause problems like those aswell. But those are pretty much the only sensors for the mpfi. My giess is the CTS due to it running better when warm.
  8. i had the same issue with my old gl-10. the intake pipe leaked after the maf so it was confused until the turbo sucked the pipe back onto the maf check your piping. also any cel?
  9. Go coverless. You will thank yourself when the belt breaks. Turns a 45 min job to 20 min job.
  10. I wouldnt put bigger tires on the back.. It'll bind in 4x4 and on snow the back will be going faster than the front...it will drift like a rwd. But you could adjust the rear suspension up to give it a rake..
  11. Im not sure, but if they're wrapped it will probably be ok. I dont think the boot would melt but it might get hot enough to mess with the vulcanization and make the boot more brittle
  12. the time is near! There needs to be alot of videos of this thing! I hope those dump pipes dont't cook that c/v boot:-\
  13. I can almost smell the tire smoke...
  14. Yep. I need to go clean myself up now... I bet that thing will do a wheel stand.
  15. Wow! I cant believe the dealership had one Of those. Thats awesome.
  16. Maf sensor? Unplug it and see if the problem goes away. When you unplug it it will go into a default mode. The only other thing is temp sensor which is on the thermostat housing if you have a multimeter check the resistance cold then warm it up and see if it changes. Check your cap and rotor. If the center button in the cap is stuck it will ark and you'll get weird problems like that. ......your green check connectors are unhooked right?
  17. Well...104k is pretty low for its age i would think it was parked for a long time and that means weathered rubber parts The ea82t is ok when maintained its actually alot of fun but if the HG hasent been replaced recently and hes got more boost thats what i would worry about. My ea82t ran 10psi just fine no ping or knock. So with an intercooler, fresh HG,and a healthy cooling system it should be fine for another 100k if you turn the boost back down. My gl10 wag has 246k stock motor.its still going strong, hondas hate it. I would pay 1500 for it. But haggle you might get it under 1000. then spend the 500 on an ej! Problems solved.
  18. i just bought an 82 rx7 with a lsd solid axle rear end with 3.9 ratio, disk brakes and rear ebrake and i saw on ebay 3.70,4.11 gear sets for this axle. i bet it wouldnt be that hard to put in....
  19. looks awesome! you could just mask off the buttons on the switch... but i would be worried about paint getting in the switch and fouling things up. but pulling it apart and painting it separate would be pretty easy, just pull the case apart with the buttons pointing up, IIRC that would keep the rockers in place.(i had to put that puzzle back together once....PITA) i cant wait to see what else you do to it with everything going black that snorkus will look right at home :-p
  20. i went to the local parts store and rented a balljoint puller... before i did that i spent 5 long angry hours trying to get it out. torches, hammers, logs, sacrificing chickens, and alot of pb blaster mine wasnt even rusted, after i got the tool it still took alot of effort and 3 guys to get that magical "pop!" have fun! if you have the income to take it to a shop....DO IT!!
  21. Go to craigslist theres a couple ea81 wagons in the valley for pretty cheap. Welcome to alaska! And usmb Maybe all us alaskans can get together and go shred some trails
  22. Yep thats how i got my hatchie. In 2wd in gear foot off the clutch youll hear it rotating.
  23. hmmmm me think a new filter, fluid and inspecting the governor is in order... i remembered i switched the drive shaft off my parts car so thats a no go,,,
  24. Mine will spin them a little in the rain..but not into second lol..
  25. my 3at will not do more than 85, at 5500rpm..and trying to get wheel spin is pointless :-p..i miss my gl-10... I've got a complete 5speed parts car, $22.50, and 3 days off. i might have make some "adjustments"
