... I know I said that I wasn't going to replace the headunit... but this one was so perfect I just had to..Its a Dual xr4110 i got it out of a car we sent to the crusher, so it was free! it mounts just like the stock stereo, i had to re route the antenna from under the carpet to under the dash so it would reach the new headunit wiring it up is basic wiring. the Dual is actually shorter (looks longer, but it isn't. I had to take it apart to re-solder the aux port. came apart very easily. it was slightly challenging to solder such small connections but i managed. and now theres no craptacular fm transmitter so the sound quality improved drastically. And it has amp preouts! over all very I'm satisfied, it sounds great, and looks stock.. heres a video to explain it a little better and to show the sound quality.........excuse me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57Ov_xFvTvU -
Woot! Im famous! I also went striaght for the door jam. I actually pulled the whole door off took it inside pulled the whole harness out, tested every wire, and rebuilt all 4 switches. Just to find out it was that plastic crimp under the carpet..you know ive got a parts car maybe ill go cut the carpet out and get a pic for the usrm.

Broken key in ignition
AKghandi replied to biffanyus's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Ive been there but i usually just grab my handy dandy lock pick set and get out the "broken key extractor" works quite well. Its like a thin blade with a barb on the end. It slips past the key and the barb grabs the key teeth You could probably make one out of something. maybe a hacksaw blade? This is where i got my tools-->http://www.lockpicktools.com not sure if its helpful at all but thats my solution. btw lock picks are not illegal to have. they are only illegal if used in a crime. bump keys however are locksmith only. -
Sticking valves Spider 82T engine .

+1 Ive heard good things about seafoam maybe give that a shot. But Don't pour the water into the turbo though. If you undo all the pipeing and unplug the maf it should still run. Not happily but it will run.(wont boost) Ive got a video of me doing it on my old gl-10 (bad maf) its on youtube called subaru problems under my account "lockpickman" -
Error Code 35 in an 86 XT Turbo?...
AKghandi replied to retroxt's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
86xt turbo is mpfi I had an 86xt dl with no options not even a back seat but it was still mpfi. it should have an airflow meter(the thing on the airbox) The egr solenoid is under the intake on the passenger side closer to the firewall. If you follow the vacuum lines it should lead to the EGR. Unless the car in question has been modified it should have those. -
Thats what happens when you put an axle on 180 out and then force the roll pin in with shear hatred.. Glad to see you got it out though! Its funny you mention Dunder head mechanics..thats how i get most of my cars, some idiot trys to fix it then makes it worse. I buy it cheap then fix the stupitity. I had a car with a similar issue. 25spline axles on 23spline stubs..nothing turning the wheels but the roll pins.im glad i never really romped on it till after those were replaced.

high/low vs pushbutton 4wd differential question
AKghandi replied to kabarakh's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It depends on the ratios. Clean off the cover and see if the sticker is still there If both cars are non turbo then it should work. Theres 2 ratios 3.90 (non turbo) and 3.70(turbo) there might be a different ratio on the autos but im not sure what that is. As far as how they mount they all mount the same. -
Awesome! Glad to hear its fixed.

The way you describe it it sounds like a wrist pin... Hopefully not..

What should I take from this 89 XT6?
AKghandi replied to ABawm 88 GL's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i would probably just fix it.. xt6's are very quick.. but if it were beyond repair then take EVERYTHING! theres nothing on that car that isnt worth pulling...except for the electric p/s my brother had an 87 gl wagon dual range that had a factory lsd. it was a monster. -
"Haha the powerbait paintjob was kinda "getting silly with it"." power bait/lure lol thats what i first thought when i saw it,

Weird rattling/ clicking noise
AKghandi replied to Moosen's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
shake the drive shaft and see if its the carrier bearing. it shouldn't move much if any. its a long shot but there's not a whole lot else it could be..:-\ -
Rear Bearing or Differential bad ?
AKghandi replied to abcus's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Carrier bearing? I did one on a 92 loyale not even 2 days ago with the exact symptoms you decribe. It did seem to be louder on the pass side. and disappeared when in reverse Shake the drive shaft and see if its bad, the drive shaft shouldn't have any noticeable play, and it should turn easily. put it in 2wd and remove the 4 bolts holding the drive shaft to the rear diff, then turn it this is how bad mine was as you can see this car was horribly maintained and beaten senseless by somebody -
Awesome! I got friday off so i may have to come Out and give you a hand. You know... You have a welder so you could just delete the mid cat and put striaght pipe there.. Might be easier.

Made my day. Completely I can go to bed happy knowing a subaru beat a pleathera of v8 lifted monsters... i have a strange urge to lift my car, add big tires and find a mud hole...
-
Wow. Those rims are amazing.you definatly need those on your new one. sorry to hear about your first one..i bet the driver at the time got more than a stern talking to about that..... Thank you for fixing the paint, that was horrible..why would they do that to a poor defenseless japanese import?? Sweet car though, in the same position i would do exactly what your doing. But i might have left the body kit and just matt black'd it.

Yep we have all experienced the dreaded clunk.. First thing i do when i hear a clunk is check EVERY bolt then i start pulling/ prying till i find something that looks odd or broken. If that doesnt work i get creative...once i had to work that clunk till it got so bad I'd have to be deaf and blind not to find the issue. Then i repaired accordingly. Not the best method, but when theres a gremlin sometimes you gotta get on ITS nerves till it rears its ugly little head...Plus, who here doesnt like working on their car?
