  1. You need to love it more. Maybe a nice night in the garage, just the two of you. Although that usually ends in me hitting my car and screaming obscenities at it... But in reality, I hope you can figure out the problem. The more older subarus on the road, the better.
  2. Mine is a single row and it has been cooling alright thus far. For fans I mounted two 10" electric ones in the front and ditched the AC condenser. Seems to work pretty good, I just didn't have room to mount the antifreeze overflow tank where it normally goes on the side of the fans.
  3. Update, The brat is running great. Made its first real trip since being licensed up to the hot springs (60 miles round trip) and everything ran great. Since putting the lift in, i get some weird wobble when i put on the brakes at higher speeds, not always, just randomly, might need an alignment. I also have lights up on top behind the roof that are nice for night time wheelin. Got to test the 4wd at the hot springs but no pics, hopefully I can go for a sunday drive tomorrow and get some good pics.
  4. I borrowed a buddies hoist. He is now using his though. Yeah the lift is in but its giving me grief, the struts are rubbing inside the towers so I have to trim some metal, and then make a strut brace for support. I saw your car all primer painted up on 6th west and almost 8th south. Let me know if you need help on your swap. Its still fairly fresh on my mind right now.

  5. I like pictures. 2" front lift done yesterday. it cost me only like $5 for the hardware lights on the bumper to see the sides of the road better. and the mesh grill. OH and finally license plates on it so its legal, even though I'm ordering my personalized ham radio ones tomorrow hopefully. switch panel for offroad lights, etc. more to be added later.
  6. I had to do some altering to get it to fit right as well as a little bashing of metal inside the strut tower of the brat (maybe other EA81's are different in that matter) but its in!! The back of mine was already higher so the 2" in the front levels it out and looks good. Even with the 22* it still looks like it has negative chamber but i might just be seeing things. Pictures will be posted to my build thread later.
  7. I ma going with this design because then instead of just little 1" squares on the top hats, i get two 1" bars along the sides of the top hats. It might not make a huge difference, but it makes me feel like its more secure. I also happened to have this 2x3 tubing lying around. i'm going to drill the holes today and hopefully install it tomorrow. My camping trip got canceled so I got time to experiment for others benefit. This is using the angle that one eye gave me with a 22* offset. I also had grade 8 3/8" bolts lying around thats why the top hole is 3/8, while the lower is 7/16" to accomodate the top hat bolts. I am really hoping this works out.
  8. Hopefully I will have it all installed by this friday for a lil camping trip and I will get some pictures of it.
  9. There have been a few of these posts... But to be more helpful, I'm getting a 2" lift made this week and have some extra metal. If you want I can have some made for you also. Very simple setup, blocks in the front with holes drilled 3/4" difference (20* offset for camber correction) at least I think it was 3/4, I don't have my cad drawings in front of me right now. Im going to get the rear brackets figured out sometime soon.
  10. Ok so now that my brat's engine swap is done (enough to use as a daily driver at least) I can work on the boss' car. 1998 Impreza OBS, For a while the CEL has come and gone randomly. It has been checked and always comes back saying my cat is bad and knock sensor is bad. I have yet to do anything to fix either because the CEL would turn off for awhile before randomly turning back on. I am assuming the best course of action is to replace the knock sensor (I really don't want to spend $80 on something so small) and see if that fixes the CEL as well as my other problem. That other problem being the OBS is gutless on hills now. I used to be able to cruise up hills on the freeway doing 80 the whole way, now when I am in 5th and hit an incline I bog down REAL fast and have to downshift to prevent semi's from passing me Think maybe the new knock sensor will somehow help that? Or possibly are my cat's clogged and I just need to pull them off and hollow them out? (I don;t have to do emissions because of where this car is registered ) This is my wifes daily driver and our roud trip car and getting anywhere fun in utah requires driving up hills. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    geared hubs?

That's what I'm made of! Wait, or is it thats what I'm lacking...? One of the other. Cool idea on the hubs, It's always exciting to see the gears turning on ideas around here (get it? gears turning. geared hub thread, I need to go to bed...)
  12. Sorry for no replies on the thread. I was vacationing in Zion Nat'l Park for my 2 year anniversary. So I have the fans hooked up just as they were before pretty much. The sensor in the radiator is still hooked up right, I guess the car is staying cool enough. The only real driving it gets is about 1 mile to work and back round trip, and my random 40 miles on the freeway to get my emissions ticket (required for an engine swap). I guess driving on the freeway had enough air flow to keep it cool. I haven't wired up the water temp gauge because I don't know what wire its supposed to go to I know, should have done it before but I was REALLY running out of time. If anyone knows of what wire the water temp gauge is on EA81's I would really like to know. Hopefully Safety test gets done... wednesday maybe? Install the swaybar for the test and a "new" axle that I got from Martimus along with the sway bar clamps. Just using them to get through safety then the bar is coming back off. Anywho, once its registered, looks for some dirt pics
  13. IT PASSED EMISSIONS !!!!! I had to take it to the state emissions office and have them give me a certificate to allow for the engine swap and whatnot because obviously its not going to be the same as a carb'd EA81. Also it toks its first real trip on the freeway, held 75 just fine with power to pass other cars. I am slightly concerned with my fans not turning on. I think I might just make a switch directly to the battery to turn the fans on and off when I want.
  14. On my brat I just used the donor car exhaust. At least until about 2 feet past the last cat, then I started clamping and welding bends from autozone to get it up into the muffler place. Someday when I have money I will get a good exhaust system made.
  15. Finally am using the brat for daily driving!! It made it to work this morning just fine with only one slight problem. When I turn sharp it feels like the car automatically applies brakes... Slightly odd and confusing. I just recently rebuilt one caliper and bled all the brakes so I don't know what could cause this other than maybe axle problems. Any ideas?
  16. I have two 10 inch versions of those fans and they push A LOT more air than the stock fans. I got one of mine on ebay for $25 shipped, and the other one for $5 at a junkyard You can reverse the blades so it will push or pull air for your needs. Very easy to install as well.
  17. I got a set of the washer and conical washer in my garage. I also am pretty sure my local junkyard has lots to be taken that I can go snag on the weekends.
  18. I dunno if ninefourteener got it finished, I did find out that the thread pitch for the toyota these wheels cam from is 12x1.5. So I would either have to get all new studs or I found some the seat properly from autozone. Hopefully I can find some money to get new tires since all I have right now is 15" wheels, no rubber.
  19. Here are the little exhaust dealios that insert into the gap. and then the oil filler tube, (the cap is somewhere in the bed of the brat I know. I don't know a price for these things. Hopefully they could all fit in a priority box. how bout $20 for everything plus whatever shipping is?
  20. Yes that is my engine for sale on KSL. I do not know if the heads will fit, I think someone has a thread about it somewhere on here if you search around. I have someone who might want to buy the whole thing for $50 but im not holding out, if you want the heads then by all means take the engine for the heads.

  21. I got a bunch of EA81 stuff including some exhaust stuff. I still have the headers and bolts and motor mounts. Let me know if you want them.
  22. So im just working on random stuff here and there to get it daily driveable. I did pick up some BFG snow tires for the front for $20 for the pair. I just made a new grill to see how I like it. got some free steel mesh and will paint it later to looke better but I wanted some opinions. just imagine it painted red, or black. Because eventually the car will be black with a red strip down each side.
  23. If in case the thermite becomes option A, please take pictures and videos
  24. give me a call this weekend and I can help you out. i got a few diagrams and stuff for when I make my 2" lift also. We can experiment with yours and then do mine
  25. The shaft having a slight in and out play is normal but if the cups can slide away from the trans that on the other hand isn't. I concur with the check the roll pins, they can be little buggers to get in sometimes.
