no loss in economy here either. I don't like 5w30 only b/c back in the olden days....90 legacy 2.2 if you read the manual it told you not to run it unless it was really cold. It is not intended for "high speed driving" as they say someting like that. My impreza 1.8 as we speak has 15w40 (3.5 qt)and 1 qt of 10w30 in it. Its happy

when I had my 2.5's I always ran 15w40 yearround but in the winter I would replace one qt.. with 10w30 to lighten it up a little. Guys at a jiffy lube in las vegas almost had a heart attack when I told them to put 15w40 in a then new 2002 OB wagon. It ended up comming down to...do it or I'm leaving. back in the old ea-82 days I liked 15w40 b/c it made my motor really quiet and the oil pres. was really good too!

agree with Cougar...both of those caps are bad.
-
they are more stable than you think.... better than a samaruai atleast.
-
Don't knock the tracker....I'd wheel it....think of it as a poor mans wrangler or a "new age" samaruai. Either way if it is 4wd and is $500 i think I would beat it like a red-headed step child for a while....

quad bulbs on GL suck. Replacments?
subeman90 replied to subeman90's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think the wireing is good but I will check when i do the swap. The lens' are yellowish and actually look dirty inside?! Back when I had my 86 hatch I had the same issue and bulbs pretty much did the job....but things and technology has changed since then.... -
My 83 quad lights suck. they are all yellow and I believe they are the orig. bulbs. I figure i should replace them...but with what? Anyone buy any lights that are other then the GE Halogen bulbs? Silverstar? etc? TIA:D

Wrangler all the way...... we went from a forester to a wrangler. Night and day difference. If i was you i would keep the forester and buy an older wrangler "yj" and use it for the off road rig. You can get them cheap as heck in my local newspaper....I see you are in Reading....if you want me to keep my eyes open for you I will since I am only about 20 miles away. PM me if you want to talk a little more.....

I bought a bunch of years ago a 92 legacy turbo sedan in Rockford Il. It was about a 1600 mile round trip to get a car I bought for $750 that had a bad automatic in it. We (it was my dad and I that went in his 95 full size chevy)rented a trailer here and took the trailer out with us to get the car and put it on the trailer for the return trip. Then on the return trip we were about to Somerset PA on the PA TPK and I got the "runs" if you know what I mean......the last leg of the trip was awful.:-\ Good times....good times.

Auto Seat Belt issues!?!?!?!
subeman90 replied to Bucky92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you know there is a way you can crank them back so they work right but you will have to engage them manually. I know this doesn't fix a damn thing but atleast you will be safe. -
honestly....I think you are expecting too much. I really hate to say that but i'm afraid so. I had an 02 OB with the cold pkg on it (all the crap you have) and in the snow i could get both tires to spin in the back but one would have less "rooster tail" action then the other did by far. This was on a car with 4k miles too....so even from new I think they might help but are marginal at best. What would be really cool though.... EDL (electronic diff lock) for the rear axle.

top of the world trip?
subeman90 replied to Snowman's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
I'd be down for it if it wasn't for all of the other stuff holding me back.... I have often thought about going up there....only problem for me though is I am starting out on the wrong side of the US... Wouldn't mind doing a cross canada trip too. -
I went from an 8" self amplified bazooka in a 95 Imp wagon to a factory sub in an 05 Imp wagon. The bazooka is a lot more bassy but all I really wanted was depth and not booty shaking stuff. I was happy with the factory one and am looking for one to put into my 95 Imp coupe. There are gain adjustments on the factory one but i never messed with it.... maybe if i did i would have been really rockin. As for splicing them together???? How good are ya at wireing? there might be your answer. *maybe* if you have 2 though you might want to put them on a relay because the draw from the 2 mgith be too much for the intended circuit. Mounts: if you buy it for a legacy and try it in a forester i think the bracket is different...i did this years ago and had some issues...nothing that can't really be worked with though.

Why no article on this and furthermore.....i need to do it ASAP! Tips (special secrets/tricks of the trade) from anyone would be greatly appreciated! TIA!

(it just sort of fell from the sky) 99 legacy 30th ann. edition (2.2) just turned 60k and got it for about $7800ish (I wasn't along when they got it) Local car when new (Reading PA) and was traded at a Toyota dealer in Reading then wholesaled to this lot about 2 miles away from my house. Told ya he (my dad) was a little lazy.... Anyhow woohoooo for a sweet ride for my folks. on the 1-5 bananna scale: totally-->

subeman90 replied to moosens's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
if we have to wait untill the begining of Nov. so what..... I *think* snow wise we should be ok.... its not like were in Ct or anything... Paul, your not the only one that is squeeking right now.... -
You know what is really strange about my car???? the damn thing flies. i couldn't believe it when I bought it and it was even out of time when I got it. you should have come over to the CT meet last weekend....i was there with the 83...I would have let ya drive it around the block.

my dad knows all about the HG problems.... he saw it happen to me so he said "If I buy a subaru i don't want one that has the same engine as your 2 did" I checked out the KBB on that one with 32k on it. they are way out of line on that thing.... I think we are going to drive the OBS on sat. just to check it out a little bit more. One of the biggest issues with shopping with my dad is he is lazy/busy. he doesn't like to venture too far from home b/c he thinks "you should be able to find the same thing closer to home" The OBS is less than 7 min with stopping for all the red lights it is that close to me. the other 2 are a little further but he went there with me b/c I had to P/U the impreza... (which was a scarry deal all of its own) Can't the 2.2's of that vintage go to 75K for the t-belt? I told him about svc'ing the trans and the diffs etc. which I will gladly do for him. Great points everyone....keep 'em comming

Without getting into a really lousy story....my parents need a car. mom wants a 4wd CAR. (wonder what she really wants hint:subaru) this car will be used and under $10k (the more under...the better) Here is what we found: (all listed are AWD/automatic) 95 legacy LS 32K. nice shape but a little pricy (at a soob dealer) $8900* Has a deposit on it but sales mgr. didn't think the guy would be able to get the money. 99 Impreza L wagon. upper 40K sight unseen (not traded yet) $9900 (soob dealer) 98ish (could be a 99 to a 97) OBS. 58k (mom and pop car lot) $6395 The top 2 weren't haggled with at all (this is their asking price) and the bottem one is what they offered to sell it for straight sale/cash money. The OBS has 2 dings that the dent DR. is going ot fix and one bump that needs bodyshop attn. I figure it will cost about $200-300 (it really isn't bad it just looks bad b/c there is spray paint on it) My question: is cheaper really better? and what should I look for with these specifically when the time comes to get down and dirty?????

I'm with Paul.... I'd sell the ss (or hook my dad up) and buy more soobs. The only muscle car I would like isn't really all the muscular. I'd like one of those Dodge Chargers that had the really big and long back window. I think they were around the '66 era....with a 383 in it.If I had the room i would start my own Pensylvania chapter of "the first church of the subaru....." One of my biggest issues with old cars though... Carburators. I hate em. (that includes the one on the 83 too)
