  1. I have had/have 3 outbacks. 2 were OBS and one was a legacy OB and all of them were the top color in the jams. Same with the forester in my sig too. Matt
  2. Please tell us which dealer this was that didn't do so well with the 83. I like to keep things like this in the back of my head for refrence. Matt
  3. consider a replacement from ebay??? Might be cheaper then having a stereo shop pull the coinage and fix the bulb. I had a buddy (electronics degree) fix a bulb in a radio once.....very involved and a royal PIA. Ebay might be the way to go here. Matt PS helpful hint: Keep a cassette in the player (not in the whole way but just inside the door) so the kid can't put money in there. (atleast there isn't any in the CD player (that you know of))
  4. If your brat has anything for tires on it it will be quite fun in the snow (my old 79 wagon was a blast) Matt
  5. THAT IS NOT BFE...... Thanks for the info. on those etc. I didn't know I had a rally supply shop so close to home..... I figured they were west coast people until I saw the area code. Matt
  6. Another free bump. Also offering my place as a depot for any parts from the south or to the south... Let me know if I can be of help to anyone..... Matt
  7. When I had my XT (push button 4wd) I always hit the clutch before I pushed the button. One time I did have a clunk too though....my tires were a little off in their inflation (front vs rear) so I think that was a factor too. Also, since you were under power at disengagement is there a possibility of wheel slip that could have made the transition a littel abrupt too. Matt
  8. uuuummmm...the FWD indicated that the car is locked in Front Wheel Drive not Four Wheel Drive. If you don't believe me go out and do a burnout or heck you most likely have snow anyhow..... trust me on this...your in FRONT wheel drive. Matt
  9. If I was you I would call around a little and don't be afraid to drive a little to get a good deal. I went up to Bill Kolb Jr subaru in SE NY state on friday and was talking a little with them. They seemed decient people to work with but if you are really into working it a little call up Becker subaru in Allentown PA and see what they will do for you. Subaru's web site really makes it easy to find dealers and to search their stock of cars.... Good luck on your search...I've been lookin myself for about 2 months now... Matt
  10. If people from the VA area want to work some of the stuff up here to my place I am only a few miles off the PA TPK and could put them in my shed for this gentleman to PU. I don't care what it is but no cars (unliscened and uninsured) but whatever else I am willing to store for the good of the cause..... If I can help in anyway with this "move" of parts let me know.... I think what you are doing NorthWet is awesome and very cool too! Matt
  11. not trying to be nosey but what are you getting in PA? I already know what Paul is getting but what could be so good that you would tow it 2500 miles? OHHHHH the suspense, Matt
  12. a 96 OB manual is a 2.2 but a 96 automatic is a 2.5. 96 was a transition year. Any info you find about a 2.5 will NOT apply to the 2.2 as long as you are sure it is a 96 and is stick. The basics about the t-belt and all that stuff is a good idea to ask in general about most cars.... Matt
  13. hey sawiesue....what dealer do you work at? I will be looking into buying a car soon and would deal with someone who is a board member if at all possible. Matt
  14. Here's the story in the shortist version available....I want to buy an sti but the wife says heck no....actually it sounds more like F- no but anyhow I have some strange thoughts in the back of my head... My impreza isn't worth a heck of a lot on trade so I might make a few changes to it (why give it away) I am thinking about making an all motor (read:NA) engine for it. What would you build and what would you use??? I am not made of money and I want to be more than a WRx but realistically I don't think it is possible to build a 300hp NA engine. I have been looking at gears and front lsd's and I have an idea of what i want. In the end I want the car to be able to put more down on the rollers than a WRX and I want some gearing for "excessive speeds" (capable of 150-165 would make me shart my pants) What do you folks think....just remember the catch...I will most likely buy a new car so I can take the 'prez off the road to do this....I need to make car payments and not have a garage queen! Dreaming sequence starts....now. Matt
  15. I had a sparkplug blow once on my old legacy. They fixed it and all was well. If your car was flashing a CEL then you might need to get the computer reset because it obviously knew that there was a problem and it was trying to tell you so. Now the comp. might not know any differently and somebody needs to reset it. This is what I would do before I was to get too excited... How are your plug wires??? They (specifically the one that was on the plug that blew) might have been damaged and you just can't see it. Do you have new wires on the car too??? Matt
  16. I believe there is some merit to putting the car on a hill to do the cooling burping. I read about this on a Vanagon site once because they have problems like us soob owners with air in the system. As for the person with the SUS....if you can get away without a t-stat...go for it and save your pennies. I did it once to get me by for a little while. Matt
  17. I went from an 02 Legacy OB to my 95 impreza OB and I wasn't the happiest at first. The impreza had crappy 14" tires on it and was rather blah to drive. Now I put some WRX 16's on it and now I sometimes like to screw with people just because it holds the road like it is bolted to it and it lets me show some people up in the cornering dept. My car is the old 1.8 engine so by no means is it fast but what it lacks in speed it makes up for in corners. My 02 OB couldn't hold a match to this thing in the handeling dept. The impreza isn't as plush and isn't as quiet but in the fun to drive quotent it is hands down the winner. My impreza doesn't have the hill holder either. Heck my impreza has AC, fact. fogs, and an aftermarket CD player and that is it. No PW, PL, cruise or any of that crap. Just the way I like it though...simple and light! Matt
  18. do you have any left? they are for the 05 year right? is paypal an option? Sorry but I didn't have the time to read 9 pages of messages. PM me if you want to. Matt
  19. I am seriously considering buying a Turbo Baja 5 speed. If you have a TB please let yourself be known and tell me about your mileage and if you had any problems or not. I am also interested in hearing from the regular baja owners too. I would like to know what you are getting with yours also. I was thinking about a WRX but when I drove the TB I was instantly sold on it for its more useful powerband but I haven't ruled out a regular baja. Mostly interested in the mileage from the 5 speeds though...automatic is not a consideration for purchase here..... TIA, Matt
  20. The car is sweet! I had the pleasure of meeting WJM a few weekends ago. Heck of a nice guy and a super nice ride too. Also the header he has on sounds pretty cool too when he left the place where I was staying at.... Congrats on the new job too! Matt
  21. Dude nice car. Looks like mine except my OBS is blue but it has the wrx wheels on it too. Too bad you needed the car ASAP...mine is going up for sale in the spring (hopefully) and it would have been less money (enough to make it worth your while to come and get it) Welcome to the sport wagon family... Matt
  22. there was a 4wd 5 speed about a mile from my house about 2 or so weeks ago. It was dented and out of inspection (on a car lot mind you) and he was asking $995 for it. I laughed I said to my wife I might be inclined to give him $99 for it. No crap he dropped the price to $99 and it was gone in 2 days (basically a day before I could get there to buy it) Matt
  23. going to try and leave here at 5am and the mapquest thing says it is 8 hrs. i really don't know if it takes that long or not but I can tell you it is almost exactly 500 miles doorstep to doorstep. I figure it will be about 3 when we get there mostly because of fuel stops traffic and food stops etc. (wife is a slow eater) Matt
