  1. Man, last winter i drove from Los Angeles to Bend, OR to see my mom. About 14 hours into my drive with only 30 min to go I lost both bolts in the driver side. I messed around with it for about 20 min. trying to get it "patched up" just to get to her house, I put a longer bolt with a bunch of washers in it, drove about a mile and lost it too. I spent the next 30 miles doing about 35 mph. I went and bought a bunch of bolts the next day, everything seemed tight, no leaks, good to go. Yeah right. I drove it a week that way, started home, about 100 miles into the trip i lost both bolts. Since it was freaking freezing and about to get dark I striped 3 pieces of braded speaker wire, threw in a bolt with some lock washers and nine months later it's still holding. What a pain in the butt.
  2. I did that when i was young and broke, I blew up the 390ci engine in my 56' Ford pickup and swapped plates with my 70' ford pickup which had a modified 429 cobra jet. The truck was ugly but fast, 425hp, 475 ft lbs of torque, and a top speed of 130mph. (Not only was i young and broke but stupid as well for driving a 1970 Ford truck at 130 mph.) Anyway, i got pulled over for noise pollution, wrong plates, no insurance, expired license. He let me go with a warning, then I went home and changed my shorts.
  3. I hav'nt done anything to it recently, however I did just make a deal on some 2.2 motor mounts and also just picked up a mint condition intercooler out of a volvo 740 with all the piping for $32.00. It is all coming together soon i hope, just need the adapter plate, a downpipe to match my turbo and fab a y-uppipe. Then i can start my transplant project into my GL wagon.
  4. Hello,

I hear that you do 2" lift kits. If this is in fact the case could you please give me a cost shipped to Palmdale, CA 93550? 87' GL 4x4 Wagon

    Thanks, Chaz

  5. Yes replace the oil pump shaft o-ring at same time, should come with the mickey mouse gasket. These will get hard and loose and start to pour oil, if the shaft moves around at all when you try to move the pully from side to side then it is prob also leaking.
  6. Wow man, i wish i had seen this earlier, i just bought all my business cards, invoices and crap this morning. Hmm, i will be getting with you for a quote on vinyl lettering though. How well does your vinyl hold up, to like southern Cali heat? I did the signage on my marque two years ago, and part of it is almost completely faded.
  7. Wow Man, I'm getting 25-28 consistantly with my 87' GL with an EA82 and 5 speed 4wd. I just moved a 3 hours drive and had the wagon loaded down with my EJ22 I am planing on swaping, all my tools and stuff and still flew up a fairly steep 3 mile hill at 60 in 4th gear. But i would imagine the Weber, polished and ported heads and dual exhaust help quite a bit.
  8. Woops, i meant preasure plate that sits against the clutch, someone told me it might be the throwout bearing starting to seize up. 87' GL wagon EA-82 with a HI/Low 4wd 5 speed. The only symptom is that i can hear it chattering, more so after i have had it in 4wheel, then shift back to 2 wheel.
  9. hmm, that sounds stinky, do you know what would cause it to crack?
  10. I just had to share this. Last weekend i was coming home from the market and i left the parking lot rather quickly because i was trying to make the light at the intersection. When i first got in the car there were two guys a couple spaces away from me who's attention i attracted when i started the engine. I have an EA82 with 2 barrol Weber, custom dual exhaust with cherry bombs for mufflers, so it's a little on the loud side. When i started the engine they both looked over at me, then at each other and started laughing heartily, which was another reason i left the lot at an accelerated pace. Well, they pulled out and joined me at the light, i was in the left lane, they in the right, still laughing, gawking and now revving their engine in the form of a challenge. On the other side of the intersection about 200 feet beyond, the right lane merges with the left. I goosed the engine a couple times to accept the challenge, then dropped it into 1st gear, in 4 low, and revved her to 4k. When that light changed, i went through gears like a homeless man through fried chicken and by the time the right lane ended they were a good 4 car lengths behind me. They just turned off in shame, i have not laughed that hard in a long time. My apologies, it was an RX-8
  11. I have to asume that the flexplate is pinging/chattering when driving. Anybody know why, and how to make it stop? Thank you
  12. I get between 25 & 28 hwy in my 87' gl wagon, ea82 and 2 barrol weber, 300+ miles on a tank, always
  13. When i was 20 i transplanted a ford 429 cobra jet into my 1970 Ford Truck. I went from about 280 horse with the stock 390 to about 425 horse and 475 foot pounds of tourqe. I stomped on it a couple times(of course) and tore one of the motor mounts, rather than pull the engine to change it, i bought two sections of heavy chain, bolted it to both sides of the engine and welded other ends to the frame. I never had a problem after that, i wonder if something like this would work here?
  14. Sorry, yeah EJ swap, fortunatly my Dad pluged the lines when he switched it. Very cool, thank you.
  15. Hey, sorry to intrude but i have a quick question. My 87 gl wagon used to be fuel injected, but was switched to a two barrol weber. Are my existing fuel lines from the EA fuel injection going to work okay? Thank you
  16. Nice, notice how I got both my h4s in my avitar

  17. Glad you're back bro, notice how I blamed it on Mark? lol If it was'nt him it was his twin, ooooh, I just got a cold shiver.
  18. WOO HOO!! The oil pump shaft had no signs of wear, but that shaft seal was so loose i pulled it out with my fingers and it was hard as a rock. I know that the Mickey Mouse seal was leaking some since it was smashed flat and torn in one section and the shaft seal was leakingeven more. I did put it back together and drove it easy and no leaks, so i drove it hard for a couple miles and still no leakes. The crank shaft seal is still soft and plyable, so i'll just put it in the back with my spare timing belts. Thank you all for your help, I really appreciate it.
  19. The oil pump shaft seal was really worn, I think its the culprit, since I dont have the main seal yet, and i can put it back together in about 30 min I will see if this is it. As you can see it is really bad.
  20. Okay, The new main seal will be here tomorrow, so i tore the engine down to that point again. When I took the two sprokets off the crank, they were dry with no fresh oil and it does not look like it is leaking, directly under it though is the oil pump sprocket and the block around it has no grease just fresh oil. I am going to take the oil pump back off as I have found that I also have an oil pump shaft seal, it looks just like a main seal only smaller.
  21. Well, its not the pump gasket, or at least not entirely. As it turns out my older brother owned this engine and put the oil pump on with a used crushed gasket that he had pulled off another car and filled the gap with silicone. Any way I changed that hoping it was the prob. It appears that was not the problem, next stop, main seal, which should be fairly quick and simple I think. Just remove crank pulley and belt, pull it carefully and tap new one in with socket. Is there anything else obviouse that is could be? It is not sending unit either. Thank you.
