  1. exit 58 of I-85 Econo Lodge the res. says it is next to Ryans steakhouse. Matt
  2. Hey WJM if you see me this Friday 11-26 let yourself be known....i am rolling into Concord hopefully about mid afternoon in my impreza. Real easy to spot...impreza OB with Wrx wheels from PA. Oh and sweet RX too! Matt
  3. ok here is my 2 cents. Don't do it. Look elsewhere. Go on ebay and do a seller search for neautoauction he has a 91 wagon with some rust but is stick and awd and last I looked it was $200 or so. If you think you are going to do a conversion like Josh did you need to do it yourself and you need a shop. Also, a doner car would help a bunch too. Matt
  4. Back in about 1992 my buddy Ed and I took my 79 subaru 4wd wagon after school to this small wooded area in town behind another friends house. Long story short we got the car majorly mud bogged and were stuck badly. The good part was that Ed lived about 4 houses away and had this old 60 something dump truck that we thought we could use to pull the car out. Well it did....but Ed wasn't paying attention to hand signals and pulled the car into a tree with the hatch open mind you. Needless to say I had to get a new hatch for the back of the car and had to make up a BS story for the old man. Oh the good old days.... Matt
  5. the ea-81 on 222 has been there for about a week or so. Funny how it didn't get the windows broken but usually everything else does.... We should plan a group visit to that place.. you, me, hocrest, etc. Matt
  6. I would consider an "R" title wrx but I would want to know some history. I would get a subaru dealer to run the vin and see if there is any history etc. I would also put in the budget a new gear set for the car too. Also, I would look for some leftover evidence of mods to the car too. Just like the guy above me said....if you got the bucks...you could have one heck of a cheap fast ride. Matt <---prowling ebay for hurt wrx's (preferably a 5sp wagon)
  7. Sounds like a good idea to me....and since we would be in E-town could we swing by my boss's house and rough him up too. Seriously though...PM me some info. on the guy I might be able to see if my boss knows this person etc. I think he knows everyone in E-town Sydfloyd44: PM me I want to ask you something unrelated to this guys post. Matt
  8. I'm close to e-town too. Drop me a line if you need some help. Matt
  9. If you turn one front wheel and a back one turns (while on a lift) then you have AWD. If you want to keep your legacy running good doing burnouts is not going to do you anything (quit while you are ahead). This also proves that your car is infact AWD and that it is working good too. My ex-wife had a 2wd legacy once...and I could lay wheel with it till they were bald but like I said you must have AWD. I put a vote down for a bad wheel bearing. Make sure the rear diff has oil in it and that the tires are close to being the same with the correct pressure in them. Matt
  10. If it is out at the guy in Deer Lake then you will be paying a lot more than the quoted 4K in the post above mine....Nice guy out there but his prices are a little steep for me.... Otherwise I think it sounds like a 5-6K car in general. If you are looking for a 5 speed there is a 96 outside of lancaster that is white and has the 2.2 in it (better motor than the one you are looking at) Matt
  11. ok I've seen 2 refrences to a 96 motor...what about a 2.2 from a 92 legacy for example....will it work??? whats Fat Tire too??? Matt
  12. what did you do for the computer? are you using the 2.2 computer or the 2.5 comp? wireing? details details details...... Matt
  13. it really thumps for what it is....(the bazooka) but my main thing is the car is a little loud for long term driving and I would like to quiet it down a little. I know Dynamat is expensive but I really don't know what else to do though. Undercoating/bedliner sounds like a good idea but is it going to do the job though??? Matt
  14. In my impreza I have an older clarion cd player (from back in the day when things weren't so cluttered to use), 2 coustic 6.5's (rear), 2 blaupunkt 6.5's (front), and an 8" self amplified bazooka in the cargo area. Also in the dash opening I have a cobra 19+ CB that has been modified to put out 25 dead key and swing to 35 watts. Overall the system in the car is totally old technology (except the 2 sets of 6.5's) it sounds really great for my driving and my tastes in music (believe it or not I listen to a lot of "oldies" stations) Next up for the impreza (time/money permitting)...DYNAMAT!!! Forester is stock 6 disk with add on tweeters and factory sub. Sounds really good for what it is..... Matt
  15. Your in NC so this should be easy.....Moonshine!!!!! Matt
  16. totally agree with OB 97.....look at a TS and see what you think. I also believe that a 2-3yr old car with 100k says it was highway driven....in my mind that is better than a car that has 15K of stop and go downtown Boston type of driving... Smoke smell can be cleaned out (detailed) so that is something I wouldn't worry about... 9900 for a car with 100k is too much in my opinion....if you are willing to drive a little I know I could find you something similar arond here for the same money or a little more (with a lot less miles though). Matt
  17. In the end though....will it still be the 2.3 turbo in it or are you going to go up to a 5.0? You also said you are putting in an 8.8 so i assume you are scrapping the IRS setup of the Merkur? What tranny are you using....my Merkur was an automatic (not very well known for longevity) but was a blast to drive....it was kind of like a gun... point and shoot and off you go!!!!!! Matt
  18. Ok let me take it back what I said.....I just really hate to see XR's scrapped. It should make a cool ute though. Are the measurements close enough to make it work??? Matt
  19. I'm honestly not sure which makes me more angry...the butchering of the XR or the butchering of the brat. Gotta admit though...the "finished" pic does remind me of one of those aussie "utes" that they sell down there (ford falcon) Matt <---former XR4Ti owner (god I miss that car....)
  20. Great purchase! Good luck on the conversion too. There is a bunch of great info i got when I was going to do mine. The only thing I have to say about starting with an aircooled vanagon is that you also have to "plumb" in a heater core too. I'm sure this is no biggie for you as you are going to have to run water pipes too. Also remember....vanagon diesels are watercooled too so they are great to rob parts from. Have fun and take lots of pics....we want to see! Matt
  21. Might be interested....need to make a trip to Concord to see stepkid in dec. LMK, Matt
  22. this isn't going to help you much but I had the same thing in my 02 outback. I had the clutch replaced because it shuddered mostly but it still creaked too. Anyhow the problem didn't go away and it also had the looseness that you describe (I thought it made the car a little hard to drive smoothly in my opinion). In the end you are probly wondering what I did right???? I traded it. I didn't trade it because of the small issues but for other reasons. I know this isn't necessarly the help you wanted but I know what you are talking about and have been there too...so you are not alone. Matt
  23. follow bottem rad. hose to find t-stat housing. There is a seal on it (O-ring) You fill it through the top hose (with it off the rad.). And finally make sure you buy the t-stat at the dealer (better quality) did I get them all???? Matt PS there is an article on here somewhere about the proper way to fill the cooling system...
