  1. So its all pooling on the back of the motor, and Im sure the carb gasket is a problem, Im looking into how to replace those but for the time being, they werent leaking THAT bad. However, there is a ton of coolant on the back of the motor and this hose seems to be the culprit... What is it? I wasnt aware that it carried fluid last time I was shown which hoses to replace (I thought it was an air line for the PCV system) Its the hose COATED in dirt, wetness and just all around "this sucks" Should I get it replaced with an OEM part or is generic hose okay? It looks like its purpose bent so Im thinking OEM with the bends already in it would be wise. Maybe a different hose clamp too as that just looks like it doesnt hold anything well...
  2. Yupp perfectly fine due to the non - interference motor. With the covers off it takes less than 30 minutes to change a timing belt so I just keep a spare.
  3. I planned to replace the hoses when the new motor was put together but I may have to just replace them this weekend. That under the carb gasket is definitely done for too
  4. Well, no smoke occurred on the way to my Subaru meet tonight... however headed home I dropped gears from 4th to 3rd and shifted at about 4.5K after I made the hill... pulled into the driveway, back into my spot and the hood errupts in steam... open it up... I have coolant under the carb, back of the passenger side head etc etc etc. Yupp, time to baby Ned and shift nicely until the other block is built.
  5. Just went out and checked the oil... still golden brown (about 60 miles on the oil change) The puddles werent any bigger than they were last night so I started him up and let him run through two fan cycles.... Nothing leaked... I mean under the carb smoked a little but I know those gaskets have been leaking a bit... not as much as was on the ground.... So Im thoroughly perplexed. Guess its time to devote the weekends to the other motor... I should be able to assemble it in a weekend and then drop it in... Just means Ned will have to be down for a few weekends since some of the parts are off his current motor (intake and carb) On a side note: Using OEM gaskets... which manual do I use for the torque pounds and procedure... and do I overtorque each step by a few pounds or just the last step by a few pounds? --- Im hoping to not have to retorque.
  6. What does that mean? Sorry, Ive never heard that term before...
  7. Just noticed that last picture doesnt exactly show anything... I will also note my DS headgasket has been blown for the last 40k+ miles... it just hasnt done anything except leak oil externally... and I think a tiny bit of fluid is mixing as the coolant is disappearing somehow... but now there it is.. all running down the parking lot.
  8. Okay, obviously this is bad... Very bad... But I want to know what happened.... I just filled the radiator today at work, let it sit about 20 mins and it had bubbled down a bit, so I topped it up and started it... dropped down quite a bit, so I shut it off, topped it up again and closed the cap, started it and let it run for about 20 mins (figured any extra would go into the overflow) no leaks on the garage floor at work... come home (about 15 miles) and park the car, not smoking or anything. Lock the car, go inside, come outside about 8 hours later to this: The fluid is green... So I open the hood (and the stupid latch came off the body of the car... thats obnoxious.... I poke my head around... little bit of fluid on the lower radiator hose, but not a ton... No coolant surrounding the water pump so doubt that blew up... however on the back passenger side of the engine theres coolant... and underneath the engine (on the engine) there is coolant... what gives? The other EA82 isnt ready to drop in yet... so I was hoping Ned would still last a bit longer... maybe a month... this might not be possible now... Atop the engine looking down: Passenger rear of motor: Crappy picture, but under the motor:
  9. Well, finally just held the phone camera. Did a few 0-60 pulls and my speedometer was fine, didnt stick at all so I circled back and got in position. Im slightly uphill at this spot because the flat spot was kinda dangerous to pull onto from 0... even accelerating quickly, its still EA82fast...other car slow. AND OF COURSE MY SPEEDO STUCK Link -- note it is on private where you must click the link to get to it (dont want Honda kids spamming it) -- Last edit: "Mods" -- changes from stock 197K miles (on the gauge.... ???,??? on the motor -- blown DS headgasket) Weber 32/36 DGEV 2.5" glasspack Cut emissions 205/60/15 Firestone tires on 15" Allied Armament wheels Fat kid behind the wheel But I at least got the camera pretty steady for shifting, steering and holding a camera *do not attempt this at home, driving with a cell phone in hand is extremely stupid and should not be mimicked. Just noticed the above RX/Leone video... I hadnt thought to do it in 4LO... bet that would speed it up quite a bit... cuz I wouldnt chirp the wheels... but my clutch slipped too, so meh, its a 28 year old car...
  10. So. In all seriousness... My car hates me. I tried 5 different videos tonight... and tonight of all nights the speedometer needle is sticking around 50-55 and then jumps up to 65... So I maybe able to show you what 0-65 looks like but the speedometer is all jacked... Will try this again tomorrow.... I should add, tonight I got a fresh oil change and new speakers.... So Ill be jammin out hardcore.
  11. Im working on my video. Gotta get to the road I used on a non-busy time with someone willing to video tape it. It depends on where you shift as well... I noticed the car seemed quicker when shifting around 4.5k rather than over 5k
  12. Im sure someone has one if you post in the wanted section. I have one set off an 86 GL but I believe they are slightly different than your Loyale so youd have to replace both or just find the one left side that you need. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1987-94-SUBARU-LOYALE-FRONT-CORNER-LIGHT-O-E-M-L-H-/390618932381?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5af2b3e49d&vxp=mtr#ht_475wt_918 Though geez thats expensive haha! Let me know via PM or something and I can get mine off to you for less than that.
  13. Well Neds may be skewed... Hes got 197.5K on him. Weber 32/36 and a glasspack... I think thats it as far as "performance" upgrades... With my fat arse behind the wheel I got between 11 and 12 seconds on the stop watch. However Im thinking Ill just video tape it... I did a few different pulls on pretty flat land... My speedometer skips a bit at 55 so I had to estimate.. video within the next few days. I was also fully warmed up (fans ran their cycle) and over 1/2 tank of fuel.
  14. Been awhile since Ive posted much done to Ned... Hes just been racking up the miles getting me from Point A to Point B. Now sitting at just over 197K (getting close to the 200 mark! -- at least on the odometer) I love working Saturdays at my job... I get to pull Ned into the warm garage... Start with this: and after my arm hurts like hell (one polish buff and then one wax buff) I get this: Could finally see myself in the paint... and it was quite soft. Im gonna order a clay bar kit, and a better orbital because the one we were gonna use just wasnt gonna do what we needed it to (works great on new paint, but needing to take 28 years out of the paint wasnt in its job description) Been doing a little bit of work on my 7th Subaru (if you count parts cars, otherwise shes number 6) Shes got some cool upgrades.... but needs more supporting mods. 319whp and 362 wtq with a Cold Air Intake, Blouch 2.5 dominator turbo (ball bearing), Turboxs intercooler, tein coilovers, xxr530 18X8.75, invidia catless downpipe, invidia N1 exhaust. I need to get the timing belt water pump done, ID1000 injectors, Perrin EBCS, DW300 fuel pump, catless uppipe and a mishimoto radiator in there soon.. my hope is for 365whp and 400wtq. But we will see. Visually I want a carbon fibre trunk with lip, rear diffuser, seibon cf hood (with bigger scoop) and possibly the roof wrapped. Ned will not be ignored though. After taxes Im putting an EJ22 in him... Might have to wait actually until Im daily driving the Rex (she is unnamed thus far) so Ned can be put under the knife for awhile without making work difficult
  15. You guys are REALLY making me think I should do a 0-60. I swear Im not that slow haha. Maybe time just moves super fast :/
  16. Ive had a few people mention using gasket paper... Is there a specific brand thats better than others? I put Ned through a ton of abuse daily... At least until the WRX is in the picture... then Ned goes under the knife for an EJ swap in of which my carb gasket wont mean much... but Id say I need another 6 months of abuse. I have pictures of the leakage Ill try to post up very shortly
  17. Yea noo... I dont wanna break him... more than he already is... Not at least til Im EJ'd and lifted
  18. Where do I get the individual gaskets for my Weber 32/36 DGEV for my EA82 intake? Mine started leaking... and causing a smokey mess under the hood I heard it was okay to use Loctite 518/Anaerobic Sealant instead of them or use them and coat them in ultra grey RTV? Obviously the Anaerobic sealant would be easier to come by... but Ive only seen it used once about a year ago and have no idea what the long term hold-up on it is...
  19. Bump Bump Bump. Anyone got a write-up for the custom fit? Or pictures of a larger set-up than the stock 4" or 5-1/4" size?
  20. The question becomes where to get those screws and the caps... wonder if I should ask the soobie dealer or if I should try the hardware store
  21. Very helpful! Thanks a bunch! Was yours factory installed or did you drill the trunk and put the studs/screws in yourself?
  22. I started my Monday meets again. All Subarus welcome.
