So that concludes part one. getting it running right. part two will be dealing with a leaking wheel cyl on the drivers rear, and putting new shoes on fixing the door latches and hooking everything up properly. there are a few odd quirks. like some time the drivers lock wont unlock the door but will unlock the others, and if you turn the key a little harder it will open the door.. fixing the windows they all work, but they dont all work from the drivers panel. probably just need a rebuild. and putting on the quads. not all in that order. part three will be lift and tires... I'm excited! not sure how much lift I want. I'm thinking 2" but at the same time 4" would be fun... I have however decided on tires already. general grabber at2 27x8.5 r14's have not decided on what part 4 will be. probably fixing up the body a bit

So today I completed the engine swap. no big hang ups aside from a few derps on my part. and now pics! pulling the old engine new engine waiting to be put in We cut the roof off the parts car to have a nice work station old engine out lots of muck in the timing covers Cleaning the engine bay cleaner.. threw some paint on the crossmember new engine, ready to be put in.... yeah fram filter i know but i had a new one laying around so i made the best of it. engine back in and running!!!!!! and we duct taped the roof back on the parts car to have some where to store the old engine. now that the engine has been replaced it has gobs more power and hasn't acted up yet. I haven't driven alot yet but things are looking good. i took off from a stop and i thought the clutch was slipping... turns out i was spinning the tires...

85 ea82 wag 2" boss lift 215/75/r15 bfg mud terrain km2's carby dual range. now snorkeled.. 4 runner/ accord spring rear suspension

use the old timing belt as a wrench, thats how i tighten everything in the timing side.
-
so today i got my lazy butt out of bed and went and put a new oil pan gasket on the new motor and a fresh timing kit. motor has great compression. not as clean as i would like but i dont exactly have the best cleaning suplies... degreaser a small wire brush and a hose with cold water.. after its in the car and running i'll take it to the car wash and clean the bejeasus out of it.

I cant wait to see this working, LSD front and welded rear? should be a tractor. i remember reading that the early pathfinders use an 4eat that is made by the same company that made the subaru one. might be worth a gander to see if one could be adapted. would be higher clearance and it would have a T-case built in.

I suppose I should probably explain why I'm swapping the engine. the engine thats in it right now leaks like the xon valdez.. from everywhere. including the head. there is something mechanical wrong inside the motor. not sure what all but i know that its at least a headgasket. the #3 cyl spark plug was bright and shiny, and the rest were semi normal and there is a rather quick coolant loss the coolant wasnt milkshake but it wasnt bright green, kind of like a seafoam green....i cant believe i know what seafoam green is.. there is also a pretty scary TINK kinda noise when its doing its little bucking routine. not spark knock or ping but something mechanical.. so i figured with it needing a reseal, new timing kit, and mos likely a new headgasket or head. why not just do this all to a different motor that was known to be good and put it in instead. not like a motor swap on these cars is real hard I feel like I'm talking to myself.. hmm..

weirdest thing happend to me today...
AKghandi replied to AKghandi's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
indeed I did sell the car, its recently been sold again and Im now friends with the new owner. the problem hasn't happend again that im aware of. -
So today I decided.. screw it. Im swapping the engine. Pulling the engine from the parts car Engine pulled. the timing belt was stripped. Cleaning it up a bit. Covers gone. new oil pump gasket, and new valve cover gaskets. the lifter pressure release valve was just sitting in the head and it fell out so that will have to be addressed. the spring and bolt is there and I suspect the ball bearing is in the oil pan. Tomorrow I will be cleaning it up some more and putting on the new timing kit and friday I'll throw it in. trying to decide if i want to paint some stuff and make it look better..

So after some research ive decided to change the tps also. After that ill start looking for mechanical problems. Do these have a knock sensor? And where might it be

looks sweet! best wishes with your new addition...hopefully is doesn't act up as my latest adoption.

I am very irritated.. Today I replaced everything, fuel pump, filter, pump relay. injector, FPR, IACV, CTS, MAF, ,distributor, coil, isolator, even the ECM. it got a complete igniton tune up with new cap rotor wires and plugs. the problem still persists. I have no idea where to go from here. the only other thing i can think of is maybe the cam timing being off is causing it. or that the intake mani gaskets are the problem or maybe its a bad gas pickup.. but when i pulled the pump gas flowed out of the feed like Niagara the issue is it will run just fine for a while, but then pop and sputter buck and lose power, like its running out of gas. Tomorow i plan on replacing the intake manifold gaskets and the gas tank and filler neck, i know the filler leaks so i figure might as well do the tank too. I need help.. please. someone. before I light it on fire..

Time for an update as its been a month and the car hasnt moved. I drained the gas tank and put fresh gas in it but that didnt seem to help. So i got a new fuel pump.. it was a carter box with an airtex PN but in the box was a genuine subaru pump! I also got the oil pump seal and I also got a parts car, 1988 DL spfi 4wd dem quads The DL has a bad timing belt and A LOT of rust. So in a few days I will be stripping every thing off the DL and putting most of the parts in storage. the quad headlights and the front bumper will be going on my car and the engine will be going in my brothers wag.

Power to Roller Window Conversion?
AKghandi replied to pudd7575's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
dont replace the switch, very easy to rebuild them. theres just a couple contact rockers inside. they corrode or get stuff in them. -
i just unbolted it and called it a day...
-
yeah sorry I just cannot afford that right now. that method would work but i dont have a decent welder.
-
Ill be in the market for the 2" with the drop. Ill let you know when i have the money.

It should be a lot of fun, other people who have done this swap have gotten low 13's on a stock 3800sc. I'm not going to go too crazy with it till i can find a 4t65-hd trans that came mated to this engine originally, the 282 getrag 5 spd that I will be using for now wont hold up to the power this engine is capable of. I have always loved fieros, and when I was 17 I owned one, and dreamed of doing this swap. now that I am 21 and I have the means and the knowledge I will finally have it. other plans for the car include sleeper-ing it which means ditching all the sporty body peices. the only part I dont have is the side skirts, as my car has aftermarket ones. This is what I want it to look like, except black

So I love subarus, but I also love Fieros. If you dont know what they are google it. this is my Fiero, I bought it on a whim a few months ago It is a 1986 Pontiac Fiero with a v6 and an automatic. I bought it from the orignal owner with 106k. it has a 2.8l v6 that has been bored .60 over with high comp pistons, a larger camshaft, a balanced rotating assembly, and a full porting. I have been drooling over this car for a long time as it has been sitting down the street from my house for about 10 years. When I finally got the cash to offer to buy it the guy said yes and it was mine! now heres where things get fun. about a month ago I bough another 1986 fiero, which is also T-top, as rare as that is. the reason I bough the other one is someone went through alot of effort to swap in a 3800SC motor from a 99 grand prix GTP it is also mated to the fiero 5spd.' the swap is mostly complete aside from a few things, so in about a month when I get some spending money I plan on finishing the swap and putting the whole drivetrain into my car. should be around 200hp to the wheels after I do a few small upgrades. with the potential for a whole lot more >

Leave the rs lifted and make a fun car out if it. You can baby the rx. After all if you put an rs Nd an rx side by side no one would even know the difference. On a side note there was an rs for sale here i got all hot in the rump roast for it because i thought the ad was a typo.. i get there and its NA AUTO.and rustys as hell and he wanted 2500

Ellevehc's gl build thread
AKghandi replied to ellevehc's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
last time i dealt with those sort of problems it was because the secondary plates were being held open by an adjuster screw, but this was on an 81 camaro with a barry grant holley double pumper knock off. -
it really is night and day difference. i have loaded the whole cargo area with the seats folded down full of fire wood, about 400lbs. and drove it a few miles down a trail to a bonfire site and didnt even bottom out.. the engine complained more than the rear suspension
