They arent huge... but I can tell they are wider, Ill get pics up when I get them mounted, hopefully sandblasting at GDs here soon.

adding air conditioning

Ive been pondering adding A/C to Ned... but itll probably be awhile. -
Ive seen 4-5 LGT with OB front bumpers... what an awesome look!

XT Dash/Interior into a Loyale wagon?
92_rugby_subie replied to xbeerd's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Im putting XT6 seats in Ned when I find some... and have the extra $$ so probably after WCSS. I guess 3 bolts line up, the 4th needs to be fabbed if youre really OCD about it. -
Craigslist. They arent usual sizing, but the tread appears real deep, so I figure by the time I need new tires again, Ill just sell my wheels and upgrade to the 5 lug swap since the 5 lug is in the future, just not sure when.

Been awhile since I updated... been working a lot Have a few things coming, unfortunately no pics :/ but Ill work on it as ACTUAL progress commences (also been in the garage on an EJ22 reseal, so poor Ned isnt getting too much attention) Before WCSS I hope to have my Jackmans painted... Not sure if I wanna plastidip, spray paint, or save money and powdercoat... Its questionable, just comes down to savings and time... less than a month! Fridays purchase: 205/60/13 tires (I like wider tires) Recently: Got new Maxima alternator, need to go to GDs and have him install it (tried once, and either I failed, or the alternator failed, either way, alternator died) New subwoofer (Alpine E12) which is having issues with my wiring that worked before New battery, which fried the stereo deck somehow, so I put in a new deck. Considering another EA82 to drop in Ned for awhile... the HG leak has me worried about overheating when its warm outside... No coolant leaks, but I am still not trusting not to fry soon. Maybe just a coolant flush? Gonna powerwash the engine bay shortly will take pics.

Suspension woes, still!
92_rugby_subie replied to 92_rugby_subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Im completely stock to my knowledge. 1986 GL sedan. D/R 5 speed 4X4. 183K miles. Stock 13" steel wheels on 175/70/13 tires (mismatched, like I said, broke) Stock height. Want to lower (not to the ground but like Numbchux did to his EA82 wagon) My ball joints seemed good when I did the other work, but I didnt change them... could these be a cause? Maybe an overhaul is needed: New bushings, wheel bearings (apparently camber and toe-in being screwed up makes them wear faster?), Balljoints, Struts, Springs etc... If its strut/spring related, then I hope to just get lowering springs on Honda suspension or coilovers and move on... -

Its camber then. But they said it was toe-in... Maybe thats why its so bad? Nope, they asked if I had done anything recently and I said I had replaced wheel bearings and tie rods and tie rod ends and they said they looked done correctly... They are just as perplexed it seems... the one said that these old Subarus come in with this issue constantly, but mine seems worse and he doesnt see anything jumping out that explains that, but it might just be something I have to make an adapter to fix because they cant do any "custom" work to fix the problem, just make the proper adjustments with the equipment and specs they have. -
Weber Fuel Economy Question
92_rugby_subie replied to benjamachine's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
GD probably could tune a weber while changing the transmission on a mercedes But hes great at it... the Weber 32/36 DGEV on my 86 GL feels so much faster than the SPFI I had on my 92 Loyale... and I get about 30mpg highway... kinda cruddy in town, Id say about 22, less if I mash the accelerator.... and I KNOW its running rich because I can smell the gas and watch it drop out the exhaust at idle... but that doesnt affect me, so I havent had it changed by GD. I love the weber... and the way I drive... makes my "I hate the Toyota Prius" message that much more clear. -
Im having a hard time with Ned... The alignment is off, for the 3rd time in 6 months... and Im wearing thin in the pocketbook at 60 bucks per alignment... Im not offroading or hitting speedbumps or curbs... just daily driving. The wheels toe-in pretty bad.. wearing the outside edge. The alignment shop aligns it "as best they can", tightens all the bolts/parts and sends me on my way. Now, tires are shot again. Im completely stock suspension wise... I want to lower it, which I imagine will fix the toe-in slightly if lifting the vehicle makes it worse... but I want to get things fixed before I lower it... Could this be strut/spring related (which would get swapped out for the Honda lowering suspension)?

This. I sat down and discussed with Carr Subaru buying a BRZ... and Id still be here.... Id join meets still... whether some members liked me or not -
Got the Fel-pro gaskets Intake/Exhaust gaskets I also get paid again tomorrow, So Ill be buying more parts, probably the timing belt/water pump kit and some loctite so that I can get some real progress on the car done. Will also get the front main from Subaru so I can get the front of the engine done! Pics when/while that goes on.

Day two. Got a pressure washer, air compressor, air impact tools and engine stand from Stubies_Subie (THANKS! ) and got to work cleaning up the parts and stuff. Engine bay before (Id say it was leaking some oil) And the engine itself (yupp, rear main is leaking, but its the metal plate so I dont need to spend $40 on a new one ) After some washing: Engine didnt get as clean as I had hoped, but I made a mess of the driveway so I think its better than nothing at this point Engine bay came out great in my opinion Heres the valve cover, gonna paint them like I did on my old EA81 so I can watch for leaks and itll look cool (AGAIN, IMHO it will)

Day One. With the help of Carlos and Nick, we brought the motor out with no "real" issues and with no engine hoist. The bolts to take a motor out were all finger tight... Engine-Transmission, Exhaust bolts, Crossmember bolts. But we got it out. Had a good long laugh at how lifted the Legacy looked And then went to bed.
-
So, my sister bought this Legacy for $700 with the plan to drive it around and give this to my Dad when he returned from California (since he gave me my Loyale and hasnt had a car since). But unfortunately, it leaked a bit of oil, and on a road-trip to Greatwolf Lodge we lost 4-5 quarts of oil, basically did an oil change haha. So between that, and a flat tire, the car has been parked since February... Until now! The plan to reseal the motor and let it be driven again started when I got a job and had the income to do it To be done: Front main seal Oil pan reseal (loctite) Oil pump reseal (loctite) Timing belt/water pump (AISIN) Clutch Crank seals Water pump by-pass hose Valve cover gaskets and grommets (Fel-Pro) Replace oil separator plate with metal one Intake/Exhaust gaskets Basically the works. Since Im doing this with my own two hands and not under the supervision of GeneralDisorder the Great (although hes being pestered by my questions via text/phone call) I just thought Id show off what I have been doing and keep everyone updated... This is the PICTURE INCOMING warning, as I have been taking lots of pics.

Can you use a cold air intake on a Weber? Ive had a few people say its possible on a carb'd engine, but then again I havent really seen many people doing it...? *I realize most of the time, a CAI doesnt do a lot for you and is a waste of money, but if you got one for free, why not?
-
Talk to GeneralDisorder, hes in your area and hes a Subaru genius... To me sounds like the radiator is clogged... Could be that your radiator is the black hole to another galaxy as well, but I doubt it :-p Edit: Have you opened the cap to see if its still full and just clogged? Also, are your carpets wet (leaky heater core) Check your oil just in case the coolant is mixing somewhere.
