  1. Don't worry too much it will go nice on the 510 wagon :)

Does the soob have rear mudflaps? If it does I will have them, along with the rear side markers, rear door handles ( the little ones to shut the doors with inside) and the scraper seals off all 4 doors and a complete lock/key set if all that is still availible?

  2. Just spent the last couple of weeks investigating a strong smell of fuel hanging around the hatch only to find a totally rotted filler neck and pinholes in the tank...

Tank fixed, new filler neck fabricated to exact specs of original, all refitted only now I can only get half a tank in before it reaches the top of the filler.....

What is the the relevance of the black box with three pipes that sits up in the boot behind the plastic liner?

All pipes have been replaced and in the correct order.

Also, what is the small breather by the filter? Would this be blocked somehow? Haven't tried air lining it till I know what it is and wether it's one way etc or not.

Seems odd it was brimming fine before I took the lot out....unless now my senders faulty reading only half when in actual fact it's full :/

Just wondered if anyone else had similar issues.

    Cheers

  3. Ok,they are both solid needing very little if any welding.

The gl just needs painting and putting back together with prep for paint and a better engine,it has a 5speed box from a gen 2 fitted by previous owner which needs minor modifications on mountings to work perfectly. But is all complete.

The gft is original and untouched, has minor surface rust from storage on all panels but is by no means rotten.

Needs work to drivers window which has come off the runners and an exhaust.

Has 1600 twin carb ea71 in it and 5 speed box.

Unsure of shipping to USA,I know it cost me a lot to get my dl wagon back here from Australia but I was impatient and wanted it ASAP lol

If you want more pics just shout :)

  4. I'm putting an ea81 into mine, mainly because it does all the things you describe yours as doing and it's had the valves/ heads etc done already.......plus I would as you say like to make it a bit more dependable.

The ea81 engine and box I have came out of a gen1 brat anyhow so should fit straight in with little hassle....that's the plan anyway.

As for keeping it original you can always keep the ea71 kicking about to put it back in if you need to.

  5. After having a long overdue clear out of the garage I realise I have a complete ea81 engine and the 4wd hi/lo box it was mated to that I pulled out of a rusty 1980 gen 1 brat some time ago.....how do you guys reckon this will slot into the wagon? I'm assuming it was standard fit as it doesn't look messed around with, stood it next to the gen2 trans I have and the mountings etc are different so it's hopeful,I'm just wondering if the wagon/brat used the same box prop shaft etc......might sound daft me asking on here but car is away in storage ATM so can't get to it to measure up........

  6. Brilliant,thanks guys   :)

I have a crossmember/rack out of a later model '84 hatchback which im assuming will go in with an EA81, do i keep the stock '78 box though? or is it the box out of a later model gen 2you speak of having to space the lever out on?

As for gearboxes I have a very late '80 gen 1 box with Hi/Lo transfer box on it,the box thats in my wagon at the mo is just 2wd/4wd,and it is knackered as it wont stay in 4wd for long....i also have an '89 gen 2 brat box with Hi/Lo ratio transfer and also if i really need it an '84 hatchback with a 2wd/4wd box in....just wondered which would be the most straighforward to put in without too much modding with regards to propshafts etc....  :/

(i have a '78 coupe sat here waiting a new home if you fancy hiring a container lol   :P )

  7. Just wondered if it could be done without too much hassle, tired old 1600 in the wagon is starting to fail epically and have a low mileage EA81 1800 sat in the garage that i know is good...also have the gearbox to go with it but wondered wether length etc would affect it fitting.

If not itll be swapsied with the last 1600 lump i have that ive not heard running or anything, was pulled out of a rotten brat about a year ago :/

Want to get it winterproofed and capable as apparently we are in for a bad one this year.

    Thankings :)

  8. I need quite a few bits for mine but my head has gone blank lol

I know i do need x2 interior door handle trims and x2 of the inner handles that you shut the rear door with, little plastic things that look like they came off some kiddies wardrobe or something...

Bumper end caps for the square bumpers, front and rear

    Rear mudflaps

tailgate lock and both front door locks with key that matches would be helpful

    Rear side marker lights

Thats all for now but im sure there is more..... :)
